Thursday morning, 1AM

Thursday morning, 1AM. I had a seizure.

The days after having a seizure are always rather depressing. I hide it well, but my brain is in turmoil.  I’m confused and frustrated and pissed off.  Eight years ago I was told that my seizures would likely stop on their own in my early 20s.  I was starting to think that I would be confident getting my drivers license back.  Be confident travelling on my own. Maybe someday not be dependent on my medication. Not be nervous about the difficulties Denis and I might experience when we try to start a family.

Half of my tongue is swollen and I sound like a moron when I talk.  Yesterday my head hurt too much to do, well, anything.  Seizures suck.  I’m lucky to have someone who takes care of me and knows what to do when it happens.

Den commented once that he would be interested in experiencing a seizure so he could understand what it feels like for me. As much as I appreciate what he meant, I wouldn’t wish seizures on anyone.  There’s not much to feel except really shitty afterwards.

Valentines Day Baking!

Valentines Day is quickly approaching, and being the only unattached blonde here, I am just figuring out what I’m doing without my significant other (I’m watching Felicity right now, and it is SO sad…just thought I’d add that in here).  This year our three aunts are coming up to Ottawa, so that I can catch a ride with them back to the L-dot.  They are coming up on Friday, and we’re hanging out here skating (crossing my fingers that it’s cold enough!), winterluding and visiting until Saturday.  Saturday we’re going to a Citizenship party, because a certain Aussie we know is now a Canadian citizen!  On Sunday we’re heading up to Montreal to visit my aunts dancing friend who is in second year at Concordia, and from there we go home, and I am home for a whole week! I definitely can’t wait :)   So that is my Valentines weekend, what is everyone else planning on doing?

Tomorrow my cheerleading team is doing a bake sale with the AOIIs, and in true Valentines Day fashion, I made cherry chip cupcakes, with pink and red icing, and red hearts on the tops! Here are some pictures of my masterpieces!

Micaela, Kent, Matt, and Laura take on Calgary.

As you will know if you’ve been paying attention, Kent and I just got back from a ten day vacation to visit Leah and Tim in Calgary. We were joined by our friends Matt and Laura, and had a fabulous time. Here’s some photographic evidence of that:

We spent the first half of the trip searching out a Tim Hortons – any good Canadian will recognize it in this picture! We are addicts.

Matt, Laura, Leah, me, and Kent out for some spicy Thai food in Banff.

Our hotel had a couple of sweet hot tubs that dyed that bathing suit a strange tan colour. I don’t even want to think about what the chemicals did to my skin.

It was so nice out that we ate lunch outside and did a little suntanning.

Anyone who’s been to Lake Louise will recognize this infamous photo op.

Our last day on the slopes was spent at Sunshine.

Our boys spent a lot of time cooking for us.

And we all spent a lot of time drinking wine.

The last couple days were spent meeting up with a LOT of family – here is the group with our cousin Chris and our friend Natalie!

Our Aunt gave me and Leah the coolest spices ever that she got from India.

Our lovely hosts.

Leah was so sad to see us go that she started to act a little strangely…

All in all it was a great trip and I would travel with these travel buddies anytime.

All of my credit and appreciation goes to Laura for the photos and for being the official photographer of the trip.

Pursescapades

Purse + Escapade = Pursecapades

I’m really not a very girly girl. I only wear makeup if I’m going out, I never wear high heels and I am not an accessory girl.  I’ve had few purses in my life, most of which I ‘borrowed’ from my sisters years after they stopped using them.   I’ve always really wanted a purse that I loved but just never found the one.  And I finally got fed up of putting my wallet in other people’s purses while shopping and using my pocket as a purse.

These are a few of the purses I used in the past:

purses

(there are a few missing from the collection, mostly my fave- a white purse with hearts on it, super cute and very “katelyn”)

Top left: Burton make up bag, that I loved so much had to be used as a purse.  Pink purse that was used a few years back.  Gravis purse ‘borrowed’ from Erica, Volcom purse given to me by my Mother in law. Black Gap purse ‘borrowed’ from Erica and used most recently.

Enter my best friend Liz and her purse obsession.  We went to the mall on Saturday and went to basically every store we could think of that would have purses and still came up empty handed.  I wanted a black purse that was bigger then my other purses I had used, and I wanted it to be sort of slouchy.  Apparently that kind of purse was hard to come across.  Then we went to Winners and I died and went to purse heaven.  Whenever I go into Winners I always walk through the purse section, but never take the time to actually look at the purses.  Not this time. There was a point on Saturday that I had 4 purses on my arms to decide which I would like the best, and to keep my hold on them in case someone else decided one of those were the one.  And as it turned out none of those were the the one for me, because I ended up choosing one that I pointed out to Liz but decided it was too big, kind of like a duffel bag.  After I took all the stuffing out, and looked at myself in the mirror, modeling it,  I decided it was the one!

It’s not black, it’s not slouchy, but I love it.

It’s green and brown, two of my favourite colours (and totally matches my duvet cover, which is a bit weird).  I’m so excited to have a purse that can hold everything I need and not have to squeeze it all in.  The purse is a Mat and Nat, which is pretty funny because Erica and Micaela both have Mat and Nat purses, and Lauren just bought a Mat and Nat wallet last week. Total coincidence.

What do you think?

Ps. this is my 3rd post in a row, sisters get writing!

Update??

Sorry for the lack of updates this week. The fiveblondes are all just so busy this week.

Erica is getting her invitations ready to send out, be ready for a post about that later. Also D-Dawg and Erica head to marriage prep this weekend, so hopefully we get to hear all about that!

Micaela is away visiting Leah in Calgary, which you saw a bit of in their V-log. I’m sure she will have lots to post after she gets back.

I was busy at work getting hired on! Woo hoo for me.  And busy at play practice 3 nights a week!

Leah is in Calgary hosting her wonderful guests, and working like a banshee.

And little Lauren is in the thick of University writing midterms and getting excited for reading week when she comes back home to us!!

Keep checking for updates! Thanks for reading.

Trip Planning

January and February seem to be the month for trips this year.  Two co-workers of mine are in Chile (for work), Mic & Kent are in Calgary, Laura & Matt are in Calgary and Scott and I are planning a trip.  finally.

Scott and I have not gone away since our honeymoon to Costa Rica last November (2007) and are in desperate need of a trip.  As many of you know we are farmers, Scott loves farming and he wanted to be a farmer since he was 3.  Scott really wants to go to the National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville, Kentucky in early February, so we decided to make it into a trip!  I’m getting really excited for it and started planning details last night.

We are planning on driving there Feb 11, and staying in Louisville until the 15th! Which means we are away for Valentines Day, how romantic… lol.  We plan to go to the show for 2 days (apparently it’s a fairly large show), go to Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby Museum, and of course I want to go shopping and go to the Science Centre!  It’s probably not the kind of trip many of you would be interested to go on but I think it’s going to be a great time.  I’m also excited to stay in a hotel, I love staying in hotels and we booked a pretty nice one in downtown Louisville.

Does anyone know of anything else that we could do in Louisville? Any great places to eat?

and since I am incapable of posting without a picture here are 2 pictures of farming. One taken at our barn during harvest and the other taken at my work during silage harvest.
