Olympics!

in baseball

As I’m sure all of you are aware, the Olympics in Beijing begin tomorrow and run from August 8 -24. I love when the Olympics are on because there’s always something to watch on tv and lots of people to cheer for. There are so many sports I don’t think I could pick my favourite, but I always love watching the gymnastics, swimming, rowing, softball, baseball and triathlon events. (And for Winter games the whole family are big skiing and snowboarding fans. Did you know the winter Olympics will be held in Canada in 2010? Too bad Vancouver is across the country from us, but close to Leah, although hopefully she won’t be there then.. hint hint.)

And now for the point of this blog. I found a blog written by a Dutch (Canadian) pitcher on the Dutch Olympic team. “Canadutch Olympic baseball experience 2008” His name is Leon and he is writing about his experience at the Olympics! It’s a great idea for a blog, and makes me want to cheer them on so I can feel like I’m part of the action, reading about his games and his experience at the Olympics. They were training in Korea for a while before the games and now have arrived in Beijing, living in the huge Olympic village.

And now time for my random story. My mom’s cousin is dating a man who’s son is carrying the Canadian flag in the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics!  Adam Van Koeverden (a strong Dutch name, I might add) is a kayaker going for the gold! We’ll be following the Canadian Olympic hopefuls on cbc.ca

Who will you be cheering for?

French Silk Pie- but they don’t have those anymore… boo
Brownie Eruption (or something like) that is good because it masks the vanilla ice cream (not a big vanilla fan)

Cool!!! Hi Leon!

Wierd fact about Adam Van Koeverdan – his father is Tim’s (my boyfriend) professor! Or was, I should say.

Me and Tim’s professors have way too much in common. Hello Professor Simon Day, welcome to my family.

On a funnier note, the comedy website 236.com had a great feature/recap on The Olympics: http://www.236.com/news/2008/08/06/another_desperate_attempt_to_m_8097.php
