I wanted to help spread the word about the Canadian Blog Awards. Last year mom and I separately discovered the awards webpage on the same day, which also happened to be the day after the nominations closed. Don’t you hate it when that happens?
Anyway, if you’re a Canadian blogger you should definitely hop on over there and take a look. There are 27 (yes, 27!) catagories – check out their criteria right here. I’ve started to nominate some of my favorite blogs already! Nominations close on the 22 of November and there are 2 rounds of voting after that. What are you waiting for? Get nominating!
PS: I’m really bad at keeping up with my Twitter fans. Are you following me and I’m not following back? Tweet me or let me know in the comments! @ericablonde
PPS. And because this post isn’t long enough yet and I can’t stop adding to it, go here and comment for a cause, and then go here and laugh your butt off. And sometimes be grossed out. Either way, it’s a hilarious new site about crafts *evil grin*
Thanks for linking! I can use all the comments I can get–5 cents per comment to help kids with cancer!

I’m sorry but a Blog award that isn’t even on a self hosted site isn’t very credible. I’ve never been a big fan of awards anywyas!

Stealthnerd – you’re welcome! I can’t believe you’re going to be dancin’ for 46 HOURS!
Lisa – you are most welcome
Bill – Hey, I never said that they were the ‘official’ Canadian blog awards or anything. Like most blog awards, it’s all in good fun. I don’t mind finding new readers through them, not to mention interesting new blogs to read.
Also Lisa – Thanks for nominating us for Best Group Blog
(Thanks to our friend Laura too for the same!)
I found your blog today on stumble upon….. its awesome, i think your stories are great and really interesting…. I especially love the 4-H one because my best friend from Iowa is also in that program, she shows cats and not pigs……
Too much of a popularity contest and not enough about quality blogs. I stopped bothering when they overlooked a lot of great real blogs to pick Rick Mercer as best humour blog. I doubt he even looks at that blog. Kind of made the whole thing meaningless to me.

I agree Erica, you can get good publicity from them, BUT you usually have to be a pretty well read blog to begin with. I think that handing out awards is kinda BS, I don’t write for popularity, and the value of a blog isn’t any greater for having won, or even be nominated for, an award. I just feel wrong about the whole idea, I don’t want to offend anyone so I’m not going to continue writing.
Hey Erica! I nominated you guys for best group blog too. And thanks for the link to comment for a cause. Bah, just thanks for all the great links!!
haha good luck!

Laura – I didn’t know about that. I agree, disappointing that they would choose that. Perhaps creating categories based on the size of a blog would be more effective – but of course then you would have arguments over qualifications for the categories. I imagine that it is difficult for those running the awards to keep everything fair.
Bill – I completely understand that you have to be well read to begin with to have a good chance of winning and I’m not fooling myself into thinking that we stand a good chance. In the end it will all come down to who can send the most readers to the site to vote for them, just like most blog awards. I can understand that you are uncomfortable with that aspect. Thanks for sharing your views.
fragileheart – thanks hon!
The ‘new readers’ I was referring to were those people who are nominated and / or are nominating others.
I know I’m late to the game, but I love the new banner.
So much better.
