You may not realize it, but it’a a big day in Fiveblondeland. It is our Erica’s birthday – she is 28 years old today! Holy moly, I can’t believe my oldest sister is almost 30. Not to rub it in or anything, Sceri…

Also – I should note that it was Mrs. Kate’s birthday on the 31st of July and her terrible sisters neglected to inform all of you about it. So happy belated birthday Katers, mother of the most beautiful girl in the entire universe. Kate’s birthday used to be my favourite holiday of the entire year as it was the one day that Kate would just let loose, take back one too many tequila shots and let me tell you, this girl is an absolute blast when she is ready to part-ay.

1. I am a hard-core procrastinator. A professional, if you will. Want an example? I’ll tell ya later.

2. After we had been dating a few weeks, the “friend” who set up me and Denis tried to break us up. It didn’t work (obviously) and be the end of the summer she was fired from her job and I was promoted to take her place. Erica FTW!

3. I love my name. First, middle, and last. However, I will be happily changing it when I get married (in three months and five days).

4. I like being called “Er” (pronounced “err”) or “Eri” (pronounced “err-y”). I especially like being called Er or Eri out of the blue from someone aside from a family member. Spontaneous and fun :)

5. I love grey sweaters. I have at least 7.

6. I can be very sarcastic.

7. If it were not for Denis, I would forget to take my medication WAY too much.

8. If I don’t take this medication, I will have seizures.

9. I have not had a seizure in almost 2 years!

10. I have had seizures in very embarrassing places, including a movie theatre in the middle of the film Sweet Home Alabama. Did you know that when a film projector is stopped, it can’t be simply started up again? I may have ruined a lot of dates that night. I’m sure I also freaked a lot of people out.

Before watching mine, you should know that despite being a film major, I feel awkward in front of a camera!  Also, I apologize for the shakiness. I’m blaming it on nerves. I don’t really have anything specific to write about, but I know that my sisters will be happy to get to work/wake up on a Monday morning and see an update, which motivates me to give it a shot! I am quite sad that the weekend is ending, because I know this week is going to bring me some stress. Kent has subletted his apartment in order to live closer to his new job in Stratford as head chef at a super cool restaurant! I am very excited to live with him and have a place that feels like home, instead of living like a nomad between his tiny bachelor and my parent’s house. Anyways, the subletter moves in on THURSDAY, which means I need to get a move on in finding us a wonderful place to rent that is super cheap so we can save up to buy an even more wonderful place in not too long. Which is extremely difficult when you consider my full time job, brownie group, dance group, yoga and pilates classes…. but I do have Tuesday off which may be my only saving grace.

ANYWAYS. This weekend was a wonderful one. I spent all of Saturday with Leah, we got our hair styled, went out for lunch with our aunt Rosie at Kent’s restaurant, and went to see Michael Buble in concert. He was so funny and fun and great and of course an amazing singer. We were among the youngest ones there but that is because we are old souls! ha. And have fabulous taste in music. He brought out the romantic in all of us, heck even Leah and I held hands for a bit. :D After the concert, we trekked through the snow down Richmond in our heels to a bar to see a bunch of old friends. We specifically wanted to see our friend Simon who is visiting from Edmonton, and shower him with love because he is awesome and the funniest guy alive. All in all….. We could not have planned a better girly day! Being with Leah always makes me feel good about life. I think that we bring out the best in each other – just like the right colour highlights bring out the best colour in your face. Then today, as every Sunday, I spent the day with Kent, and the evening with my sisters Erica and Katelyn, and the best yoga teacher in the world (in my totally unbiased opinion), my cousin Lara.

Last week after seeing 27 Dresses, Erica asked me to be a bridesmaid in her wedding! I am super excited because of all of the fun things it entails – wedding shows (starting next Sunday!), dress shopping, bachelorette party, and of course the wedding itself.

Meeting the parents and setting a wedding date

This past weekend was eventful for D and myself -  D’s parents were in town and we got together with them and with my parents to discuss wedding plans.

Although they have met only a couple of times, our parents get along great.  It was really nice to be able to enjoy an evening chatting about everything that is to come!  Our wedding date has been (tentatively) set for April 25, 2009.  Ages away, but it’s great to have a date to focus on.  Next step: Securing a venue and vendors…

A Letter to Those of You who Arrived at FiveBlondes via Search Engines

Firstly, thank you for visiting.  If I knew you were coming I’d have baked a cake.

To the visitor who searched for “where is nudge button scrabulous“: alas, Scrabulous has altered the use of the ‘nudge’.  No longer can you nudge at will; now they make you wait a few days.  Personally I enjoy that feature as I have had up to 12 games on the go at once.  It can be hard to keep up!

For our many visitors who arrive with inquiries on how to keep track of who has visited your Facebook profile page:  I must redirect you to Facebooking101.com.  They note that there is currently only one FB (same initials as FiveBlondes…coincidence? Yeah, prolly) app that tracks who visited your page – and those viisting must also have that app for it to work properly (if at all).  Anyway, it’s called Trazkor, and it doesn’t seem to work.

Looking for Erica Lauren, adult film star?  Well, we have Erica and we have Lauren, but sadly (for you) no Erica Lauren.

Lastly, we have what is perhaps my favorite source of traffic.  Those of you looking for “Lululemon Butt Pics”.  While we do love our Lulu, if there are any pictures of our butts in them, it is not intentional.

Five Busy Blondes

Wow, not much going on as of late! Finals are coming up for those of us in school…naturally an important time of year. Micaela celebrated her birthday earlier this month with a new Lululemon sweater which I have yet to see, but am already very jealous of! Paisley – I love paisley! Kate and Scott are obviously back from their honeymoon, but seem to be having the same kind of difficulties that D and I are having getting telephone and internet service worked out at their new house. Who knew the real world would be this difficult? Leah’s birthday is coming up – always a party – and I hear that Lauren is getting snowed on in Ottawa and is planning to head to Tremblant soon?!? Luck-yyy!! By the way, Lo, I see that Allison Forsyth is sitting out the ski season – there’s a spot on the national team open for ya!

D and I went to Pier 1 Imports last weekend – I was there to browse, D was there to buy a coffee table (even though we have 2 already – long story) despite my insistence that we did not need a new one.  I was holding out just fine…until he pointed out a red and brown wood chest with inlaid flowers on the side…possibly the coffee table/storage unit of my dreams.  Browsing turned into buying and we now have 3 coffee tables (though one is destined for the woodpile at the farm).

Now all we need at the new apartment is a rug for in front of the gas fireplace! I love this design for a rug – in fact I would buy that one except it is a coconut fibre doormat. I guess I will continue my search!

I”m always looking for a creative output, and I love computers, so I’ve decided that my next ‘project’ (as in, the project I will take up when I no longer have to spend evenings at school!) will be a blogging project. Or, rather, a continuation of THIS blogging project. I want to use the WordPress CMS and design our own, unique theme for the site! This goes along with a side project that I can’t mention right now. ;) I am excited to get started on it and have found some great resources already, such as those on Lorelle’s blog. I know that there are many super cool free WordPress themes available on the net, but designing one myself will give me so much more satisfaction in the end, and also skills to build on.

Speaking of designing and skillz, we’ve not shared this photograph on the blog and I think we should because it is absolutely beautiful. These are our Oma’s hands as she works on Kate’s wedding dress – she hand-stitched thousands of beads, crystals, and sequins onto the dress over the summer! I like that the photo highlights her own wedding ring. She and Opa will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in January – and we’re having a big party to celebrate next summer!

How To Say I Love You

Man.  Our posting frequency has seriously diminished since the wedding.  Of course, we have our reasons…life went back to ‘normal’ and we had to catch up on stuff we had abandoned for the sake of the wedding.  Case in point: I had to study for a midterm (I had a midterm on Halloween :p ), and prepare to move to a new apartment!  Also, Kate has been away on her honeymoon in Costa Rica this past week.   I can’t vouch for Micaela, Leah, or Lauren…WAIT, I take that back, Lauren DID post the ‘optical illusion’, so, way to go Lauren!

Today I’m posting a link to a touching, yet sometimes odd, essay entitled How To Say I Love You by Paul Ford. I feel it is important to note that it is written from a male point of view, simply because I found some of the suggestions to be confusing when I first considered them from my female POV.

Ford poses his “How-To’s” in many different ways.  Some are short, simple statements that cause you to think twice, such as (2) with freshly cut flowers, assuming she is not a flower; and (46) At Thanksgiving, to her twin sister, by accident.  Others are fun, inspiring, and applicable to real life: (47) In glow-in-the-dark-paint on the bedroom ceiling; and (82) Change your status to “interested in: just friends”.

Some suggestions spoke to me from my unique perspective on the world – especially (50) Branded onto her favorite pig; and (86) via the poetry of Pablo Neruda or Jorge Luis Borges that you have copied into a small black journal.  I also loved (100), but I’ll leave that one as a surprise.

Ford includes his wedding vows as ways to say I love you…awww!  He also spins multiple “I Love You’s” into fictional stories.  Truly, this article is about how small, seemingly inconsequential acts are really testaments of love!

A Manhattan bride was so upset about the colour and condition of her centerpieces (wilted?), she is suing the florist for breach of contract. The bride is also a lawyer and filed the suit herself, which explains a lot.

Feeling Scrab-U-Lo-Riffic! FiveBlondes + Scrabulous = Love

So I’ve been watching Scrabulous catch on among my Facebook friends over the past few weeks and months (over 10% of my FB friends have it!) and have been thinking to myself “Oh, seems cool, but I won’t have the time”.   Finally early this week Mom-the-fabric-snob sends me a request to play a game with he.  I thought, ‘why not’, and installed the app (I don’t like to install FB apps generally).

I’m addicted.  It’s amazing.  I love it.  Before this week, Scrabble has always been an occasional family event at my Oma’s house that reminds me of my Opa, who was always up for a game of Scrabble.  Or Rummikub.  Now that would be a great game for a Facebook app (hint, hint).  But I digress – back to Scrabulous.  Playing a casual game game of Scrabble in this format allows you the time to really look for words and make the most of all of your tiles.  I actually played one word that used ALL of my tiles!  GRANOLA – 62 points.  You can play with many friends at a time, no matter where they are! Right now we have a game going on with Leah, Micaela, and I…although Micaela hasn’t made a move yet and Leah and I have made 2.  Time for a friendly nudge.

Another fun part of Scrabulous is that you can play with absolutely anyone, anywhere.  I put out a call for a game with someone random, not necessarily a friend, and am now playing with “Janet C”.  After several moved I wondered to myself, who is Janet C?  Turns out Janet is from Los Angeles.  Pretty neat.

So if you’re looking for a way to spend a little time online and improving  your vocabulary at the same time, try Scrabulous.  Fun in every move – guaranteed!
