Etsy Roundup

Some lust worthy faves from Etsy brought to you by Kate and Lauren (mostly Lauren, since only the first one is from Kate :) !)

From sweetpeatoadtots.  This knitter/crocheter has a baby son (the model!) and a 3 year old daughter, and still finds time to do all of these projects!   She makes organic items, hats, costumes, headbands, and even photography props (an adorable pumpkin for the fall!).

Lana0Crystal has the cutest jewellery, that all seem to have a nature, spring feeling to them.  And in the fall weather we’re experiencing here in Ottawa, I need it!  Most of the pieces are silver, but there is just a hint of colour on each page, like these adorable Robin’s egg earrings!

What I'm loving.

Micaela here. A few things I’ve been loving for the last month:

  • Anna Turns Six on Tarawhitney.com. A beautiful tribute to this photographer’s daughter.
  • I cut these shoes out of a magazine because I loved them so much, and then my favourite fashion blogger found a $69 version. (Fate.)
  • Maybe it’s partially the fact that I have been dying for really long hair lately, but there is something about Madeleine M. that I adore:
  • The bedroom at This Young House. I love so many interior design photos I’ve seen on blogs recently. It’s a shame, really, because I have no permanent residence to decorate at the moment. I love the chandelier, the lamps, and the huge curtains. And well, everything:
  • Most definitely the cutest daddy-to-be in the world! (Uh oh, mothering instincts quite possibly kicking in too!):
  • Youaremyfave.com has been focusing on a different design accent colour every day. The pictures she finds are so gorgeous that each colour quickly becomes my new favourite. Today, orange is our fave. Photo from where else but Apartment Therapy.

  • And a couple that I tweeted about yesterday:
  • I saw this shirt on Design Crush today. The French: Moi, je veux te dire que je ne te quitterai jamais. Et puis, si tu es triste, je pourrais toujours te donner un peu d’alcool pour te rechauffer le couer. xo Basically this means that “I’ll be there for you always. And I’ll get you drunk when you’re sad.” Get it on etsy.
  • Peonies and Polaroids received this dress and a fancy camera from her husband on their one year anniversary. I am tres impressed. If you are inclined, check out her wedding in her archives (about one year ago!) It was perfect.
  • This wedding wins my heart. I’m having a tent wedding in 148 days (according to facebook.)

By order of the management!

This piece of digital art reminded me of our parent’s rule for us girls when we lived at home:

No boys allowed upstairs!

Since mom has turned 2 out of 3 of our old bedrooms into her sewing studios, the rule has been relaxed a little – except when she’s working on a wedding dress.  Then some boys are not allowed!

These “By Order of the Management” prints make me giggle!  It’s funny to see the ‘strict rules’ in such bright, cheerful colours.

Speaking of Etsy, I’m trying out their Alchemy service right now (mom don’t click that link…) and so far the results are fantastic.  It’s been less than 30 minutes since I posted my request and I already have 3 fun, completely different bids for my project.  I can’t wait to see what other kinds of bids I get!

Has anyone else used Alchemy to request custom bids before?

Here's to a greener you

Lately most of the world has been focusing on ‘greening’ up our lives, making it a better world for our future generations (and for us to enjoy too!).   I have seen many articles and blog posts on this topic and wanted show you some wonderful things that I found!  Reduce, reuse recycle

When going grocery shopping I make sure to always use my re-usable bags. I have 3 bags, 2 large ones and 1 smaller ones and my groceries always fit! I find myself getting mad inside when I see people using plastic bags, it’s so easy to switch over to re-usable bags, and much better for the earth.

One thing that still bugs me is the plastic bags that you put your fruit and vegetables in. I try not to use them, but sometimes you need to have something to keep your fruit together (who wants 5 peaches floating around in their grocery bags, not me).  Then I came across this website that made their own string bag for produce at the grocery store! What a fantastic idea. I’ve yet to make one (Mom wanna lend me a sewing machine?)

(Source: Instructables)

The website has a step by step process for making the string bag, these are very simple to make!  The fabric they used was tulle netting, in all sorts of fun colours!

The 2nd thing I found is on etsy. The shop is called thegreenmarket, and the owner basically makes refils for swiffer products that can be used over and over! I do like swiffer products but hate that it causes a lot of waste and this is a great solution. (Again I’m sure this would be very simple to make).  Here’s an example of the duster product.

Kristal also had some great things to say about going green, make sure to check out what she does to help the planet!

Other things I do for the environment? Recycle. Use re-usable water bottles. Never leave my car running. Carpool. and that’s just to name a few.

There are so many simple ways to green up your life, what are you doing to help?  Come on! Jump on the bandwagon!

And something to inspire you.

Etsy Feature – Gifts! Or keep them for yourself!

Browsing Etsy recently I came across the Gift Guides page. I thought this was a wonderful idea for people, such as myself, who are (in my case, self-proclaimed) bad at buying gifts.

Need a house warming gift?

Try this vine patchwork pillow by blair:

Or this cute teapot by JMNPOTTERY:

Need a gift for a specific season? Have no fear Etsy to the rescue, for example these Spring items:

Mini spring quilt by syko:

And (sorry I couldn’t resist) how cute is this little apple jacket (by jacquelineknits)? Never will you have a bruised apple again.

Etsy feature: Oktak

We are starting a new feature where we feature Etsy.com sellers. Want us to feature you? Send us an email!

Oktak

Oktak is a Seller from New York who was born in Tokyo. She sells many purses but also has baby goods. Here are 2 purses that caught my eye off the bat.

How does one resist something as cute as this little ruffly purse!?

The bright yellow is so cute and punchy. Reminds me of Spring.. dear winter I am finally getting a bit sick of you.I still love the snow, but sometimes the cold just gets to me. Teaching 7 week lessons at the hill are over this weekend, so winter can slow down now. It’s March tomorrow!
