As many of you know, both Kate and I attended the University of Guelph. I know we have at least a couple of readers who have also done so (Hi Laura! Hi Allison! Hi Laura Jean! Hi Allison H!) Apparently a lot of Laura’s and Allison’s went to Guelph. I happen to have fallen in love with that city when I was there for four long-yet-not-long-enough years, and I do everything I can to maintain my connection with the Royal City.

Today I found a blog that will help me maintain my connection to Guelph even more! If you are at all (or not at all) interesting in the goings-on of the city of Guelph visit Blog Guelph and drop them some love. I think it is so cool that Guelph itself has a blog. It has photos, events and news related to Guelph. It is also a finalist in the photo art category of the Canadian Blog Awards. At least, go vote for a blog that is truly awesome! Guelph really is a great city, and I miss it there all the time. Although, Calgary is becoming a serious rival. I feel as though I have finally carved my niche here! I am finding all the cool hidden consignment shops (outfit blog to follow this one regarding an excellent find), I am becoming a regular at some awesome spots, the guy in the convenience store in my building now knows me by name, as does the guy in the liquor shop down the street (what can I say, I am a wino). Natalie and I are having fun finding all the fun new places we can. It’s not easy moving to a new city, but luckily I have a great friend, a great boyfriend, amazing family and tons of support from home. Maybe that is the key to a successful move across the country?

EDIT: I have uploaded the pictures from my birthday.

The outfit: This shirt makes me feel like a rockstar and is the comfiest bar shirt to ever exist!

Tim didn’t come out with us because he was tired, and until looking at the photos I didn’t realize how tired he actually looked! Being in hotels, they work you right to the bone.

There may have only been two of us out, but clearly Natalie and I were excited enough for two hundred! There’s nothing like starting out in a fancy club and ending up in a bar in a basement and being happier in the latter.

This is my only evidence from the zoo, obviously I couldn’t resist the baby gorilla and her Mommy napping and playing together!

Tim took me to Murrietta’s West Coast Bar and Grill for my birthday dinner and my restaurant review is: amazing atmosphere, gorgeous restaurant and bar, preofessional staff, amazing melt-in-your-moutn foie gras, and our mains (bouileebaisse and elk two ways) left something to be desired (that doesn’t sound right?), great wine, and even Creemore on tap for Tim - bonus!

Kudos to Mic for the purse, Leah and Stef for the earrings, and Kate for the getting ready rock-out music! That you SO MUCH ladies! Oh, and Tim for the hour long hot stone massage I am getting tomorrow!

Sorry for the giant photos, Erica you can alter them if you like! I am so not great at that sort of thing. I would love a tutorial over Christmas.

You don’t question her. You just run, run right out the door, into your car and home into your lovers warm, enticing arms. Then you have a Tetris battle with him, get your butt kicked and he goes to work for the evening. Because I did exactly that today, I am bored at 3:22pm and am at home alone!

I am so excited to go home in December, but have realized that I better keep myself really busy over the next few weeks to help the time pass. Luckily, I already had a birthday scheduled in on the way, but I also have my work Christmas party, I am helping a catering business out by being their bartender for another Christmas party, I am babysitting for a family and I am also going to Tim’s work Christmas party! All in just a few short weeks. A year ago, I would have said to myself THAT’S ALL, LEAH!?! But I am so enjoying the pace my life is at right now. Throughout University I kept my schedule jam packed full, but right now I am happy to relax after a day at work, de-stress from all the insane situations my clients put me in throughout a week, have a glass of wine and play Nintendo.

The point of this post was to blog about my outfit, as Mic challenged us to do this week, but I don’t have a full length mirror, and Tim is gone to work already so I am going to blog about the upper half of my outfit, and the challenges of living with a boy when you don’t have a full length mirror (the horror, I know. But Tim wouldn’t let me pack mine into his car when we left).

I am totally a bargain shopper. I love to look at expensive clothes, but, being a social worker, could only dream of a wardrobe and shoe collection of Tiffany. I have this secret wish that someone would come up to me and tell me that they love my outfit, then ask where I got it from and I would be able to tell them that they could have the same look for under $60.

This picture is why every girl needs a full-length mirror. You will see more proof shortly.

This shirt is kind of like a shirt/dress - although on this tall girl it would be suicidal to wear it as a dress. I got it from Suzy Shier (don’t tell!) along with these awesome mary jane-ish heels which altogether came to a total of $38. You may question the fact that the shoes came from Suzy Shier, but as proof how cute they are, I wore them to a bar a couple of weeks ago with tights and a long tank top, and a guy even came up to me, complimented me on them then asked me where I got them (he said he wanted to go there and get shoes for him when I looked at him doubtfully). Upon looking back, I realize that may have just been a terrible pick-up line (he went on and on about them, until I finally asked him if he was trying up pick me up or if he was gay) but, heck, at least he noticed them! Back to the shirt though, I love the tuxedo detailing on it, and I got this belt ($12) to go with it that didn’t really make it into the picture, which I also wore to work today with black pants and brown boots.

I also got this scarf and hat the other day which I am loving on and they were feeling left out of the blog.

There is mega amounts of sun in this one, but I wanted to include it to show you how SUNNY the city of Calgary always is. Medicine Hat is the sunniest city in Canada, but I am willing to fight Statistics Canada on that one and say that Calgary gets the most hours of sunshine. That is how sunny my apartment is ALL THE TIME. All the freaking time. Not that I am complaining, I really do love it.

I did have a budget relapse the other day, when I was trying to find a new shirt to go out in with my best (only?) friend and came home one from Smart Set, which cost me $40. I don’t remember the last time I spent that much on a stupid tank top! My excuse was that I can wear it to my Christmas parties too, so that makes it better I hope. When I did wear it out, I had a hard time deciding what shoes to wear with it. This is what I had to resort to without a full-length mirror and a boyfriend who doesn’t give a crap what I look like.

I realize this picture makes my legs look freakishly skinny, oh wait. They are. I have always had chicken legs! The ones on the right won, mostly because I have a hard time walking in the sandals and because they are 2.5″, I am 6′1″ when I wear them and I did not feel like towering over the rest of the world. But the point is that I seriously had to resort to that to decide because it was the only way I could see them objectively. Kind of objectively.

Don’t worry about my chicken legs though, the boyfriend keeps trying to fatten me up good and curvy by feeding me amazing meals such as this one:

It’s probably hard to tell, but it is Allspice roasted chicken breast with brie cheese, with Shiitake mushrooms, carrots and rosemary new potatoes. Seriously, who eats like this on a daily basis??! I am a very lucky girl to have a boyfriend who cooks for me like that regularly. Thanks Timbo! To repay him I do things like this:

He secretly (not so secretly anymore) loves Biore Pore Strips, but refused to pose for a picture while doing one. I even used my “But baby, it’s for the blog!” technique, however in this case, that probably only made it worse. If you haven’t ever used a Biore pore strip, and especially if you have larger pores around your nose and are prone to blackheads, go right now to your nearest Shoppers Drug Mart and get some! You have to suffer through about 10 minutes of extreme discomfort, but once you peel that baby off it is so worth it. Plus, if you do it with your boyfriend you can compare whose noses were dirtier.

I’m channeling my inner Cupcakes and Cashmere today with a fashion blog, although my pictures are not nearly as cute and instead of backgrounds of Californian tropics, you get Windsor student house.

I started my teaching placement this week and obviously this calls for new teacher clothes. I refuse to be one of the drab teachers that I remember from my elementary school years. Here is my newest teacher outfit.

Top: H&M
Pants: RW&Co

This is a better look at the top. Check out that mirror, I cleaned it earlier today and that was before I even knew I was going to take this picture. Go me.

I’m channeling my inner Lauren, and my inner Annaleigh from ANTM (who got completely robbed, don’t even get me started!) with these peace sign earrings (from Payless). Love them. And no, when I am teaching, I will not be wearing a red bra under the see through top.

I might do this all week for my teaching outfits, if anyone wants me to. I’m also challenging all of my sisters to blog one outfit from the week, by next Saturday!

PS If anyone wishes to teach me how to edit photos easily so I don’t have to put the unedited version online for all the world to see, that would be appreciated.

I got this in my email inbox today and of course had to share it! Harajuku Lovers Fragrance is “inspired by Gwen Stefani’s love of Harajuku, Tokyo”.  The bottles come with the cutest harajuku-styled figurines on top.

It’s for Canadians only - sorry to our American readers, but we’ll let you know how great it is soon!
