Home For a Rest

Okay, I take that back. When I went home last weekend with Rhian (my roommate whom you may remember from this post) it was anything but restful! Our train left at noon from Ottawa, so for 4 hours we talked, looked a scenery, took pictures, did homework, and watched “Talking to Americans” on youtube.  We met Leah in Toronto for some dinner and a glimpse of the CN Tower, then it was off to London.  As we were walking into an Irish pub in Toronto that a homeless man kindly pointed us into, Leah started mentioning that it was so fitting that we were going to an Irish pub! Turns out she thought Rhian was from Ireland, not Australia.

My friend Leah (not to be confused with my sister Leah) picked us up from the train station in London and we headed to her house for a pre drink before going to Cowboys, our favourite country bar, where a few of us rode the bull!

On Saturday we had promised Katelyn that we would babysit Hails and Brianna while she cleaned and got ready for the baptism the next day.  Babysitting may have turned into playing then all of us taking a nap, but we then went to the mall with Hailey in tow to meet Erica and Denis.

A Whole Lotta Love

Being her cute self

I touched a bit on how loving Hailey is with Brianna in Bri’s 2 month post, but I failed to mention how loving Hailey is with all her aunts, grandparents and most importantly Scott and me, her parents. Let me tell you about our bedtime last night and you can get a better glimpse of what an adorable and loving girl our Hailey is.

Setting the scene: Kate home alone at bedtime with 2 kids. Brianna tired and Hailey a hyper girl.

Hailey got back from a day with her grandparents. We sat and talked about her day (I talked/asked questions, she listened and repeated random words),  I nursed Brianna and we went to change her diaper. After we changed her diaper, I asked Hailey to get Brianna’s pjs, thinking that she probably wouldn’t, she then ran out of the room and came back a minute later with a pair of pjs for Brianna! Smart cookie that one! Then she climbed up on the bed (from a laundry basket full of clothes at the end of my bed, waiting to get put away…) and gave kisses to Brianna. Love.

Bath time for Hailey! She loves bath time, splashing up a storm and Brianna doesn’t mind hanging out in her bouncy chair watching. After bath time, we went to the living room, so I could attempt to bounce Brianna to sleep on the exercise ball and read Hailey books at the same time (yes, I am now a multitasking queen). We read a couple and I asked her to find her dog book, so she tore all the books off the shelf and brought me the right book (her current fave, not gonna lie, it was at the bottom of the pile so I could get a break from reading it and hid it there).

Then it was time to get Hailey ready for bed, we got her baby and blanket and put her in her sleep sack. She gave kisses to Brianna as I got her sippy cup of milk ready. She drank her milk with me holding her and once again bouncing Brianna to sleep in her bouncy chair. After just the right amount of bounces, Brianna looked content enough to leave her and Hailey and I walked to her room singing the ABCs (her bedtime song). She rubbed my nose with hers, a million times over, then reached for her crib, because we just started giving her a bit of a backrub before bedtime and she LOVES it. I was rubbing her back when she stood up, I started to protest because I thought she wanted me to pick her up, when she gave me a huge kiss and laid back down. melt my heart, holy moly.

I still get all heart swelly thinking about it , I just love that girl so much!

A Year and a Half

Lets start this Hailey post once again by saying- 18 MONTHS ALREADY?! Time really does fly when you have kids and you don’t notice it until you look back on how far you have come.
The randomness of this post just shows how tired I am lately, there seems to be no order, so get ready for some random tidbits about Hailey at 18 months!

CUTIE

Hailey is both a lot of fun these days, and quite a handful as well. She says and does things that make us laugh and laugh. Her favourite saying is “OH NO!” While out for dinner last week she was in a highchair eating and making a mess (which apparently she didn’t realize). After eating we pulled her chair back to get her out and she looked down and kept repeating “Oh No, Oh No” over and over while waving her hands at the mess on the floor. So she grabbed a napkin and once we took her out she began to clean up the floor. Such a funny girl. She loves to clean, wiping up messes and trying to sweep up the floor.

While she loves her little sister, it’s also causing stress as the meltdowns occur when she realizes I don’t have the hands to pick her up all the time or give her what she wants. Lets just say me at Week 1 as a mom of 2 had no idea what was coming- Week 2 and on is a lot harder and tiring.

Fun at the splash pad

Hailey is saying lots of words these days, and while I’d love to write it out here, I know it won’t mean anything to people reading this so I’ll save it for the baby book. Up, mommy, daddy and baby are her favourite words. Help please (sounds like “hea pease”) was her first sentence, it sounds like she is saying happy over and over.

She can understand SO MUCH. Today we were asking her what she was taller then and she kept raising her arms in the air when we said tall. I don’t even think we say the word tall to her very much, so it surprised me that she knew that. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I love that she can understand us and I love finding out new things that she understands.

Hailey has 8 teeth and one molar starting to poke through, which so far has not caused us much grief. She loves to brush her teeth and gets mad when we tell her that she has brushed them long enough. She enjoys running around the house with her toothbrush, sitting down, brushing some more and getting up running to a new place and brushing again. Hailey takes one nap a day at around 1pm until 3pm (or earlier if she wakes up crying) still not the best napper.

18 months old

Now that Brianna has arrived, Hailey looks so much bigger (see photo below for proof). When I change Hailey’s diaper I find myself repeating to her, you are too big for diapers! We are working slowly on potty training,we had a few weeks when a couple times a day she would go but once Brianna arrived Hailey decided she did not want to sit on the potty and over the past few days decided it might be okay again. The one drawback to that is she loves to sit on the potty and read book after book, so we end up sitting there forever with no results and that is frustrating!

Big sister, Little sister

Hailey loves to dance these days. She plays on her leapster laptop and mainly presses the music button over trying out her moves. Her favourites are the arm swing and a move where she puts her head on the ground (see photo) I don’t have a name for that move yet. She also changes up that last move by either kicking one leg up in the air or putting her arms up.

New dance move

Playing outside is where Hailey would love to spend all her time. It’s harder now that we have Brianna too, trying to keep her out of the heat, which has been extreme here these days. Hailey has recently discovered sidewalk chalk, however we seem to be doing the colouring as Hailey bosses us around. Same goes inside with the crayons. These days the crayons must stay on the coffee table for easy access to colouring at all times. Scott and I are perfecting our colouring techniques.

How we roll

Hailey loves to drink out of a big girl cup and does really well without spilling.  She loves milk and would drink it all day if we let her. She loves to watch and help me cook. We baked cookies the other day, which was a mess, but fun as well.

Looking forward to each and every milestone we come across! Happy 18 Months Hailey!

Someone get this girl a modelling contract

… not really, but I think she is pretty darn cute!

We recently did a clothing for photos exchange and these are some of the cute shots I took of Hailey.  Our first time taking the photos she was really into it, later on not so much, so it took a few tries to get a variety of shots and to show off the clothes the best. Scott was our assistant and he was pretty good at it. I think I’ll hire him.

I never really post videos of Hailey but she does some pretty funny stuff. Here’s a super short video of her ‘fast feet’ scurry thing. If she’s in the mood you just say Hailey fast feet and she will lift her feet up and down really fast.

Another hilariously cute video. It was all I could do to stop from bursting out laughing. Make sure you have your sound on for this one because it’s Hailey’s silly sounds that make the video for me.

Hailey and her smarts

These days I’m loving testing Hailey’s knowledge. I’m told she’s pretty smart, but what mom doesn’t think that about their child?

I ask Hailey where is dada, where is the kitty, where are the flowers, where is the puzzle and so on. She points to each thing and never seems to get annoyed. Also cute is when she doesn’t know where the thing is and puts her hands up and almost seems to shrug her shoulders.

Here are photos (taken on webcam) of Hailey showing me where things are on her head…

What a cutie!

Remember when she was small?? Wow time flies.

Also note: Chase is in all (but 1) of the photos. What a photo hog.

The end of my random Friday post.

Hailey is 15 Months Old!

More park fun

Tidbits of Hailey at 15 months of age.

Words:

hi
dada
mama
kitty
doggy
up
that
door
uh oh
Casey (apparently Hailey said Casey at church while sitting with Mic, I didn’t hear it but believe it, Hailey loves her cousin)

(not all these words are used consistently, but we have heard them all used in the correct context).

At the park!

Sleeping:

Night 7:30pm – 7am
Nap: 12pm – 1:30/2pm

Eating:

Hailey eats what we eat (minus the junk food).
She loves to use a fork and spoon and refuses to let me feed her anything. She is a very independent eater.

Behaviour:

Bossy at times and stubborn
She knows what she wants and will stop at nothing to get it.
She is VERY curious.
Hailey loves to give kisses and hugs. Sharing kisses with Casey below!

Kisses for cousin Casey

Toys loved this month:

Mega Blocks
Dolls
Books (especially her orange & purple books)
Plastic eggs
Wooden puzzles (over and over again)

Sizes:

12-18 month clothes
Size 5 shoes
Size 4 diapers

Hailey has 7 teeth, 4 on top and 3 on the bottom.

New Easter Shoes

Hailey’s adorable toes in her Easter Shoes, she was very excited for these. And I was worried that they would be too big (size 5) she could even use a 6, it looks like these won’t fit long!

Life is so fun with a toddler. Hailey’s personality is really showing, and even though her daycare providor says she is a bit of a bully (she’s just stubborn) I still love every little thing about her (as a mom should).

The cutest thing she  is doing lately is hugging and kissing my belly. She lifts my shirt over my belly kisses, hugs it and pulls my shirt back down. I don’t think she really understands what she is doing though… she did the same to Scott’s belly yesterday. hahaha

Hailey has her 15 month appointment on Monday, she gets needles and then starts a new daycare. I don’t think she will be too happy of a girl that day.

It’s amazing how much Hailey understands what we say. I love being able to ask her to get things and she does. She is also good at pointing to her eyes, nose, mouth and most recently her ears. Before I put her in her crib last night she saw my ears and started wiggling them one by one. She’s always very excited to learn new things.

Here’s to the next months!

Baby #2- 28 Weeks Pregnant

week 2828 weeks

My belly is starting to look the same as it did with Hailey, just a bit bigger.

How far along?: 28w

How big is baby?: Weeks 25-28 Eggplant

Weight gain/loss?: Not sure, next drs appt is May 3- glucose test on Monday though.

Maternity clothes?: Here and there. I like to mix it up. Mat pants all the time if I’m wearing jeans.

Food cravings?: Chocolate and grapes

Movement?: Lots and lots! Getting the sharp pokes from the inside that I have to push back against because it hurts.

Belly button?: Innie, looking weird but will probably stay that way.

Aches and Pains?: Sore from standing all day at work. A bit of rib pain.

What are you looking forward to this week?  The weekend. And Hailey hopefully trying out her next daycare sometime next week. I’m looking forward to her meeting new kids, but am nervous to how she will react.

Big congrats to my friend Allison who had her first baby yesterday! We took the above photo at her shower in March (2nd last bump in the photo) Lynndsay- had a girl, Allison-had a boy, Lara- pregnant with a girl due early June, Michelle- due late June an me.

Allison had a boy and named him Charles (Charlie)! Our friend Lynndsay had a girl a few weeks ago- Chyler and Mic had Casey in December. It’s the year of C names and if our baby is a girl she will continue with this trend!  There’s a little name hint for you who don’t know our name choices.

I need to do a major Hailey update, I missed her 14 month post and feel like she has changed so much. She understands so much of what we say and it starting to come up with new words every week now! She’s in such an adorable stage (really every stage is adorable though!)

Cheese!

When we ask her to smile for the camera sometimes we are lucky to get this pretty smile, sometimes it’s the cheesy toddler smile. Adorable none the less!

Puzzle time

Puzzles are pretty popular at our house right now.

Hailey is 13 months old

Hailey- 13 months
Hailey is such a little toddler now.

Getting grumpy when she doesn’t get what she wants, running around flinging toys, always wanting to be held to see what I’m doing and generally being adorable. In the evenings Scott and I love to just sit and watch her flit from toy to couch to cat to whatever else grabs her attention with the occasional twirl added in here and there. She’s just so cute to watch. I’m amazed at the changes every day.

Her favourite toys right now are stacking toys, blocks that Scott got for her for Christmas and mega blocks from Jeff & Michelle for her birthday. She loves to stack them, take them apart, stack them up again and run over to show us what she made. She’s such a smartie pants.

blocks

Right now she likes to test her limits at home with all the construction going on. There are a few holes in the wall at her level and she always tries to put her hand in it, so we have to pull her away and its like a magnet is pulling her back there.

No new words at all lately, everything is dadadadada. She loves to mimic us with clicking our tongues or blowing air though our lips making the brrrr sound. She’s a pro at that. I’m excited for when she will start to talk more, but I’m really not sure when that will happen. I love how much she can understand us. If we ask her to bring us a certain toy she will and her favourite action right now is to twirl, so we ask her to twirl and she will go in circles until she falls over then gets up and does it again.

Bath time2

Shes becoming a bit of a picky eater. If she doesn’t’ like something for dinner it goes over the edge of her tray. We try to get her to give it to us but she prefers the floor. She does not like cheese, she loves fruit especially bananas and loves goldfish crackers and raisins. Pretty sure she would live on raisins if she could… mostly they just go right through her so pretty sure she could not survive on just raisins.

Mommy points- She’s still napping twice a day, around 10am and 3pm. For an hour each time. Gets a morning cup of milk, one at lunch and a big one before bed which she loves. She also drinks lots of water throughout the day.

So that’s a little 13 month update on Hailey! I’m 21 weeks pregnant today so I’ll have to do an update tomorrow.
