Painting the town (and my lips) red.

My grade 10 religion teacher once told my class that she ‘never leaves the house without her eyebrows on’, and I know a few people who I would barely recognize without their bright lipstick. I’ve never ever ventured out in to the world with red lipstick because I never thought I could pull it off, but I stopped in to a MAC store and a few weeks ago a whim just to buy some. Even though I was initially dubious, I’ve worn my lips out a few times and I’m kind of loving it! I’m still not sure how day-appropriate the look is, but I like just having fun with it in a city where I barely know anyone. I generally refer to the old adage of concentrating one one feature at a time – not overdoing the lips if you have intense eye makeup and vice versa, so I’m not wearing any shadow at all on my eyes in these photos (just eyeliner). Overboard? Perhaps. But I don’t often wear dark eye makeup anyways, I’m more of a pink-y and gold-y , shimmery tones kind of gal.

I had an important appointment earlier this week and thought I needed a little liquid waxy courage so I painted on my lips and off I went.

(The colour is MAC matte Russian Red from the Wonder Woman collection. Love it? Hate it? Think I look like a hooker? Let me know.)

Now for the hair, I pretty much never leave my house without curly hair these days, which probably means I have too much time on my hands. I’m currently using my hair iron but I want to get a set of hot rollers and see how those work for me, and I’d also like a large barrel curling iron. I think I’ll pop in to my local Value Village and see if they have any el cheapo hair electronics (don’t judge). Maybe we even have an old set at the Farm that I can get my paws on. Anyone? Lau?

I know Lauren can rock a set of bright pink lips pretty hot, but how about YOU? Any other bright lipstick lovers out there? Or bright lip virgins?

Fiveblondes Giveaway

Picture 1I’ve been feeling very creative lately, so I went to Michael’s and raided the clearance aisles.  I looove headbands, even though they have trouble staying on my head (any pointers on that? haha), and I love to make them.  These headbands are made of ribbon and fabric that I sewed on, and are the cutest things everr! Kaylee is wearing hers right now too!

Loves, ten days, and Tuesday night.

There are ten days left until the wedding and I am a busy but un-stressed bride. Just getting everything finished up this week, and getting excited for the bachelorette party this weekend (which all five blondes will be attending!)

Here are a few things – wedding related and not, that I’m loving in my life lately – in picture form! Ten things, in honour of the ten days.

1. Braids:

2. Surprise Dutch ice cream shops (second only to my newest love, ice cream trucks.):
3. Wedding DIY messes:

4. My day-after-hair-trial curls:

5. Mid-day smiles and laughter layin around with this fellow:

And the loves that have no pictures attached to them:

6. The picnic on the lake I’m planning for us tomorrow night. Any picnic preparing tips you can give me?

7. The fact that Kent and I have become ”that couple” that runs together, maps out runs on mapmyrun.com, and discusses our runs in detail if we ran separately that day.

8. My wedding shower from this past weekend, everyone who attended, and making my house lovely with all of my wonderful gifts.

9. That Miss Leah will be here in just a few days! I will allow her to stay in Calgary as long as she continues to visit us three times a year (and as long as I can get out there once a year.)

10. THE HONEYMOON! We’re going right away (because we are romantic like that), to Maui and Kaui, stopping in LA for one night along the way. I. can’t. wait!

Your turn! What are you loving? Top ten things!

Hair is just Hair

We’ve had a few posts here and there about hair colour. Most recent being our guest post by Hope dies Last, about Brunettes Vs Blondes… well I have a bit of a confession or I think I did it again, as Brittney Spears might say.

I went to the hairdresser on Tuesday night and asked for a darker blonde, I was sick of my ugly yellow-toned hair and wanted it brought down a notch or two. And toned down she did. I am convinced my hair is brown. Others are calling it, dirty blonde, dark blonde, and even strawberry blonde.  She said that it would blend into my more natural colour as it grows in, but holy cow this takes a bit of getting used to! It really reminds me of last time I had my hair brown and every morning I would wake up and be like oh my gosh what have  done.

So what do you think? Brown or not?

Sorry about the bed hair…

One behind the cut.

I asked Erica not to kill me for doing this before the wedding! :)

Whose ponytail is highest?

Monday April 6th, 9:00pm:

The five blondes (or the Micaela and Lauren among us) have decided that a high ponytail is THE best just outta the shower or lazy day hair. The only stipulation is that it has to be really, really high, as in so high that you would be embarrassed to go out in public with such a crazy ‘do. (But you still do anways.)

I gave all of my sisters the task of taking a picture of them with their crazy high ponytail sometime on Monday. It’s 9:00 pm and so far only Lauren and I have followed through which shows our strong dedication to our new fad. This will be posted at 9:00pm on Tuesday for my weekly Tuesday post, so let’s see who has one by then. No pressure or anything, girls!

I have two, because I did my hair the other night and it looked like I was a Who! Then I took another one today.

I don’t think mine is quite as high as Lauren’s…but it makes up for it by being smooth and long!

Hi! Ponytail

Too Busy for Words!

Saturday is the first night of the play, when we will actually perform “Musical Comedy Murders of 1940″ for an audience.  Tonight we have our dress rehearsal, will probably have a emergency practice tomorrow and then Saturday we begin our performances, all 4 of them! It’s hard to believe it’s here already… We started practicing in January and now that seems ages ago.  I hardly have time for words, especially considering I should be doing my hair 40s right now… but just wanted to pop by and say hi. :)

This is the video I’m using for my hair.   You Tube- 1940s Hair in Under 5 Minutes

Here’s how it turned out after mom gave me a hand, I am no good at 40s hair! That’s for sure… here’s when I forgot the camera was on manual and I tried to take a self portrait.

Laura and me, my hair is so large it’s shading her face.  In front of the stage.

And a shot of our little stage for community theatre. Wish me luck!
