Because I love to make you laugh.

After having had a few more seizures last week and visitng the hospital once more (I’m taking medication now to control them), the doctors think they have a diagnosis for me.

I have Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizures – basically, my MRI, CAT scan and ECG all came back completely normal and even though I do not have epilepsy, I still have seizures and they have no explanation for them. They think the seizures may be caused by stress, which I am relating to my move to Toronto next week.

But let’s talk about Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizures for a minute. Long names tend to have acronyms, and Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizures is no exception.

So, what would that the acronym be?

PNES.

Okay, now say that out loud. Really, sound it out…

Pee. Nis.

Basically, I have PNES. Last week I had a PNES. Honestly, only me would get diagnosed with a disorder called PNES.

My Little Lady?

Hails is not the most ladylike baby out there… check out this evidence.

Looks like I’m always going to have to put tights on and a onesie on under her dresses.

Everything's Coming Up Green

No not money green (and speaking of money green I’m going to have to be spending less of that in the near future because of a little big something we are purchasing, expect a post about that in the next few weeks). The green I’m taking about it clothes & accessories green.  I am obsessed with buying all things green and it’s not even like I try.

  • Stroller= green
  • Diaper Bag = green
  • Duvet Cover = green
  • My vest = green
  • Hailey’s curtains, bed skirt, change cover and sheets =  green
  • My new dress for Hailey’s baptism = green

And it’s not even all shades of green, it’s the same darn lime green. Someone save me, I’m drowning in green!

Anyone else have this same problem? Perhaps with a different colour?

The wonderful world of twitter.

Twitter has the “favourite” function, and I try to remember to use it every time I see a tweet that I think is funny/thought-provoking/charming. Looking through it today, there are a few that I seriously need to share. You can find my whole list here if you’re friends with me. If you’re not, send me a request and I’ll accept you, promise.

MarthaStewart: i have a very very serious question for all of you: HOW OFTEN DO YOU WASH YOUR SHEETS/CHANGE YOUR BED?? i would like lots of answers please

Oh gosh. Martha, both my wedding and I will be forever thankful for you for imparting upon me your tissue-flower-making wisdom, but your idea of what is “very very serious” and capital-letter worthy in this world needs some adjustment. I didn’t answer this on Twitter, but I’m sure my answer would have to be “not often enough for Martha Stewart standards.”

johncmayer: If you think “Party in the USA” is ironically awesome, go home. If you think it’s authentically awesome, let’s dance.

I find it hard to stop myself from favouriting every second John Mayer tweet. I just love the way he thinks and writes and sings and I could go on and on… instead I will just wait until the next time I am with Reggy to discuss these important matters further.

ericablonde: Not only is my husband the perfect man for me, he’s also the perfect brother for my sisters.

Aww! Love this sentiment. D-dawg really is the bestest (and he reads the blog so bonus points for him!)

whoorl: I truly believe a person’s essence can be summarized in their last 10-20 tweets. Me? Air guitar, lip gloss, making plans and happy joy joy.

Love again! I fully accept and appreciate that everyone has their bad days, but I have been known to unfriend people for constantly posting nothing but negative tweets. Happy tweets make me happy, and there are good moments every day. Tweet about that once in a while. Even if it’s just lip gloss!

CynGagen: RT @kathyireland “Whoever is happy will make others happy as well…” Anne Frank. Thank you all for such a beautiful adventure.

That sums up what I meant in my comments in the previous tweet quite well. Thank you, Ann Frank.

whoorl: “I’m not a really religious guy, but I do pray for opportunities to make fun of people.” HAAAAA. Doesn’t get better than that.

Now I don’t know who Whoorl is quoting there, but that just makes me laugh.

dooce: Me: “Leta, Katey is going to help you–” Leta: “Kate, Mom. Kate. I call her Kate.” Me: “NOTED, TOM CRUISE.”

hahaha! Enough said.

whoorl: Reverse psychology potty training is awesome. (Although, I’m a little disappointed that he’s actually falling for it.)

Apparently I love her tweets! I can totally imagine feeling the same in this situation.

burnace: Cruise Ships: Might as well just rename them “Drunken Maze”.

I’ve never been on a cruise, but this idea very much makes me want to go one one! Thank you, Laura.

nicolerichie: When asking my friend what she’s done on her birthday, she says “Well, I sent my mom flowers because she gave birth to me today”

Such a nice idea!

kasiafink: Last night at alumni dinner, met a funny, wise 95yr old man who told me the secret to a lasting marriage: don’t take yourselves too seriously.

And aren’t we all guilty of this sometimes? This could be my favourite marriage advice of all time.

jonoearle: Leah hasn’t tweeted for 16 hrs. I’m really worried about her.

Sarcastic of course, but hilarious to me! Leah loves her tweets (and I love Leah’s tweets too.)

fragileheart: loves saying things that she’ll regret later. I think it makes life more exciting.

To me this is usually what makes life horrible, but I like thinking of it as exciting. Thanks Reggy!

kylaroma: Sometimes my mom really makes me laugh: “I like spending time just with you, it reminds me of when we used to hang out in the 80′s”

Liiiike… when she was a baby/small child??? Love it.

PerezHilton: P.S. Just because you say “no offense” doesn’t mean it’s not offensive! Duh.

Yes! I hate that saying. When I hear “no offense, but…” I automatically get ready to hear something super rude and offensive.

nicolerichie: I’ve been at the airport for hours. I’m so bored. I think I’m gonna prank call my mom

Sooo randomly amazing.

wishcake: I’ve decided that I love the expression “rise and shine”. I never really thought about it before.

Me either! But now that I have, I’ve decided that I love it too.

taylorswift13: Leno, Access Hollywood, Hannah Montana movie premiere. That’s 5 dresses in one day. I love it.

And I’ve decided that my new goal in life will be to have a five-dress-day.

micblonde: “Be the spark, especially when it’s dark.”

So apparently I sometimes favourite my own tweets. I love this little rule to live by.

laurenblonde: @ericablonde You can make those so easily! It’s just like felt isn’t it?

laurenblonde: @ericablonde omg. I’m mom.

This is funny if you know our mom – her favourite line is “I could make that!” She’s not all talk though – she does go on to make it!

kateblonde: Just spit on Scott while brushing my teeth next to him…sorry hunny! hahaha

I think my love for this tweet is partially how Katelyn spelled hunny (I’ve been spelling it that way ever since), and partially the pure silliness here.

johncmayer: I just voted on People’s “Is John Mayer a Keeper?” poll. I clicked “Love Him” but “Lose Him” is winning at 63%

Guess what I voted??? I love the ability make fun of themselves, in people.

johncmayer: paraphrasing Paltrow on People.com, truly love this line: “You don’t really get it, because if you did, you would like it.”

johncmayer: And I love it without a shred of irony, because it’s so honest. And it’s sort of how I feel more often than not. Isn’t that how we all feel?

Ahh. Yes. I feel like this about so many things – my husband’s intense dislike of John Mayer, for starters.

micblonde: Tipsy Kent: “Baaaabe… why am I so blessed?”

Don’t you love it when your significant other says just the perfect thing? I do, apparently.

leahblonde: loving her girls weekend! Sappy movie, check. Next up – Martinis and babysitting. Not necessarily in that order.

Ohh Leah. You make me laugh.

The end – hope you enjoyed my favourites as much as I do!

Three days of Micaela.

Just…. because!

(Also, only a couple of days left to enter Lauren’s giveaway!)

Sisterly connections and unbirthdays.

Thing number one:

While the premise of our blog is us as sisters, I’ve noticed that we write about our individual lives, which naturally include each other as our lives intersect and we see each other often, but never about our relationships with each other specifically. I imagine that people might find it hard to believe that we are actually friends and don’t all secretly dislike each other, because I’m sure I’d be thinking the same thing - five girls? How can they actually all get along?

Well, as any sister to a sister knows well, the sister connection goes much deeper than things like “getting along.” We do, and we don’t, and then we forget that we ever didn’t.

Sometimes, there are moments that make me appreciate the sister connection that much more, and this is one of them:

Leah was visiting Toronto today, and while I was at work she texted me saying:

“I am at the one size fits all store!” (this is a clothing store I was telling her about last week, saying nothing about it except everything in it was one size.)

I texted back: “There was only one thing I really liked there, a shirt with a big flower on the front.”

Leah shows up at my door wearing the shirt she bought, before I texted her saying that I liked it:

IMG_1576

Yes, we can go shopping in the biggest city in Canada, wind up in the same store, and fall in love with the same shirt. If that isn’t a sisterly connection, well then I don’t know what is!

Thing number two:

I walked into my living room after work today (while giving Leah a tour) to see this:

IMG_1578

I actually had to read the card that came with it in order to remember what the occasion was – turns out, it’s my unbirthday!

The summer Kent and I started dating, we worked at a camp and I wrote down my birthdate wrong on some form at some point- I wrote 08/11 instead of 11/08. So on August 11, everyone at the camp was wishing me a happy birthday and I was so confused!  Kent even had the camp baker bake me a little cake and gave it to me, after which I had to explain to him that it wasn’t my birthday at all.

You can’t really tell from this picture of a picture, but it was actually a little four layer cake. Impressive!:

IMG_1579

Funnily enough, all summer long we had been randomly singing the song from Alice in Wonderland: “A very merry unbirthday, to you, to you… etc.” So we were excited to actually be able to sing the song in context after determining that it must be my unbirthday.

Good job Kent, for remembering this little holiday.

And, the best part of the present? A little pre-emptive, but adorable nonetheless:

Things to look forward to

This evening (Thursday night) I am going to the airport, running onto an airplane, bouncing off the walls of said airplane for four hours, and sprinting off that plane into the arms of some people that I love as soon as we land.

My mind isn’t really thinking straight tonight, and likely won’t until I get to the farm, so this is going to be in bullet form. Here are some of the things I am looking forward to while in Ontario for 10 days:

-Standing in front of the fireplace in the kitchen at the farm. Even in the summer when it is sweltering, that fireplace is always the “water cooler” of our home (it’s where all the good gossip happens)
-Tim’s parents 25th anniversary party and his Dad’s 50th birthday party on Saturday
-Going to a birthday party in Grand Bend on Friday with all of my friends from University
-Micaela’s bachelorette shot luck on Saturday
-Laura’s husband’s birthday party on Sunday
-Going to Toronto to finally (finally!) meet Reggy
-Rubbing Kate’s pregnant belly! And finally getting to meet the Razzlebaby that I already love so, so, so much
-Being Mom’s slave for a few days
-Hanging out with two women who I love dearly and I hear make excellent bartenders
-Learning the result of a Very Good interview I had today
-Eating food from the Pub where I worked through University. Also known as Heaven and where most all of my money went while in school.
-Taking a plane with Tim for the first time
-The Time Traveler’s Wife movie opening

And there’s something else too … I just can’t remember quite what it is. I know that it takes place in Saturday, August 15th … but I just can’t remember what it is.

Oh yea! I have a couple of things to do. I told my Oma that I would help her wash her dog, and I thought it would be a good day to pick out my eyeglasses. I have some socks that I need to mend, and I think I will finally get a start on a puzzle I have been wanting to do for awhile. If it’s nice out, I will lay out with my strappiest bikini and get lots and lots of tan lines. I think it will be a good opportunity to take that day to myself, as I will be very overwhelmed from all of the visiting I will be doing that week. Phewph! What a day I have planned for myself. Oh, and I think I’ll catch the Time Traveler’s Wife while I’m at it.

Mic – what are you doing on the 15th? Wanna hang out?

(Je blague, je blague)

Blog Carnival

This post is a part of 20SB’s Looking Back Blog Carnival, and Ben & Jerry’s is awarding free ice cream to lucky bloggers and readers!

for more information, if you are confused.

This post is from November 18, 2003, when I was in grade 11, aged 15 turning 16 later in the month. The contest asks me to give readers an idea of what I was like when I started blogging, and my friends, this was me. Every single blog post I wrote contained approximately one hundred exclamation points, was 1/3 caps lock, and I was excited! about! EVERYTHING!@@#(!

Well I was having some trouble signing in to blog but I figured it out just as I was about to give up.

As you may have noticed from my sisters blogs, this weekend was CRAZY!! Absolutely insane!!
Friday – I went to A’s work and then we drove around to wait for the guy shes likes to finish work (she works with him) and then we “conveniently” passed by him while he was waiting for a bus to catch and we gave him a ride even though it was 100% the opposite direction from her house! oh boy. He thinks I am mental, I was so mad hyper@
After we went to S’s house cuz he was having a party and we stayed there for a bit then went to McDonalds with T and … someone else i really cannot remember who at the moment. Anyways. It was a very fun night. Then me and A we re talking on her webcam to her fridn T who thinks i am absolutly mental but it was SOOOO funny! It was right wicked. Then we went to the football game which ( :( SADLY) our school lost
:( It was all so upsetting, and a very close game. Good try boys.
Saturday night we were supposed to have a family night for erica but SINCE SHE NEVER CAME HOOOOOME we had one without her (we had one cuz it was going to be our last night together as a family). BUt she came home in time for dessert. (typical).
I have to go unload the dishwasher and pick somehting up at Stefs house but I will finish this extra long blog later.

To be continued …
much love, UGZ

Laugh away, my friends. But don’t make fun, because you know you all would have written a post exactly like this if you were a boy crazy 15 year old whose best friend had a car! Names altered to protect the innocent. Except Erica. Where were you Erica? Why didn’t you come home for your family dinner?

Love & Stress: A Screenplay

Scene One: Cooking with the “Culinary Master of Canada”, 5:00pm

Cut to Leah and Tim, romantically preparing an appetizer of coconut shrimp and a delectable-looking shrimp, garlic and white wine cream sauce complete with fresh pasta. Also, he has quartered a chicken and is making home-made chicken stock in the oven for a soup the following day. They are kissing, googly-eyed at each other and at one point Tim even says to her that she is the most wonderful, amazing and thoughtful girlfriend in the whole world. And he compliments her on her Nintendo skills  as he feeds [Read more...]

My Life in Photos

It takes awhile, but it’s worth it. Try your very best to find all of the pictures asked for… use facebook or the pictures stored on your computer. If you can’t find one, that’s okay, but leave all questions in the survey for others to find. Tag the people in your photos, and anyone you think may be interested in completing this. :)

1. A picture of you in your room.

Katelyn took this when her and I used to share a bed for a few months.

2. A picture of you posing with someone you don’t actually like.

la la la…

3. A picture with a former crush

He was friends with my friend Amanda and I met him on campus with her and thought he was awesome, and basically arranged it so that we became best friends, by telling him that I wanted to be his best friend. We went from not knowing each other to being best friends, and it worked out very well as you can see here! He had a long term girlfriend so our friendship never progressed past the proposal on the dance floor.

4. A picture of you very drunk.

We weren’t actually kissing, just opening our mouths really close to one another.

5. . A picture of you with a parent or two.

My and my momma dancing, years and years ago.

6. A picture of you on your birthday.

You can always tell the birthday girl because she’s the one with the horribly riding up shirt, and wearing a hat. You can always tell the boyfriend of the bday girl because he’s the one who was forced to drink right along with her and is probably off biting someone’s ear.

7. The youngest picture you can find of yourself in digital form.

8. A picture of you in one of your favorite outfits.

Lately I’m very into colourful dresses that have regular, thick straps.

9. A picture of you making a goofy face at the camera

mic funny face

10. A picture you miiiiiight have edited to make yourself more attractive.

Morning after Kate’s stag and doe… nuff said!

11. A picture of you and a team or club you’re in.

Katelyn and I making funny faces with our Brownies last year.

12. A picture of you showing off a new haircut (even if it’s an old haircut now)

I don’t know really if it was new! But I imagine we got our hair cut for family pictures.

13. A picture of you truly being yourself.

I’m a true Dutch girl.

14. The most recent picture of you.

This was taken last weekend at Erica’s bachelorette.

15. . A picture of you being absolutely ridiculous.

Shaving my legs for a talent show.

16. A photo that you are tagged in that you aren’t actually in.

Our friend Laura’s wedding.

17. A picture of a time in your life that’s over, but you wish it wasn’t.

Snowboarding with Leah in the mountains in February!

18. A picture of a time in your life that’s over, and you couldn’t be more thankful that it is

I do NOT miss climbing up a skinny hydro pole like structure (but much higher!) standing on a tiny plank, then jumping off into thin air at a camp last summer.

19. A picture with your oldest friend.

Michelle and I – best friends since grade one.

21. A picture of you when you were anything but happy, even if you were smiling and did your best to hide it.

Tequila shot on my last birthday. Tequila is NOT my friend.

22. A picture of you that you had no idea was being taken.

In class with all my teachers college friends last month. I’m in the green.

23. A picture of you when you were a different person than you are now.

.
This was Erica’s halloween costume when she was a kid, and I loved wearing it for Halloween a few years back.

24. A picture of you in a fashion “DON’T”.

(No offense mom! I’m sure it was cool at the time!)

25. A picture of you in a swimsuit – whether you love it or loathe it.

(love it)

26. A picture of you taking a shot / chugging a beer / downing some sort of mixed drink.

Not chugging.. just sipping.

27. A picture of yourself that you hate.

28. A picture of you with someone you love.

29. A picture of how you’d like the world to see you.

30. A picture that describes how you’d like to spend every day.

This was a perfect snowboarding day.

31. A picture of a time when everything was changing.

http://fiveblondes.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/4.jpg

The day we got engaged! (The pics are stuck together.) Can you tell the ring was a few sizes too big?

32. A picture that makes your heart hurt.

Our Opa passed away about ten years ago and we still miss him. And how cute are Erica and I, thinking that we’re being helpful, and the fact that I’m doing barn work in my little dress!

33. A picture that makes your heart smile.

Basically any pictures from when we were little make my heart smile.

34. . A picture of one of the best nights or days of your life.
