Anniversary Time!

October 27, 2007 was the day Scott and I got married! So today, October 27, 2008 we get to celebrate our FIRST anniversary as a married couple!   It was a great year, we went on our honeymoon to Costa Rica, got used to living with each other, laughed lots, and had lots of fun with friends and each other.  We are both excited to find out what’s in store for us in the future!

We don’t have much time to celebrate today, we are both working and tonight I have a Halloween party with the brownies.  We both decided (separately) that we should go out for ice cream after brownies. What can we say, great minds think alike.  We also plan on eating the top tier of our wedding cake!  So excited for that!

Sunday at the fair

My Sunday at the fair was a funny one. As usual I went to the community centre to help with the registration for the baby show that my aunt organizes.  Mic and I love signing up the parents and babies so we can see all the cuteness!  This year we knew a few babies so that makes it more exciting. Scott (my husband) came up and said he wanted to pre-register a baby, for 2012 (ummm we have to wait that long?)… haha funny boy.

We had one mom register that said something a bit odd, she didn’t want to go up with the baby (she also had a 2 year old with her), but wanted her sister-in-law to bring up her baby and her SIL’s baby!  And these babies were only 3 months old.  I asked the mom if she wanted me to look after the 2 year old, but she said no, she wanted to look after him… umm okay, if you think your SIL can handle 2 babies up there, then okay!  Then my aunt talked to her and offered me to go up with the baby… and she said yes!  I felt like a fraud walking up there (all these moms went through so much, and I get handed a baby and say, okay go on up), and it was pretty funny, considering it is a small town and I knew there would be lots of talk… ‘one of the blonde girls has a kid??’  It was especially funny when I was up sitting on the stage, next to a friend when I see Scott’s parents walk in.  I gave them a little wave and laughed, and had to wonder what they were thinking.

Then when I was up there I realized I didn’t know the babies name. Luckily I was sitting next to the babies aunt, so I sheepishly asked her… umm what is this babies name? Gosh I’m a bad mother!  It was quite the experience!   My aunt took a picture so if she sends it to me I’ll try and put it up… it probably looks pretty funny. At some fall fairs, the point of the baby show is to find the cutest baby in town. Not at ours! At our fair the judges award every baby with a prize based on their looks, outfit, or personality.”My” baby won the biggest flirt award!

After all that fun was over the rest of the day was pretty normal.. as usual I took more pictures and walked around with Scott’s parents and then met up with more friends to watch the demolition derby.

Thoughts

Lately I really feel like life is just passing by as I wait for it to get better. I’m not going to get into specifics about my job, but basically I’m not challenged and always feel unneeded in the office, where I work alone. I never in a million years would say that I’m a people person but I AM a person who relies on always having people around for company. I guess you could say that stemmed from growing up with 4 sisters and never being alone. During my day I come in contact with exactly 0 people. Unless I’m lucky and maybe 1 person comes in.. And so the job search continues and I am going stir crazy here.

I took a long lunch break outside today, sitting on the grass in the sunshine reading a book. I love sitting on grass, it’s so cushy and always smells so nice and fresh. I’m currently reading P.S. I Love You, it’s a good book, but so sad, and I’m such a sucker that I aways cry when reading sad books!Toes and River

Last night I got my 2nd ever pedicure! I had to warn the woman doing my pedicure that I am kind of ticklish, I’m slowly growing out of it, but some ticklishness still remains. Laura and I went at the same time, we sat in relaxing massaging chairs, got lower leg and feel massages, exfoliated, buffed and polished. I chose a cheery pink colour, which coincidentally matched the shirt I was wearing at the time, I didn’t notice until we had left! Here are some pictures of my pretty toes that I took at lunch. Sorry to those of you hate toes! I have reallllly long toes and big feet (I’m the shortest in the family but I have the biggest feet, how unfair!). The picture below doesn’t really show off the colour very well, apparently I’m bad at taking pictures of my feet.

After getting the pedicure Laura and I walked around the mall, while walking through The Bay (that’s the Hudson’s Bay Company for all you American folk) and I spritzed myself with a random perfume. Well let me tell you I think I am in love! It’s Coco Mademoiselle, and smells so yummy! I am wearing the same jacket I was last night while at the mall and I can’t stop smelling this one part of my jacket because it smells so good!

And my last thought: We finally will get to play baseball tonight! For once, it’s not raining on a Wednesday! On Wednesdays in our town there is ladies league softball! Mic and Lau and I all play on the same team, we are on the youngest team. We aren’t that great but we still have fun! For the past 3 Wednesday’s in a row it has rained and we have not gotten to play, I think today it is safe to say that we will be playing! I don’t see a cloud in the sky.

6 Non-important facts about Katelyn

This is the result of a Tag.. Mom tagged each one of us, this will be a challenge to see if each one of us does it.

Here are the Rules for this Topic:

*Link to the person who tagged you.

*Post the rules on your blog.

*Share six non-important things/habits/quirks about yourself.

1. I HATE doing nothing, give me even 1 day with nothing to do and I will be a mad and bored girl by the end of the day, I always have to find something to do.

2. I really don’t care if people call me Katelyn, Kate or Katie (though I rarely get called Katie, mostly only by my aunts). Whenever people meet me they normally ask what I go by, please don’t ask, call me what you want (as long as it’s nice).

3. On the names note, I LOVE it when people talking to me and say my name. I love it so much that when I talk to people I try to say their name because it always makes me feel special. It makes me feel like they actually care and want to talk to me.

4. I LOVE to drive. Whenever I go anywhere with my sister, I’m the driver, it’s one place where I like to be in charge. And trust me you do not want to be in a car with me if I’m not driving, I’m the worst backseat driver ever. Just any any of the other fiveblondes.

5. My ears crack, most people crack their knuckles, but I can crack my ears. And I love making other people hear it, I will press my ears near their ears and it goes crraaccckkk. Also my right thumb cracks, but thats it, no fingers. And on that ears topic my left ear has a small point on it, I think in one of my past lives I must have been an elf.

6. I am a hat ADDICT. I LOVE wearing hats, winter hats that is. I would wear one all day if I could, I love it when my head is warm. I wear them at work sometimes, but mostly on days when I think no one will come in because they will think I’m crazy.

Scrapbooking

I’ve always loved scrapbooking. I made my first one back in 2002 when Leah and I went to World Youth Day in Toronto. It was an amazing experience with teens from all over the world and I wanted to be able to remember it forever. So I scrapbooked it and still look at it now. And now I must admit, that is the only scrapbook I have ever made. I always get the intention to start one but then never do because it can get so darn costly! And then a few days ago I found Scrapblog an online scrapbooking site! So cool! I made a few pages, I’m just learning, but so far I think it’s totally neat!

My fiveblondes page:

And a wedding page that I made! With lots of random stuff on it, but I still love it!

So go and check it out! It’s a great time waster!

PS I’m in the works of making a honeymoon scrapbook (in real life, not online), when I get a few pages done I’ll share them because I’m lazy and never actually blogged about the wedding OR honeymoon!

Lend a Hand!

brownies.jpg

Micaela here… A few weeks ago I decided I needed more recent experience with kids if I want to apply for teachers college in a few months. So I told my mom I wanted to be a brownie leader. She happily informed me that there is a sign in our small town variety store saying that Thorndale DESPERATELY needed brownie leaders. I recruited my always helpful sister Katelyn, and a few hours later, not only were we brownie leaders… we were the ONLY brownie leaders and needed to plan an entire year of brownies all by ourselves. It is completely overwhelming and there is so much to know. We went to a “Safe Guide” meeting last week and got even more overwhelmed. At that meeting we also realized that we missed a crucial step along the way in which we need an interview, police check, reference check… I guess those things are pretty important when trusting your kids to (not so much because in Thorndale everyone knows everyone) strangers. So we have to have an old leader at our meeting tomorrow until we cover all that stuff on Wednesday. We aren’t really sure what we are doing but we are slowly learning and hopefully in a few weeks we’ll be experts. As of right now we have a huge box full of important information and definitely have not digested it all yet!

Our first meeting is tomorrow and we have it all planned out. It’s only an hour long so it should go according to plan! Cross your fingers… also cross your fingers that we don’t have to use any epi pens.

In other news… Katelyn just told me she has a drooling problem… stay tuned for some HOT wedding photos!

I think at the end of our blog we should choose the next person who is going update within the next couple days… I pick LEAH ANNE!!! Still anyone else can update before that though!

Stag and Doe happenings

So Scott and my stag and doe was on Saturday night, held in the family drive shed. We got ready all week, cleaning it out, stringing up lights, cementing the rest of the floor, and the boys made a stage (which looked amazing!). And after all that preparation I’d say the evening was worth it! It felt like Saturday dragged by waiting for the moment when people would start rolling into the driveway. And finally people started showing up! The band we hired, “Moovin’ Groovin’ and Verhoeven” started playing at around 9pm and everyone loved them. I had people coming up to me all night, saying that they loved the band. They played for a bunch of sets and in between we had used an Ipod to DJ the event. Not too many people danced at the beginning of the night, and I was a bit sad because I loved the band, but I think it was just because people were too busy catching up with one another. By the end of the night lots of people were dancing. My mom and sister decided that they wanted to dance on the bar (made out of straw bales and plywood), and many followed, such as Scott’s mom, sisters, bridesmaids, myself and Scott’s 12 year old cousin. Good times for sure.

Games we had were Nail Drive (the least amount of hits to get the nail in wins!), balloon darts (similar to the fair game, throw darts at the balloons and there are prizes behind), 50/50 tickets, and musical chairs! We had 2 games of musical chairs, the first game was played by the bridal party +mic and -Scott (because her refused to play. let alone be in the room when it was on), and the second game anyone else who wanted to play could.

We are thinking that a bit over 200 people showed up to party and we are so much more excited for the wedding now. Scott’s mom send me an email the next day that read ‘I’ve learned that our families party well together. This should make for a fantastic wedding party.’

Scott and I learned a few things from this party. That yes our family and friends do party together. And at the wedding we need to spend more time together. I think I saw Scott maybe five times throughout the evening, when the party got hopping. Also I need to make sure to talk to everyone at the wedding because there are so many people who were at the stag and doe that I did not get to talk to.

Ok enough talk! Here are a few of the tamer pictures from the event..

It’s Blog Day! Celebrate with the FiveBlondes

Blog Day 2007

Today, August 31st, is the third-annual Blog Day in the blogosphere. To join the celebration, bloggers are asked to post recommendations of 5 blogs with links and short descriptions. Five blogs…five blondes…is this day made for us or what?

Erica’s Nomination:

http://www.thesimpledollar.com/

Personal finance for the rest of us! I love the advice that you can find on personal finance blogs; here’s one of the go-to resources for everything related to money, investing, debt, and saving. Yesterday’s posts included an article on wedding etiquette – addressing issues such as being invited to weddings far away, and making it as economical as possible for out-of-towners to attend your own wedding. Great advice for us!

Micaela’s Nomination:

http://paigesix.blogspot.com/

Though she hasn’t posted much over the summer, PaigeSix has spent the last 3 years chronicling her life and experiences in university – and now in the working world. She never holds back and is a fantastic writer. She went to the same university that I did, and Mic used to ask me jokingly if I saw Paige Six today…

Katelyn’s Nomination:

http://www.dooce.com/

Katelyn first told me about this blog because she found it inspiring – something to model ours after. I find it very interesting – whether Heather is writing about or taking pictures of her dog (who can balance the most impressive items on his nose), her daughter (adorable!), or her extended family (Mormons), she never fails to interest or amuse!

Leah’s Nomination:

http://scottage-cheese.livejournal.com/

Since Leah is moving today and is too busy to participate, I’ve picked an old favorite of ours. Scott Loudoun, aka. Scottage Cheese, is a crazy guy in Victoria, BC who is also a talented photographer. He used to have this obsessive online fan base (check out some of his posts from 2005/2006 when he was getting comments numbering in the hundreds – 747 on one in particular) but he hasn’t updated his blog since May. His photography alone is worth the visit – there is literally days worth of reading and admiring to be done! I highly recommend reading this hilarious account of mistaken arrest in particular.

Lauren’s Nomination:

http://kjerstiwoods.livejournal.com/

This is a joint nomination from Micaela, Katelyn, and Lauren – cute pics of Kjersti’s family, among other subjects!

Photography

I love photography, as does the rest of my family. When we were younger mom would take lots of pictures of us, and even made us have photo shoots. These photos are really cute to look back on. I don’t think I’m alone when I say that it would be a really amazing job to be a photographer. Be it family, children, or wedding photography. You get to capture memories for people to remember and look back on for years and even generations later.

Finding a wedding photographer was a bit of a challenge. I’m fairly picky about what I wanted, but knew that we would not be able to afford the really amazing photographers out there. Most photographers these days have websites so you can easily look online to find a photographer and assess their work. I decided on our photographer after looking at her website, and meeting with her. I really liked the pictures and could see that she had a creative side, so it wasn’t all traditional photography. Also when we met with her she was very friendly and made me feel comfortable. Here are some examples of her work.. Brenda Coghlin

And once we got our engagement pictures back, I got really excited for the wedding photos!

Even though we have a photographer I can not stop looking at photography blogs. Mostly wedding photographer blogs. They are my guilty pleasure and really inspire me to try and start taking pictures like they do. Here are a few of my favorite ones, and no these photographers do NOT come cheap!
