Funny Daddy
I took this funny picture of our dad yesterday.

May 4th is his birthday! Happy birthday Dad!
Six Unimportant Facts about Lauren
Here are my six facts!
1) Before I started university I had never had Starbucks…like ever. But my roommate wanted me to go with her one day before class and I got a White Mocha, and needless to say, I never looked back.
2) I have ski raced for 12 out of the 18 years I’ve been alive at our local ski hill. Also 11 out of 12 of those years I won “High Points Female” on our team-that is the girl on the team who had the most points at the end of the season. Also at that hill I, along with 3 of the other fiveblondes ski/snowboard instructed, and I also coached a ski team of 10-12 year olds last year. I pretty much used to live there in the winter, and unfortunately I can’t this winter because I’m 6 hours away.
3) Two summers ago I worked in Minden for the Ministry of Natural Resources as an Ontario Junior Ranger. I stayed from July 1st until August 18th in cabins in the middle of nowhere with about 20 other girls. We did things like making hiking and cross-country ski trails, go on canoe trips and camping trips, and visiting the other camps around the province. It was a greaat summer and I’m still in touch with the girls I worked with.
4) I bite my fingernails. It’s horrible and I know, but I just can’t stop no matter how much I’ve tried. This past summer I stopped for a couple of weeks because I was cleaning bathrooms and thought it was pretty gross, haha. Even though I’ve started biting them since then, for some reason I still don’t bite my right pinky fingernail. Who knows why, I just don’t. Looking back to my Lent post, I always try to stop biting my fingernails for Lent, but I’ve recently realized that it doesn’t work, so I’ve given up giving that up.
5) I’ve never had a haircut that I’m really happy with. I always bring in pictures of what I want my bangs to look like, but it never looks like it. I try to explain how I want it different, but I’m really bad at it. I’ve decided that next time I’m going to just take charge and say “no. I want it exactly like THIS picture.” Probably going to be hard for me.
6) I love my big, manly, fat cat named Herman. He’s the cutest thing ever, but you would never think so to look at him. Recently when I was at home I walked in on Herman licking Dragon Baby’s (our other, younger cat) face. It was super cute, so I said “AWW boys!” and grabbed my camera, but all I got was this picture:

okay I have another one…
7) I LOOVE baking! Every time I come home for the week or weekend I bake something. When I went home for reading week I baked cookies at night, then when I woke up they were gone
. D (Ericas fiance) got a cookbook for christmas from Oma, and I saw cakes in it that I reallly want to make someday. Something like this maybe? haha: It’s a Louis Vuitton purse cake! There are my six facts! Sorry they’re so late by the way. I couldn’t think of any, then the formatting kept messing up. I should probably learn how to fix all that eh?
Project Runway News!
This is for mom, about Project Runway and Sarah Jessica Parker…

It’s instant gratification for “Project Runway” fans: A version of Victorya Hong’s winning dress from Wednesday’s episode will be available for sale as early as Friday.
The dress is being offered as part of Sarah Jessica Parker’s Bitten line, sold at Steve & Barry’s stores nationwide. The “Sex and the City” star was the week’s guest judge on the Bravo reality show about fashion.
The challenge put to the aspiring designer contestants was to create an outfit appropriate for Parker’s casual sportswear collection, known for its cheap pricing compared with other celebrity clothing lines.
The Bitten interpretation of the dress will be offered in black or burgundy for $19.98, and the vest that goes with it will come in gray or black for $14.98.
“I loved Victorya’s design immediately when I saw it during my appearance on ‘Project Runway,’” Parker said in a statement.
Hong’s original dress will be on display at Steve & Barry’s flagship Manhattan store for several weeks.
Tunnels…
Okay, so at Carleton there is a tunnel system that has apparently won awards in magazines. I’ve been in these tunnels and frankly I hate them. They smell, are humid, and are really busy on rainy days when my friends force me to walk with them because they don’t want to face the “horrible, cold wind and rain”. I like rain, usually my classes are hot anyways, so it’s nice to get outside and feel cool before going into those crowded hot theatres. There are also these annoying little cars that drive around in the tunnels with workers on them. Think Austin Powers when he gets stuck trying to turn around and has to reverse and go forward and can’t do it. Anyways, I found a piece on the tunnel system on Wikipedia, so here it is:
*The entire University is connected by an elaborate five kilometre network of heated(thats the bad part) underground tunnels adorned with murals created by student groups. Students are encouraged, within reason, to create their own works of art.(usually they’re vandalized anways) Each floor of the nine residence halls paint a tunnel mural near the end of each school year. It is not uncommon to see students wearing pajamas in class, having come directly from bed in residence. Sky-lit or windowed student lounges and snack-shops can be found at various points along the tunnel system.(I think this is a lie. Haven’t seen it yet) Students often hold competitions to determine who can remain “submerged” in tunnel-life (that is, moving about using only the tunnel system), especially during the frigid winter months.*
Okay, so…
1)Its not a good thing to stay out of the sun for too long. Vitamin D deficiency causes rickets(softening of the bones in children potentially leading to fractures and deformity), and even Seasonal Affective Disorder(a sort of depression that happens between September and April when the days become shorter and there are less hours of daylight in a day).
and 2) It’s not nice to see people in class with their pajamas. It’s just ugly.
So I guess the point of this was to encourage myself to get some good winter boots, and an umbrella!…and find my black Old Navy jacket at home. Has anyone seen it?
Lauren
Downhill…?
Ladies. We’ve gone significantly downhill in our views. EIGHT today. eight! So I’ve decided to come out of my hiding place and write a blog… I have my first midterm tomorrow in Psychology! I’ve been studying nonstop for hourrrs today, so I need a break! In other news, I’ve added the WordPress Application on Facebook, so maybe we’ll get some viewers from “carletoncanada.facebook.com” in our stats!
hmm what to tag this as…I put answers because maybe someone will give me the answers to my psychology midterm….
I’m coming home next weekend! Is anyone more excited than I am? Didn’t think so!
Kate, if you are in need of really nice looking furniture for your house I am more than willing to provide you with a nice shelf, a very useful desk, a beautiful nightstand(which I actually hit my head on once in a while) and a squeeky bed! Great fun!

It’s Blog Day! Celebrate with the FiveBlondes
Today, August 31st, is the third-annual Blog Day in the blogosphere. To join the celebration, bloggers are asked to post recommendations of 5 blogs with links and short descriptions. Five blogs…five blondes…is this day made for us or what?
Erica’s Nomination:
http://www.thesimpledollar.com/
Personal finance for the rest of us! I love the advice that you can find on personal finance blogs; here’s one of the go-to resources for everything related to money, investing, debt, and saving. Yesterday’s posts included an article on wedding etiquette – addressing issues such as being invited to weddings far away, and making it as economical as possible for out-of-towners to attend your own wedding. Great advice for us!
Micaela’s Nomination:
Though she hasn’t posted much over the summer, PaigeSix has spent the last 3 years chronicling her life and experiences in university – and now in the working world. She never holds back and is a fantastic writer. She went to the same university that I did, and Mic used to ask me jokingly if I saw Paige Six today…
Katelyn’s Nomination:
Katelyn first told me about this blog because she found it inspiring – something to model ours after. I find it very interesting – whether Heather is writing about or taking pictures of her dog (who can balance the most impressive items on his nose), her daughter (adorable!), or her extended family (Mormons), she never fails to interest or amuse!
Leah’s Nomination:
http://scottage-cheese.livejournal.com/
Since Leah is moving today and is too busy to participate, I’ve picked an old favorite of ours. Scott Loudoun, aka. Scottage Cheese, is a crazy guy in Victoria, BC who is also a talented photographer. He used to have this obsessive online fan base (check out some of his posts from 2005/2006 when he was getting comments numbering in the hundreds – 747 on one in particular) but he hasn’t updated his blog since May. His photography alone is worth the visit – there is literally days worth of reading and admiring to be done! I highly recommend reading this hilarious account of mistaken arrest in particular.
Lauren’s Nomination:

This is a joint nomination from Micaela, Katelyn, and Lauren – cute pics of Kjersti’s family, among other subjects!
This is your life, I get copied keys
This week has been such a big week for us. These coming weeks will also hold big changes for this family. Erica getting engaged, me leaving to go to university, Kent moving away (again). It seems every time he comes over he is permanently here for a couple weeks, then disappears.
So now that I’m going away it will be hard for me to live vicariously through my sisters. It seems that I am always a third wheel in their relationships, and I’d have to say I’m pretty okay with it…the boyfriends may not be, but thats alright. Having just spent a “weekend” away camping with two of my best friends who are going back to high school for another year has made me think about keeping these friendships when I go away. I think I’ll try, but seeing as how I get jealous easily, I’ll see how much time they spend together and most likely get disappointed or something.
Lauren!
Helloo, I’m Lauren, the youngest sister(hence the “lilsister” name). I’m 18, and not very good at “blogging” at all. I’ve just graduated grade 12, and I’m going to Carleton in Ottawa in almost exactly a month! As Mic was telling me earlier, “having facebook totally changes the whole starting university experience.” SO true. I already know about 15 people in my residence and probably more in my program. (yeaaa just saw my high school on tv!….behind the gay pride parade in london on the news!) Anyways, this is definately not where I saw myself at this time last year. At this time last year I was living in a cabin in the middle of nowhere with 25 other girls. I was planning on taking a year off, either to work, go back to high school or travel, but for some reason I didn’t want to go to university yet…that is until I received my acceptance letter! Up until the day I got the letter I had planned to go to BC to work at Panorama from July until October, then work the rest of the year. When I got my letter I realized that I just wanted to get my life started and start my education.
Alright, enough with this for tonight, I work at 8 tomorrow morning then have my staff party!(trailer park themed of course…)
Lauren
