31 weeks

31 weeks and exactly 2 months left! Feeling pretty good this week, well except for yesterday morning when I made the mistake of looking at food and the next thing I knew I was puking in the sink.  Grosssss.  This morning I took the glocuse tolerance test. It really tasted like orange pop and wasn’t that bad until I got to the bottom and it felt like my throat was burning.  I finished it all though!  I got my blood taken at the lab at the hospital and then had my doctors appointment. Where I waited for an hour, which didn’t impress me, or Scott.  We found out that I gained about 3 pounds since my last appointment (total of about 18 pounds gained now).  Raspberry’s heartbeat was 130-135 and my belly measured 29 (supposed to be 31, but the doctor was not worried).  The doctor also said baby is head down, so lets hope raspbaby stays that way!

On Sunday I attended my friend Laura’s baby shower- We are due about 2.5 weeks apart! And it got me really excited for cute baby things!

The shower cake, made by her sister Allison.

Other fiveblondes were there too!

30 Weeks!!

Another post by Kate and another baby post, surprise surprise!

30 weeks~ that means I’m 3/4 through this pregnancy!!

This week the baby is still moving like crazy!  Sometimes the feelings are really intense and get uncomfortable, like an elbow sticking into my belly. It’s almost like the baby thinks my belly is an egg that it can crack to get out sooner and is trying with all its might to crack me. But really it’s just because the baby is getting bigger and room is not at a premium anymore!

I took this photo on Thursday night: 30 weeks + 3 days

The pregnancy book I have told me to read ahead to the labor and delivery chapter, which freaked me out a bit.  But made sense, I guess I won’t have time to be reading a book about it when I’m experiencing it!

This week I have really noticed that I’m really exhausted at the end of the day.  It’s probably my body telling me that I need to slow down, but there’s just no time for that.  I’m the one who needs to keep people working in the lab at work, and because I’d rather be outside combining, the only way that is possible is to come in work early, or work like crazy to build up lots of tasks for people in the lab so I can get outside!  It’s getting tiring though.  I get to combine on Saturday, so I’m looking forward to that, and we have a great weekend planned after that!

Last weekend Erica and D came over and we started painting the baby room. I choose a Behr paint called Oakwood Brown. I took some photos of the progress but will wait to post them here until the painting is complete. It’s a darker brown then I originally thought, but I really like it.

Yesterday Scott’s parents purchased us a baby/Christmas present… they bought us our stroller/car seat!  It was a hard decision but ultimately this is what I fell in love with and just couldn’t get it out of my mind.  Another thing that basically sold it was how small it folds up.  I drive a Chevy Cobalt and the opening to the trunk is really small and this stroller fits inside fairly easily.

This is what we picked out:

A green ‘Stroll-air

stroll air

It comes with so many accessories it really was hard to say no! It includes:

  • aluminum frame
  • stroller seat with hood
  • bassinette with mattress and hood
  • wind cover
  • diaper bag with changing pad (probably going to be Scott’s because it’s black and I want a cute one!)
  • umbrella
  • shopping basket for under
  • mosquito net
  • rain cover
  • tire pump (back wheels are air filled)
  • infant cat seat adapter

red stroll air

And the car seat that we got with it is the Peg Perego Black Tie, I love the white stitching on the black seat.

Anyone have any experience with the Stroll-Air Zoom stroller? I’m really looking forward to using it and the car seat, January better hurry up and get here!

67 DAYS!

29 Weeks

So I’m a little bit embarrassed of this weeks photos, because I’m wearing the exact same outfit as last week!! I should start looking at last weeks photo before I take a new one.

So there you go, there’s my belly at 29 weeks.  I went out and bought a few maternity tops from Old Navy that were on sale,  as well as 2 maternity tank tops.  I’m finding that I need the length in the front now.  At work last week I was having a case of the lower belly showing a bit and it was driving me crazy!

How I’m feeling: Overall pretty good. Well other then the acid reflux/heartburn thinger that keeps happening to me.  I need to learn to eat smaller meals, but I can’t help it because I’m always so hungry!  I think that it being halloween really didn’t help because I’ve been eating candy like it’s my job.  I can just picture the numbers on the scale go up and up and up.  At work today someone commented that I never complain about my pregnancy.  They must never read this blog because I feel like all I do is complain! You guys must think I HATE being pregnant, but I think I’m finally growing  (no pun intended) to like it.

On Wednesday Scott and I get to go to the hospital to meet our delivery doctor.  So I’ll have to remember to write about that next time.

In the comments last week I was asked 2 questions.

1. Do your normal pants still fit?  I have one pair that I still wear regularly, I haven’t tried the others in about a week just because I’m much more comfortable in maternity pants.

2. Is your innie still in? Yes! When I lay down it gets close to popping, but it’s still an innie when I stand up.

This week we got a glider. My aunt & Oma got a new chair for their living room and didn’t have room for their glider so they gave it to me! So far Chase (the cat) owns it. He’s always either sitting on the chair, or on the footstool. Come January he’s going to be kicked right out.

So that’s my kick off to Nanoblomo. I’ll try to not make all my posts about pregnancy, but that’s really all that consumes my life.

How I’m feeling: Still getting the right side rib pains, I just try and stretch my right arm above my head lots and tend to hold my right ribs, which my co-worker tells me makes me look really pregnant.  I have also been experiencing horrible leg and foot cramps when I sleep.  I got on Friday night in my right calf and I could hardly walk on Saturday morning.

This week the baby is just kicking up a storm, morning, noon and night.  It must be very flexible, or just really likes kicking and punching because I feel kicks on both sides of my stomach at the same time.

Highlight of the week: Seeing Mic’s face as she felt the baby kick for the first time.

Saturday I had a fun day of shopping with mom and Lauren. We bought the fabric for curtains and a bed skirt.  I also bought 2 shirts from Winners, not maternity shirts but shirts that will work as maternity shirts for the next while, at least until I get huge.  I’m wearing one in the photo you see above!

This week we finished our prenatal classes. Overall I would say that the classes were helpful to go to, they gave us an overview of what to expect from conception (still not sure why we learn this, considering we were all already pregnant) through labor to baby’s first year.  However I am very happy to have my Thursday’s back in my life!  Scott and I need to get rolling on the nursery, next on my list is to decide on a paint colour and get it painted.

I made my 2nd trimester belly collage, it’s neat how you can see it progress!

2nd trimester

October 27th marks our 2nd wedding anniversay! It’s amazing that 2 years has passed by just like that!  I asked Scott what his favourite part of the last 2 years was and he said the being pregnant part. Guess the first year and a half sucked for him, haha.  We celebrated by going out for dinner on the 26th because Scott will be combining corn until pretty late on our actual anniversary. That’s what we get for having a fall wedding!

27 Weeks

Every weekly update post I write I almost start with “Holy cow! I can’t believe I’m ___ many weeks already!“  And it is totally a valid thought each week.  The 2nd trimester flew by and now that I’m into the 3rd I feel like I’m on the home stretch, even though I’m sure this trimester will feel like the longest one.  We only have  about 13 weeks to go, assuming raspbaby arrives on his due date.  After harvest is done (about mid November), Christmas will be next, my friend Laura will have her baby and then it will be my turn. I know it is going to fly by.

Aches and Pains this week: I have started to get rib pains, only on my right side though.  I’ve also been getting really bad foot cramps! I got one really badly in bed the other night and I was like “Okay Katelyn breathe!” Then after it stopped hurting I was like “ummm Scott it’s your job to remind me to breathe through pain, so next time you better remind me…  because I’m sure next time the pain will be even worse!”  Also I’m getting a cold! Scott had one last week, his came and went and I thought I was safe, until I woke up yesterday with a sore throat, and today with a sore throat and stuffy nose.  What is safe to take when you are pregnant? Anything?

Baby things! We went to Port Huron on Friday/Saturday for baby shopping.  On Friday we walked around the outlets at Birch Run but all we got there was a jacket for Scott, some baby books and 1 shirt + 1 dress from Old Navy for me.  So basically it was a bit of a waste of time, plus it’s so exhausting to walk around at outlets.  We oogled all the baby clothes, but didn’t get anything.

Saturday we met up with my in laws in Port Huron for some breakfast and then we hit the malls! We ran from Toys-r-us, Target, Sears, Meijer and WalMart.  We compared prices with the Canadian sears booklet that we had with all the baby items you could want and scooped out the best deals.  Our overall best deal was a baby mattress. We went shopping with no clue how to buy a mattress and decided that a middle of the line one would probably work fine, settling on a $77 mattress. When we got home I looked up the mattress on the Babies-r-us Canadian website and found that here it is sold for $140! Score for us.  We also bought a pack and play (different pattern then the one shown below), swing, highchair and baby carrier.  We haven’t totaled yet how much we saved yet but I would guestimate around $250.  This is not to say that I don’t support Canada and buy things here. I love buying local, and think that it’s important to support the Canadian economy but when prices can vary so much over the border, that I don’t support.

At 27 weeks baby is still the size of an eggplant,  raspbaby is practicing breathing now and blinking his eyes.

I’m totally wearing the same shirt I was last week in my belly photo and didn’t realize until I had it uploaded to Flickr.  It’s a really comfy shirt, made by mom! And I have 2 more coming my way soon.  So below is my 27 week photo and there is a bare belly shot on Flickr if you care to see.

Baby Bump week 27

Scare of the week: I totally thought I lost my belly button. I was laying down in bed, looked down at my belly and saw the end of my belly button!  It didn’t pop yet but it sure is close. I can turn it inside out now, which is insane. My belly button used to be so deep, poor little belly button..

ALSO there is still time to enter Lauren’s Headband giveaway! Odds are really good right now…. so make sure to enter!

26 Weeks

This is the week I decided that instead of actually telling people how I feel, I will tell them that I feel pregnant. That about sums it up. Basically that means a combo of feeling tired and uncomfortable. I actually told someone this week that I felt good, and for the next 2 days (so far..) I got kicked in the butt for saying that… (aka puking in the morning). That’s why I decided on the I feel pregnant comment.

I also decided this week that I have an ugly baby belly.  It’s just weird and flat and not very cute! I don’t mind looking at it from the front but these side shots with my shirt up looks WEIRD!  Seems like this was the week of decisions for me.  (Ps notice those pants, totally not maternity, what’s up with my pants still fitting? I think I’m going to stop wearing them soon though, just because really, when else do I get a good excuse to wear stretchy top jeans?)

On Friday & Saturday Scott and I are going shopping in the states! We are going to Michigan. The reason for our trip is to go out for dinner on Saturday for my father in  law’s birthday, and we decided to make it into a baby shopping trip.  We have 1 thing for sure that we want to get (we think). This dresser from IKEA, which is $100 CHEAPER in the states. Who makes these prices? It’s just not fair.

dresser ikea

Other then the IKEA stop, we want to check Babies-R-Us, Target and all the other goodness that the US has to offer.  I also hope to buy a few pieces of maternity clothing.

So does anyone have some good suggestions for stores to go to-  for baby stuff and maternity clothes. Please and Thanks!

25 Weeks

Things are a changing!

-I got my first sort-of-stranger pregnant comment-”hey, is that a baby bump?”, as she was rubbing my belly, good thing it was! Or that could have been awkward.

-Plus all week people at work have been saying “Wow Katelyn you are growing!”  Now even when I wear a big sweatshirt you can still see the bump.  However, wonder of all wonders I still fit in all my pre-pregnancy jeans.  Go me!

-Scott saw someone look at my belly while we were shopping. That means it’s big enough for people to be noticing, it seems to get bigger every day.

-We bought a crib off kijiji.ca!  We only paid $40 for it, it’s not really pretty or fancy or anything and I think we might give it a good coat of paint but it’s a crib and it’ll work!  Below is a photo of the crib in the future nursery.. we still plan on painting the nursery because I’m not crazy about the colour in there.   Now we just need to work on getting the rest of the furniture for the nursery.  We’re going to the states in 2 weekends (Well in about 1 week now, because I slacked and posted this late) to check out baby stuff there, so hopefully we can find a good deal somewhere!

003

-Puking is still happening on and off during the week. It still sucks that I’m puking but I’ll take on and off puking rather then every day puking!  Currently it’s more off then on, but I still always feel sick in the morning.  In Prenatal classes the instructor has told us that those of us that were more nauseated in the first bit of pregnancy will experience nausea during labour.  Yay, one more thing to look forward to, to add to the pain.

-I really need to start dressing nicer for my weekly photos, so I can actually stand to look at them.  Plus I hate photos with flash but I don’t think I’m ever home when it’s light out. We leave before the sun and don’t get settled at home until after the sun sets, especially because it sets so early now.  Please excuse the vacant expression… I’m exhausted after walking the fields at work all day!

-I finally made a 1st trimester photo collage.I’ll make the next one after I’m out of the 2nd trimester, there’s going to be a much larger change in the belly for the next set!

24 weeks

24 weeks is also known as viability week, from this point on if raspberry were born early he or she has a greater chance for survival every day!  But raspberry better not get any ideas, I plan on keeping him growing in my belly at least until January!  By the end of this week raspberry could weigh up to a pound.  Week 21-24 baby is the size of a Papaya (up to 11.8 inches long by the end of week 24).  I’ve been feeling more and more kicks every day, and I still never get over how amazing of a feeling it is.  Whenever I’m laying down on the couch I always have my shirt folded up over my belly and place my hands and just wait for kicks, I must look crazy to Scott  but it’s really cool!   Also every week I get closer to losing my belly button. I started out with a very deep belly button, and now I can easily see (and poke) the bottom of it. The end is nearing…

So how have I been feeling?  I had a week off from puking, which was great. I still felt sick every morning, but as long as I can ignore it until I leave the house for work I can go without puking.  This weekend hasn’t been so great though. The puking returned and I just never felt 100%.

I really thought I would LOVE pregnancy, that I would love being pregnant and growing a big belly and everything that comes with it. But it really tires me out.  It’s not that I hate it, but I’m finding that even though my belly isn’t that big yet I already feel uncomfortable when I sleep and I’m very tired by the end of the day.  Also I must have forgot about the fact that I hate attention, and growing a belly you get more attention then you could want!  Every day people ask you how you are feeling (and I always answer honestly, even if they don’t want to hear it and some rub your belly (which I love- as long as it’s from people I know).

Last Thurday Scott and I started our pre-natal classes in London.  We have a great teacher from the health unit and the class is made up of about 8 other couples who all seem really nice (especially Laura and Matt, our friends who are in the class who we KNOW are nice).  We will learn about a variety of topics.  On Thursday we tried out different breathing techniques for dealing with pain, we all got ice cubes to hold and we had to squeeze them and deal with the pain of our numbing hands.  It was a good way to induce some pain, without actually hurting ourselves to try techniques.

I’m not wearing my maternity clothes yet.  My jeans are getting a bit tight (but not uncomfortable), so I should try out the belly band that mom made for me. I also still need to look for more shirts, I’m so sick of all my clothes, and this pregnancy is a great excuse for more… shopping anyone?

Here is my 23 (top) & 24 (bottom) week photos:

22 weeks

I’m pretty sure it’s official. My belly has popped.

The popping of the belly has always been something I never really believed happened during pregnancy. People would say, ‘oh my belly popped at week __’ and I would think ummm probably not. I just thought it would gradually grow and slowly you make your way to a full 40 week belly that looks both huge and adorable at the same time. Nope, it happened. I noticed it yesterday at a friends wedding. I was wearing a dress and thought ‘holy, my belly looks huge! (for a 21 +5 week belly)’ but when I got home and took off the dress I was like ‘holy cow! My belly IS huge!’ (Although I do think that when you wear dresses it does really make the belly look a bit bigger then it actually is) And even today, wearing jeans I could notice it.

21 weeks + 5 days- going to a friends wedding!

21 weeks + 5 days- going to a friend's wedding!

I’m still wearing all my normal clothes, jeans are feeling a bit tighter but overall still fine. I’m going to have to start searching for longer shirts soon, but really don’t want to have to get them from a maternity store because I just feel really young in those stores, even though I’m not that young. Good thing mom is making me a maternity wardrobe, to go along with whatever I buy. Puking is becoming more sporadic. I’m on a 4 day no puke run currently. Although there were about 3 different times today when I actually ran to the bathroom because I thought something was coming up. I have started having to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night again, which I very much dislike! It really ruins your sleep. I found out at the doctors on Thursday that I finally gained weight. About 8 pounds I think. My Oma told me today that she gained about 25 pounds with her pregnancy’s and then quickly lost it after, so hopefully I have her genes!

And for the best part of my past 2 weeks- The baby kicks! I’ve been feeling it more and more and noticed the other day that I could see the kicks from the outside as well as feeling them. Scott felt a little kick the other day, but because it’s so sporadic he hasn’t really felt a big kick yet. And as I type this the baby is kicking me! Such a cool feeling. The kicks are always really low like 2-3 inches below my belly button, which is probably why I can feel them because if it was kicking higher I wouldn’t feel it because the placenta would be in the way.

Mr. Kate (I’m adopting this name from Leah’s Mr. Leah because I think it’s adorable) and I went looking at nursery furniture on Sunday. Everything is so expensive! I really don’t want to have to pay $500 for a crib, WITHOUT the mattress. And it’s great that most cribs convert from a crib, to day bed, to double bed but really we don’t want that because by the time the first kid is ready for a bigger bed there will probably be another one on the way. So we are going to keep searching, I know we will find the perfect set, someday…

Almost 21 weeks here, taken at the beach while camping!

Robert Kaufman -about town

This is the fabric that we are thinking about using for the nursery. It’s not too girly, and not boyish either. If we use that I think we’ll also paint the walls the green colour and use some other blue, green and yellow solid and gingham fabrics as well.

While I do love that fabric there is so much out there, here are some other ones that I saved while looking for inspiration…

126 days to go!

20 WEEKS!

Wow, I can’t believe I am writing 20 weeks already (well 20 weeks+3 days now)…  I wouldn’t say that time is flying by, but it is going pretty quickly.  And  if the next 20 weeks go by as quickly as the first 20 weeks, January will be here in no time.

I don’t really have too much to update you with, still puking, still always hungry, still look at food and decide I’m not hungry.  I thought the 2nd trimester was supposed to be the best, but as of right now I’m really looking forward to the 3rd trimester.  Hopefully a change in trimesters will do me good.

The baby (and baby belly) is growing quickly now! Each night before I go to bed I just stare at it in the mirror because it’s getting bigger, and it’s weird to get used to.  I already forget what I looked like before the belly started growing and that scares me. However we (raspberry and I) still have lots of growing to do!

Photos:

The above 2 photos were taken within 2 hours of each other… oh how the bump changes with clothing changes!

And a front shot because I haven’t done any of these yet.
