100 Things About Leah

Leah! As you've never seen her before...

1. I live in Calgary, Alberta. I moved from Guelph, Ontario in May.

2. I work in social work, although I am not a social worker and never will be.

3. I work with mental health and some days I think dealing with my clients will make me go crazy. It happened today. They drove me crazy, and now I have problems

4. I feel bad for you, because if all of us do this then you will have to read 500 things about Five Blondes.

5. I am “living in sin” with my boyfriend, and despite my Catholic family and Catholic upbringing, my entire family is okay with it. Even my grandparents – thank you!

Not my destiny

Let me tell you a bit about my blogging process.  You’re dying to know, I can feel it.

This morning I got to work and thought to myself, Self, you should blog today.  So I opened up Admin and clicked “New Post” with no particular subject in mind. That was, oh, 10AM.

It’s now 4:30 and I’ve made pretty much zero progress, except to write about how little progress I’ve made.

So I’m going to close with this (as I obviously was not destined to write a full post today):

We were delighted and honored to be nominated for the 20-Something Bootleg award for Best Group Blog :)   If you nominated us, we thank you.  Now there’s the matter of winning (we are nothing if not competitive).

We have some items that we have been planning on holding a giveaway for.  So if we win, we will give away these fantastical eletronic items (and likely other some other equally fantastical things) to the wonderful readers of our blog.  And if we don’t win, well, we’ll give them away anyways – we’re just that happy to be nominated :D

You need to be a member of the 20 Something Bloggers group to be eligible to vote – so naturally you need to be a 20-something and you need to be a blogger.  If you’re not either of these things, we won’t hold it against you ;)

Vote!

Aaaand, let’s make this a “questions” post.  Have any questions for any (or all) of us?  Ever wondered if we secretly hate each other?  Which one of us is the “black sheep”?  Who’s the easiest to share a room with?  Ask away!

When is a good deed really a good deed?

Tim (on his birthday last week): I did a good deed today.

Leah: I’m so proud of you!

Tim: I bought a bum a beer.

Leah: Oh…

Tim: He said it was his birthday too and I told him that if he could prove it then I would buy him a beer. He showed me his ID, so I really had no choice.

Leah: Celebrating birthdays, one bum at a time.

Would you have bought the bum a beer on his birthday? What about a joint? What about a crack rock? Is there really a difference if each of which is feeding an unhealthy addiction?

(Just for the record, I would have bought the bum a beer too.)

What are you thankful for?

It’s Thanksgiving weekend!

I know that four of the blondes are having a fabulous Thanksgiving weekend so far – we’ve already enjoyed lots of turkey and family time and there is lots more to come tomorrow and Monday. Well Katelyn was at a wedding today, but she’ll be joining us tomorrow. But there is one thing missing from our holiday… can you guess what it is?

Yep, it’s these two beauties, our sister Leah and her boyfriend Tim. Holidays are always the hardest part of being far from home in my experience. For those back at home, holidays are the time that you miss those that are far away the most. I am thankful that they’ve found some people out there that love them to spend their holiday weekend with.

I was looking at my friend and her fiance’s wedding website and found a quote that I really liked.

“Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being “in love” which any of us can convince ourselves we are.

Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Your mother and I had it, we had roots that grew towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossom had fallen from our branches we found that we were one tree and not two.

- Captain Corelli’s Mandolin. “Love is the beauty of the soul.”

Beautiful, no? I am also very thankful for all the love I have in my life. And that’s a lot.

Whether it’s Thanksgiving where you are or not, what are you thankful for?

What would you change about your cell phone plan?

I have found this really cool website that has been created  by a company in Canada that will be starting to provide cell phone plans. The way they have chosen to do their research is interesting – by opening up an online forum called “Wireless Soapbox” as a way for people to get their likes, dislikes and ideas concerning their current cell phone plan, and offer input as to what they would like to see in an ideal cell phone plan.

Think there’s a better way to do wireless?

Welcome to the Wireless Soapbox, a forum for people who believe that cellular can be done better. Have a complaint? Air it. Have an idea? Share it. Ask a question. Start a discussion. Whatever… it’s up to you. Choose a topic and get involved.

Whan an innovative way to do research! Essentially, their only expense was to create this website, it was advertised via ways of media interest, and pay a couple people to monitor it and BOOM – you have loads of free informtation coming at you right from the consumers themselves.

I, currently, have not yet contributed to it as I have not put a lot of thought towards what I like and don’t like about my cell phone plan. A popular topic I have noticed is the “system activation fee” and how people don’t like to see it on their bill every month, they would like to have it dissolved into their other fees. I agree with that one, I am charged $6.75 (or so) every month by my current provider, but that seems like something that should be included with my $25/month plan!

Would you contribute to this website (even if you aren’t Canadian) to get your ideas across? Canadians, this is your way to get the cell phone plan you really want. I am so intrigued to see what ideas and plans do come out of this Wireless Soapbox!

Thank you cards

So now that we have Internet at home I have no excuse for not blogging about our wedding and honeymoon right? WRONG! I am just so busy. Tonight I was serving at mens night, where Scott is currently getting his drink on and I have to go pick up his drunk butt later. Hopefully he does not call too late, and if it is late hopefully he just manages to get a ride from someone else.

So the purpose of this post is to get some help figuring out what to do for a thank-you card. I want to make a picture into a card, and you can get this done pretty cheaply from snapfish.com ($0.35 / card and there’s many coupon codes!). However I need your help deciding what image and what layout to use!

Snapfish has lots of layouts, however for what I am doing I really only like 1 layout. The card can be horizontal or vertical. I like both layouts, it basically just depends on the picture we choose.

So we have the option to use that layout and put 1 picture in the frame.

Another option is to find a place that lets you upload your own photo to the whole front of the card, and make a collage of a few pictures for it (or use the pretty collage that Brenda made for us! not sure about the kissy part). How come pictures always look grainy when I put them on? And my face looks to be an odd colour?

Okay I know the following photos are not us, I’m using them for the idea, and because I don’t have a good photo editor at home. Just picture our faces on the bodies..

I love the simplicity of the one below. 1 picture and then Thank you. Maybe I should just go the simple route and do that.

So… any HELP!?!

EDIT: With your suggestions I have made this for you:

Likey? I was unsure of where to place the thankyou.

When are YOU getting engaged?

I haven’t written for a while but I have a good reason! The password that wordpress gave me was in a notebook in my bedroom, which is upstairs… and all the computers are downstairs. Not that I’m lazy but it always seemed like something that could wait. Until now I guess!!

As you can see there are now two engaged blondes! And now I get to spend the next who knows how long fielding the question “When are YOU getting engaged?” Since I am going back to school and Kent wants to go back too, I don’t feel the need to get engaged ANY TIME soon. I am just enjoying him being home, and living near me for once! I’ll see how married life goes for my sisters then decide if I want that life!

I’m getting the “ten minute” warning from Kate that we have to leave for baseball. I don’t really have anything else in my mind to blog about anyways, so I’m gonna go get ready to go.

My Ideal Job

Since graduating University and realizing that the job I now work in is not at all where I see myself in the future I find people asking me more and more what my ideal job is. So here’s the catch, I really don’t know. I have had various jobs in the past and basically loved them all.

Snowboarding instructor

Golf Course Maintenance worker

Farmers Hand (on the home farm)

Research and Development Student for a chemical company

I guess I was not thinking when I accepted a job where 1. I would be working by myself and 2. I’m in an office, all day. I was blinded by the fact that it was a full time job and I was coming out of University, what an opportunity! This job really isn’t bad at times, when it is busy it is actually quite entertaining. However very rarely is it busy and so I’m getting lazier. When I’m busy when I get a new task I get it done right away. But when there’s not much to do, I put it off because I have so much time to get it done later.

Heres what I think I need in a job:

1. Outdoors (either all outdoors or flexibility indoor/outdoor work)

2. People

3. Accomplishment (I need to feel like what I am doing is actually helping something)
I think that I’d like to try landscaping sometime (designing not cutting lawns all the time). You definately get accomplishment in that job!

Whats in your ideal job?
