My perfect st. patrick's day.

Today was our first flip flop weather day in Ontario. Combine that with St. Patrick’s Day and just about everyone it seemed was thinking about green beer on patios. I had something else on my mind that sounded a little more like “Ahhh the snow is all melting and I haven’t been on the slopes yet this year!” That has never happened since I started skiing and snowboarding as a kid. I don’t know what happened this year! So I gathered up my friend Jen who luckily has Wednesdays off and is a snowboarder herself and we headed off to a ski hill about half an hour away.

The weather was so perfect that I’m sure this woman was  comfortable:

and there was no snow anywhere except on the ski hill.

Spring skiing is the greatest invention. Take the cold, bitter wind and icy conditions out and there is nothing to not love, if you ask me. Our faces looked like this all day long.

(And I’m not one to pass up a holiday, so I’m drinking a Stella from a green bottle in a green sweatshirt on my couch now although it’s past midnight… better late than never? I love March Break.)

My favourite boy and my favourite hobby.

To start off, a quote from a previous blog of mine:

“Although, I have never been one to keep things short. Except for skirts. And relationships.”

Well, that is no longer true because I don’t wear skirts at all now that I live in a city where it was -37c (-34f) this week and also because Mr. Leah and I celebrated our four (4!) year anniversary this past week.

To celebrate we took the day off work on Thursday and headed to the mountains to go snowboarding at Sunshine Village. Other than the fact that it was incredibly cold, it was a great day. The sun was shining and we practically had the mountains to ourselves. Uh-mazing.

For my birthday Mr. Leah got me a camera, and I have tried to become better at taking pictures so that’s a good thing for all of you! (Better = quantity, NOT quality!)

GondolaIn the gondola, freezing our buns off. Look at my frozen hair!

MountainsThere were moments when I looked around and just asked myself “Is this real?” It was so beautiful.

Happy Things

This week has been a very blah week,  so I have found myself on tumblr and weheartit looking at pretty pictures a LOT…probably more than I should with 2 assignments and a midterm coming up.  (It’s okay mom, they’re getting done, this is just a break!) On my account on weheartit (amazing website by the way), I have 11 pages of pictures that I’ve “hearted”, and on tumblr I have “liked” a whopping 531 posts.  Unfortunately I rarely reblog them, sooo my Tumblarity is…Zero! Haha,  I wanted to post some pictures that I’ve hearted on weheartit that have been becoming my Macbook background like it’s their job, soo here ya go! (I had to cut this down a lot..and there are still 20 pictures, I hope you enjoy)

I used to make millions of collages.  Clear tape was my best friend, and all my magazines were all cut up!

Had to include this in here. It looks so amazing, and I wish I was there right now. I might be alone on this, but I WANT SNOW!

Six Unimportant Facts about Lauren

Here are my six facts!

1) Before I started university I had never had Starbucks…like ever. But my roommate wanted me to go with her one day before class and I got a White Mocha, and needless to say, I never looked back.

2) I have ski raced for 12 out of the 18 years I’ve been alive at our local ski hill. Also 11 out of 12 of those years I won “High Points Female” on our team-that is the girl on the team who had the most points at the end of the season. Also at that hill I, along with 3 of the other fiveblondes ski/snowboard instructed, and I also coached a ski team of 10-12 year olds last year. I pretty much used to live there in the winter, and unfortunately I can’t this winter because I’m 6 hours away.

3) Two summers ago I worked in Minden for the Ministry of Natural Resources as an Ontario Junior Ranger. I stayed from July 1st until August 18th in cabins in the middle of nowhere with about 20 other girls. We did things like making hiking and cross-country ski trails, go on canoe trips and camping trips, and visiting the other camps around the province. It was a greaat summer and I’m still in touch with the girls I worked with.

4) I bite my fingernails. It’s horrible and I know, but I just can’t stop no matter how much I’ve tried. This past summer I stopped for a couple of weeks because I was cleaning bathrooms and thought it was pretty gross, haha. Even though I’ve started biting them since then, for some reason I still don’t bite my right pinky fingernail. Who knows why, I just don’t. Looking back to my Lent post, I always try to stop biting my fingernails for Lent, but I’ve recently realized that it doesn’t work, so I’ve given up giving that up.

5) I’ve never had a haircut that I’m really happy with. I always bring in pictures of what I want my bangs to look like, but it never looks like it. I try to explain how I want it different, but I’m really bad at it. I’ve decided that next time I’m going to just take charge and say “no. I want it exactly like THIS picture.” Probably going to be hard for me.

6) I love my big, manly, fat cat named Herman. He’s the cutest thing ever, but you would never think so to look at him. Recently when I was at home I walked in on Herman licking Dragon Baby’s (our other, younger cat) face. It was super cute, so I said “AWW boys!” and grabbed my camera, but all I got was this picture:

Hermandragon

okay I have another one…

7) I LOOVE baking! Every time I come home for the week or weekend I bake something. When I went home for reading week I baked cookies at night, then when I woke up they were gone :( . D (Ericas fiance) got a cookbook for christmas from Oma, and I saw cakes in it that I reallly want to make someday. Something like this maybe? haha:LouisVuittoncake It’s a Louis Vuitton purse cake! There are my six facts! Sorry they’re so late by the way. I couldn’t think of any, then the formatting kept messing up. I should probably learn how to fix all that eh?

GREAT news for Canada!

“Canadian skier Emily Brydon won a World Cup super G event in St. Moritz, Switzerland, on Sunday.
It was the Fernie, B.C., native’s first gold medal in seven World Cup seasons.

Brydon, whose career was interrupted by a bad crash in St. Anton in 2001, finished in one minute, 17.39 seconds to outpace the competition by a healthy margin of 0.25 seconds.
“It’s like a dream I’ve had for years,” Brydon said. “I just let the skis go and I tried to create as much speed as possible.”
Austria’s Elisabeth Goergl came second (1:17.64), and teammate Renate Goetschl, the defending super G champion, finished a close third (1:17.68).
Brydon had previously garnered her lone World Cup silver medal on the same piste in St. Moritz on Dec. 16.”
