Scott and I had a nice trip last week when we drove down to Louisville. We were away Wednesday to Monday which was a nice vacation away. Here’s what we did for the first few days!

On Wednesday we drove down through the fog and rain, it wasn’t that nice of a drive. We stopped at Bass Pro Shops on the way down I-65 so Scott could drool over boats and fishing rods and the continued down to Louisville (and stopped at a Cracker Barrel too!) and arrived at our hotel- Springhill Suites by Marriott.
To Kentucky and Back (1)
Micaela, Kent, Matt, and Laura take on Calgary.
As you will know if you’ve been paying attention, Kent and I just got back from a ten day vacation to visit Leah and Tim in Calgary. We were joined by our friends Matt and Laura, and had a fabulous time. Here’s some photographic evidence of that:

We spent the first half of the trip searching out a Tim Hortons – any good Canadian will recognize it in this picture! We are addicts.

Matt, Laura, Leah, me, and Kent out for some spicy Thai food in Banff.

Our hotel had a couple of sweet hot tubs that dyed that bathing suit a strange tan colour. I don’t even want to think about what the chemicals did to my skin.

The group at the top of Lake Louise.

It was so nice out that we ate lunch outside and did a little suntanning.

Anyone who’s been to Lake Louise will recognize this infamous photo op.

Our last day on the slopes was spent at Sunshine.

Our boys spent a lot of time cooking for us.

And we all spent a lot of time drinking wine.

The last couple days were spent meeting up with a LOT of family – here is the group with our cousin Chris and our friend Natalie!

Our Aunt gave me and Leah the coolest spices ever that she got from India.

Our lovely hosts.

Leah was so sad to see us go that she started to act a little strangely…
All in all it was a great trip and I would travel with these travel buddies anytime.
All of my credit and appreciation goes to Laura for the photos and for being the official photographer of the trip.
Trip Planning
January and February seem to be the month for trips this year. Two co-workers of mine are in Chile (for work), Mic & Kent are in Calgary, Laura & Matt are in Calgary and Scott and I are planning a trip. finally.
Scott and I have not gone away since our honeymoon to Costa Rica last November (2007) and are in desperate need of a trip. As many of you know we are farmers, Scott loves farming and he wanted to be a farmer since he was 3. Scott really wants to go to the National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville, Kentucky in early February, so we decided to make it into a trip! I’m getting really excited for it and started planning details last night.
We are planning on driving there Feb 11, and staying in Louisville until the 15th! Which means we are away for Valentines Day, how romantic… lol. We plan to go to the show for 2 days (apparently it’s a fairly large show), go to Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby Museum, and of course I want to go shopping and go to the Science Centre! It’s probably not the kind of trip many of you would be interested to go on but I think it’s going to be a great time. I’m also excited to stay in a hotel, I love staying in hotels and we booked a pretty nice one in downtown Louisville.
Does anyone know of anything else that we could do in Louisville? Any great places to eat?
and since I am incapable of posting without a picture here are 2 pictures of farming. One taken at our barn during harvest and the other taken at my work during silage harvest.
Tonight, tonight, won't be just any night
My friends and family, tonight is the night that I have been waiting for since May 27, 2008. I am heading from YYC – Calgary to YXU – London and I am so excited! This is my projected route, but I will happily take any route the pilot chooses, so long as it gets me there quickly and safely.

I am excited for this:

To become:

I have a whole itinerary planned, and I am excited to go to Thorndale, London, Guelph and Ottawa! My two week long vacation started today, I had to go to work for two hours and get some of my stuff organized and was supposed to see some clients, but it was too cold (minus 37 degrees celsius!) so I cancelled them. I took the day to spend with myself and do fun things alone – like pack, and laundry, and get Tim’s Christmas present, and get my eyebrows waxed. Then Tim made me honey and sage duck for dinner and I am leaving in three hours for the airport! Mom, don’t forget to pick me up in London at 6:12am.
SEE YOU SOON GIRLS!
Surprises!
On Saturday night after I got back from a week facilitating at a camp, Kent and I headed up to Toronto for the start of our small vacation. We got to his parents house late and went to bed right away. The next morning we woke up and ate one of his dad’s AMAZING breakfasts that he always makes when we’re there (and, I have a feeling, when we are not there too), and headed off for my first (of many) surprises for the weekend. We met Kent’s friend Ryan and Ryan’s girlfriend Perola at Horseshoe Valley for some Tree Top Trekking Adventures AND the longest zip line in Canada! It was pretty awesome and also REALLY challenging (my abs hurt for a few days after). Kent and I both finished the beginner, intermediate, and advanced courses. Next we went out for dinner with Ryan and Perola and headed to their house for the night. There we hung out and played lots of euchre – I always take advantage of situations in which I am with 3 other people who all know how to play euchre!
On Monday we had a lazy morning at Ryan’s house, then Kent swam down a waterfall and I was terrified for his life, then headed off to Huntsville where we went to a restaurant called the Cottage, where we had our first date two summers ago. We ate there, did a little shopping, did a hike, and then I had my next surprise of the trip, Kent had booked us a room at the Deerhurst Resort! He told me to wait outside in the parking lot while he went inside and got our keys… by this point I was getting a little suspicious. So I sat in the parking lot and read and he finally came out and we went up to our room, which was a beautiful suite. He told me to wait outside the room and he’d go in and “see if it was nice.” This made me even more suspicious but when I went into the room everything seemed to be in order. We went for a swim at the Deerhurst beach, played some basketball, went for dinner at the Deerhurst restaurant, drank lots of champagne and just had a great evening hanging out together.
Costa Rican Honeymoon Part 3
Part 3: 2nd Outing, Relaxing and Heading Home
It’s been 1 month since my last honeymoon recap and I think it’s about time that I finished up, so I’ll put the rest in this blog, and will try not to make it too long.
Here are some pictures of our relaxing days. In the 2nd one you can kind of make out someone on the zip line over the pool. The last one is when Scott and I borrowed bikes and toured the resort, there were so many hills, so we ended up walking our bikes a lot. Because we are lazy.

Dirty Dancing
The Ontario Blondes had a great weekend!
Since it was Lauren’s 19th Birthday we planned a sister outing to the bars in London. We wanted to hit up 19 bars for her 19th birthday but realized it was a bit unreasonable since we didn’t start the bar hopping until 10:30pm. We ended up going to 4 bars and one diner to get some greasy food and milkshakes!
Mic, Kate, Lauren, Erica and E’s cat Max with crazy eyes!

SUPER LONG WEEKEND POST AHEAD!!

The picture above shows the vendor’s booths that crowded the area at the entrance to the resort from the beach.
Costa Rican Honeymoon Part 1
In November a week after our wedding Scott and I went on our honeymoon to Costa Rica. We stayed at the Paradisus Playa Conchal Resort. We were there for 10 days, so I’ll try to break these posts up accordingly, and not make it day by day because no one wants to read a 10 part vacation explanation.

(smiling faces at 5am in the morning.)
