Getting Cold Feet!

For my past 2 years in Ottawa I have been shown just how cold it can get up here!  During my first year there was so much snow during our winter exams I got snowed in at a friends house with no books to study from and no real warm clothes.  Buses and cabs were useless, so I had no choice but to bundle up in my friends boyfriends snowboarding clothes and walk.  On our hour and a half walk to my residence we helped THREE cars out of the snow, and  on a normally busy road (for all of you Ottawans-Ottawatonians?- it was from Colonel By right by Bank to Carleton), we passed FIVE cars.  It was insane.  Then last year was the infamous OC Transpo strike in the dead of winter when everyone had to either walk everywhere, take a cab, or get a ride.  It sucked!

Needless to say, I have had cold feet for abouuut 2 years, and I have not had adequate footwear to help with that.  In first year I got some Emus-

and they were warm for about a month, until it started snowing and getting slushy, and THEN they packed out and I had to wear socks and oma slippers in them in order for them to fit/be moderately warm.  I was not impressed, but I stuck it out for 2 winters and both adventures above, have now decided that it’s time for a new-GOOD- pair of winter boots.  Ottawa winter-proof!  I’ve been looking around on the internet and at Rideau Centre.  I didn’t really find anything at Rideau, but I’ve found 3-4 online that I’ve been thinking about and guys, I need advice!

Pair #1

Timberland’s Mount Holly Earthkeepers- I saw these at Rideau, but I didn’t try them on because it was at Town Shoes and all the people around me were trying on stilettos and it just felt weird, haha.

timberland-design-your-own-bootsTimberland’s Design Your Own Boots- I just designed my own (the tall version), and they had pink on them, and they were cute and I loved them.

joan-of-arcadia

Sorel’s Joan of Arcadia.

Sorel’s Helen of Tundra…

And the boots that started this all,

So tell me what you all think! Do you have amazing boots to share?

Ps. I have the coat in #2 at the Community website.  The Technical hemp hooded parka.

I adore the first pair you posted as an option. The other pairs are, in my opinion, too trendy and these will likely be a pair of boots that will last for many years to come.
Very cute!

I had a similar dilemma last year and I ended up getting Sorels. Love them! The Joan of Arcs are cute. My Sorels keep my feet warm and dry. The rubber part is completely waterproof, so the boots keep my feet dry in the massive slush puddles I encounter on a pretty much daily basis in the winter

I like the first ones but wonder how hard core they are if you can buy them at town shoes. I love my Keens but I don’t know if they do tall boots. I love it when you actually NEED a pair of footwear so can justify spending a bit more!

@Lee- the first ones remind me of a pair that one of you guys have…maybe you?
@Laura S- Mom reccommended the Sorels too! I think I’ll wait until I can actually try some on though.
@Laura L- They are Timberlands though, and I thought those were pretty hard core? You can also justify spending more when it’s for christmas! haha

I like the first ones, or the Sorel- Helen of Tundra.

Mostly I just LOVE all winter boots! This year I need a pair that are rreeaallly easy to put on, since it’s already hard just to put socks on!

Ottawa girl here, I vote for the Sorels – I’ve heard they’re the best for winter.

I like both Sorels, and the first pair of Timberlands.
Let me know how it goes because I think I need to make a similar investment! My feet are cold approx. 100% of the time. Even in summer. It’s ridic.

I find the worst part about finding boots is that being stylish and practical very seldom go hand in hand! Currently I am sporting my insulated rubber boots from the co-op, which are great for dog walks in wet, frosty grass (haven’t encountered any snow yet), but aren’t very pretty.

I’m so terrible. I was taking public transit for .. FOREVER and finally bought a car – but before I did, I had EMU’s and slipped all over the place for 1 winter. I couldn’t fathom doing it for another one, so I too ended up going the safe route and purchasing some salomon’s (however it’s spelt). But I’m seriously eyeing these bailey button uggs from Soft Moc (http://www.uggaustralia.com/ca/ProductDetails.aspx?gID=w&productID=5803&model=Bailey+Button). I want them SO bad.
