25 Before 25

in Calgary, dreams, leah, life

Back in November I turned 23 (remember when my Mom surprised me in Calgary?) and after reading an amazing list of “25 Things to do Before 25″ on a blog that I can’t currently remember the name/address of I chose to do one as well. Goals are important, and while some of these are quite frivolous and some may seem small they are all very important to me.

I have a year and ten months to go, and here is my list.

1.) Run a half-marathon

2.) Take a road trip with the boyfriend

3.) Become a morning person

4.) Go horseback riding in the mountains

5.) Have at least $7000 saved for a down-payment for a home (obviously the purchasing of a home will not happen in the next  two years…)

6.) Buy new snowboard gear (board, boots, bindings, coat)

7.) Sit on the board of an organization

8.) Hold a full-time position that utilizes my Gerontology degree

9.) Own a diamond (before you all get too excited – this can be in the form of a necklace, earrings or a ring. And maybe I will buy it for myself – who knows!)

10.) Travel to Vancouver

11.) Get a tattoo

12.) Gain a professional mentor

13.) Grow a garden

14.) Learn to play the guitar

15.) Acquire a piece of vintage furniture and re-create it

16.) Wear more dresses

17.) Go surfing

18.) Give myself an A+ for budgeting for three months straight (I grade myself biweekly on how well I stick to my budget)

19.) Take my time – with everything. This includes being a calmer person, being prepared in advance (whether for a date or a presentation) and becoming more aware of my surroundings

20.) Donate blood as often as I can

21.) Encourage Mr. Leah to start a cooking blog, or have him do a regular guest blog feature here

22.) See Simon and Garfunkel in concert

23.) Take a trip with girlfriends

24.) Decorate a room to my taste

25.) Model in a fashion show

Last night a girlfriend and I read our lists on the phone to each other (she has 100 before 50) and it is a great way to keep yourself in check. Little did she know that she had accomplished about 15 items on her list in one short year! We were surprised at how many ideas on our list were the same and will be doing some of our items together.

Thanks for reading! Did you know you can get Five Blondes delivered (semi) daily? Just click for our RSS feed. See you soon!

I really want to make one of these lists, too. I’d be all for cooking guest posts from Mr Leah! :)

Dooo it! And then post it on your blog. And then read it to your friends. An then have fun completing it! Thanks for the cooking posts support – people have been really receptive to it so I hope he can do it soon.

leah you DID model in a fashion show! an AMAZING fashion show!

Why, hello Ruby! Pleasure seeing you here. I should have said another fashion show … but I thought that sounded kind of precocious. I have been in a couple but I want to do more! Thanks for the comment.

DUUUUUDE “be in a fashion show’ is on my list of life goals! Let’s create our own! I wear a ton of dresses in the summer, need a professional mentor – or 3, (and a personal one), am going to Vancouver in April, am taking a trip w/girlfriends in June, and also need to sit on the board of an org.

you and I should just meld and be one person and we’d get all this done in a year and ten months for sure.

Okay. Can we meld before you go to India? I would like to join you in the hauling of the concrete. But for real – Go to India, come back and then I am all for doing some of these things together! My ComLuv Profile

This list is a perfect mix of things that are very doable, and things that take a bit more effort to complete. I’m sure you’ll have no problem crossing these things off! Good luck, Leah.

I love that seeing Simon and Garfunkle in concert is on your list. I love them so much. My dad use to sing me to sleep with their songs. Of couse, he hummed through the parts about the hookers in The Boxer.

I also grew up with S&G. Cecilia was the first song me and my sisters knew all the words for and we would always sing along to it in the van. That’s a sweet memory about your Dad singing you to sleep (and humming the dirty words haha).

Awesome goals! You could kill two birds with one stone by roadtripping to Vancouver with the b/f! It’s a BEAUTIFUL drive in the summer :)

I am hoping to go in April with a girlfriend. Roadtripping and a trip with girlfriends – still two birds with one stone! Thanks for the comment.

Good Luck with the guitar. If you do take it up, I want to know how easy/hard it is.
Bray´s last blog ..Obstruction GaGa oh la la

I will keep you updated with this one. I know a few chords and I am really good at Guitar Hero so I hope that translates to the real deal (kidding). I used to play a string instrument – the viola – so I am hoping I can pick it up quickly. My ComLuv Profile

Fantastic list. I love your budget grading – great idea.

All the best with your list!

Re: grading system – I just started it recently but so far it is working! I should start to graph my grades to see how they are going.

Thanks for the comment!

This is a great list! I should do one of those, only before 40, or something (sad). For me, #3 happened whether I wanted it to or not, right around 25, too. It’s like my brain would just perk up and say “WAKE UP!” I’ve gotten used to it, but I still count days where I sleep in past 8 as holidays.

Yes, you should do one! And I sure as h-e-double hockey sticks hope that the same thing happens to me. Even this morning I had the coffee ready to brew and breakfast out but I still couldn’t get out of bed. Day one of being a morning person: FAIL!My ComLuv Profile

I’m turning 29 on Sunday (ugh, this scares me) and have considered making a “30 before 30″ list, but I’m worried it will be a little overwhelming. Still, your list has inspired me to give it a try. We’ll see how it goes :)

Crap … does this mean I have to do a 40 before 40 list? It’s only 19 months away.

Of course, I’m booking a trip to Egypt to swim in River Denial.

Hi there!
I came across this blog on Cupcakes and Cashmere (love!) and didn’t expect to find a) a Canadian blog and b) a Calgary connection! I, too, live in Calgary and moved here a few years ago after school and am starting up my event planning and design business. I’ll have to keep coming back to this adorable blog (great concept) to stay in touch!
