Plus, it is absolutely hilarious to watch these hometown pies being sold for hundreds of dollars. Some people buy them them donate the pies right back just because they love to be part of the action.

I’m gonna have to start saving my pennies for pies when I’m OLD!

@Carol- The pies are auctioned off and all the money goes right back into the fair. It’s just a different way of sponsoring (and you get a little something out of the deal).

Someday we’ll be the ones coughing up $300 for a pie if we want this tradition to continue. I bet it will be a lot more competitive – lots of fighting over the raspberry pie! Then we’ll all go back to the Thom house with our kids and party it up.
