I’m having a problem with food lately. You might say we have a complicated relationship.
Right now I’m sitting at my desk with a half-eaten Michelina’s Spaghetti dinner beside me. I could barely make it past the first bite and now the smell is making me sick. Excuse me while I dispose of it…
There. Now why didn’t I do that ten minutes ago? Anyway. My favorite granola bars? Can’t finish them. I used to go through a box a week, but I haven’t bought any since August. I have half of a chocolate bar next to my computer monitor that I just can’t eat. Yesterday’s lunch, leftover meatloaf that I enjoyed the evening before, came home barely touched. I open the fridge, stare, and close it.
I am practically living on frosted flakes. I kid you not.
I need help. I am craving veggies, I know I’m not getting enough. I hate spending money on food, I know that sounds really stupid but the receipts just pile up and pile up. It bugs me. I’m a picky eater, I hate that too. It doesn’t help that I’m not feeling well. I survived my rebound cold but I’m still not 100%.
Maybe I just need new food ideas. For the sake of my already-scrawny self, please share yours?

Hmmm I certainly know that when I’m feeling under the weather, I often find myself a lot less hungry, turned off by foods I usually love, and I usually turn to comfort foods.
Otherwise, for food inspiration I turn to lots of food blogs all the time, like Smitten Kitchen, Orangette, Coconut & Lime, and Simply Recipes. And I tend to keep a list of about 10 dinners that I like to rotate through fairly regularly, and once in awhile I’ll throw something new (or something I rarely make) into the mix for variety. Some of my staples are: pasta with tomato sauce (I add steamed veggies to the sauce, like broccoli and asparagus), chicken & veggie stir fry with rice, Dr. Oetker pizzas (add extra veggies) with salad on the side, seafood curry, “tuna bake” casserole (any casserole would work well here), spaghetti with homemade meat & veggie sauce, chili con carne, Mediterranean pesto gnocchi with sundried tomatoes, artichokes, and aspagagus (recipe for that one is on my blog), and an Asian veggie & noodle salad…
Hope this maybe helps a bit?

Mmm… Asian veggie and noodle salad … I have been dying to make pioneer woman’s but haven’t gotten around to it yet!
I was once as scrawny as you (once, a man came up to me in a mall parking lot and said “anorexia is a disease, get some help” - I cried). Perhaps you are getting stressed out about the upcoming wedding? Extreme emotion can easily affect eating habits and foody desires.
I stay healthy by having a boyfriend who is a wannabe chef (and a damn good one at that). Hmm … ROASTS!!! Roasts are a grrrreat idea for big time carnivores such as the FB minus Lauren. And it is so easy too. Buy a beef roast at the grocery store (about $12-15) and put it in some bakeware and put in with it half beef broth and half water, celery, onions, carrots and potatoes throw lotsa pepper on there and other herbs if you life, and put it in the oven, covered in foil, at 325 when you leave for work and when you get home check it out and around dinnertime it should be DEEELISH! Throw together a little salad (easy peasy) and you have a whole meal for the night, PLUS an amaaazing beef sammy for lunch the next day.
Good luck darling! If that fails, go to Oma’s for dinner! That is true comfort food. While you are there, mix yourself up a little prekkie for me and send it on over.

I also think grocery shopping bills can be very manageable - but you have to look at WHAT you are buying. Michelina’s? NOT a good idea to buy if you want to keep your grocery bill down. What I suggest to my clients who are on strict, strict budgets is to prepare a dish like a pasta salad on Sunday and have it for lunch for the next four days or however long it lasts. Or try making a big batch of egg salad for the week. Both of those are so easy and really inexpensive to make. For the price of one Michelina’s you cuold have egg salad for a week! And it tastes better and has less sodium and trans fats.

Duh. Stop packing the carbs, chocolate, salts and sugars and get some real food. Drink some water. Eat some fruit and vegetables. Lose the Michelina’s. Ever read the ingredients?

cooking classes! they’re so inspiring when you think you’re tired of the kitchen. or borrow cookbooks from the library. LOVE leah’s egg salad suggestion. that’s one i use a lot!
Er, I really want to give you some good suggestions but it’s hard to do that without knowing what kinds of things you’re eating now!
What about soup? A good vegetable soup? My favourite is a nice tomato and basil drizzled with some cream… but you can always opt out of the cream if you don’t want any dairy in it.
What else, Bruschetta… stir-frys? I can’t think of anything else right now!
Um…are you pregnant?

Erica probably doesn’t weigh 100 pounds soaking wet, I don’t think it is possible for her to be preggo! But haha … talk about wedding dress alterations!!

Dutchess, as I was writing the post I was thinking to myself “sounds like I’m pregnant!”
But no, I can guarantee that I am not. In fact I think my currently raging hormones had a lot to do with my mood when I wrote yesterday.
haha wow, I was rereading it this morning and the first thing that came to my mind was “gees she’s probably pregnant”. and I agree with Leah- go to Omas!
I also think you should go to Omas!
Either one you have is probably more than willing to cook for you. I have been thinking about doing that for ages…being that I live so close to your oma far’s! LOL
I also feel like I need to defend/explain myself. The Michelina’s? That’s a one-off. I have those things about 1ce a month. Chocolate bar, about the same. These were bad examples. I eat lots of “real food”. Fruit for breakfast. H2O is my beverage of choice. (fyi Doug. Also, your comment really ruined my night and made me feel bad. Guess what? You’re now a cause of my food problem.)
Yesterday was a BAD DAY and I’m calling it a write off.
Eri - we love you and are all now worried about you and we are ALL supporting you. Even Doug, in his rude and condescending manner.
Use this not as a means of setback, but as a push to move forward with your healthy (and plentiful)eating habits!
Maybe you should have an opposite wedding diet - eat TONS and fill in those curves, baby! Most people eat less/diet before their wedding but I’m thinking the opposite is true for you.

I cause the new food problems? No, I don’t think so.
. Hey I have food problems sometimes too, and they usually accompany, precede and coincide with a bad mood, self-loathing, lack of sleep, stress…
It usually consist of me packing carbs, cookies etc. It’s bad. But it’s because I’m craving the highs off it.
The problems are elsewhere. The food is the symptom.
