Hiii everyone! So I noticed that a few of my sisters were doing this “100 Things About Me” post, so the other day in a point of procrastination I decided to start one up. Well wouldn’t you know it I would get like 20 done in about 5 minutes, then stop for a while, then I would think of something else, and go back and write another 10-20 things. Well anyways, enjoy learning about me!
1) I have a love/hate relationship with being the youngest of five girls. On one hand, I get spoiled (any of my sisters will back me up on this), but on the other hand, I have to go through everything last and that kind of sucks too.
2) When Microsoft Word tells me that a word is misspelled, but really it’s just a word my dictionary doesn’t know, I always add it. For example: bloggers, McHottie, favourite (okay, that’s just Canadian), stickie, and fiveblondes. I just like my documents to not have those annoying red squiggly lines under the words.
3) I should never be allowed to drink white wine.
4) I LOVE The Hills and The City, and none of my roommates do.
5) This makes it hard to watch them both, so I always end up watching them online.
6) I secretly really want a dress from Lauren Conrad’s clothing line.
7) I also secretly wish everyone called me Lau (like Kate, Leah and Scottie McHottie do). So go ahead everyone!
I am very bad at making friends, so I made one of my New Years resolutions to make 5 friends.
9) I went the furthest away from home for University.
10) Erica went the closest, so I guess we’ve gotten further away as we got younger?
11) I just learned that “kerning” means adjusting the spacing between betters or characters.
12) I learned it because I was trying to make my font smaller, but found a funny word so I clicked on that.
13) I’m a part of the “20 something bloggers”, but I’m not 20.
14) I hope that makes me a rebel…
15) My roommate from last year in residence (Kaylee) moved back home (1.5 hours away), and it made me very sad. She will also be very excited to see her name in this blog.
16) I have three celebrity idols- Lindsay Lohan, Ashley Olsen, Marilyn Monroe.
17) I would be very happy if I were this age in the 50s or 60s.
18) They are not my idols because of their actions. I just wanted to confirm that.
19) I get bored with the layout of my room way too much.
20) This usually leads to rearranging my room at 1am while watching The City online.
21) My favourite food is quesadillas. You can ask anyone this, because if I go out to dinner and there are quesadillas on the menu I will definitely get them.
22) My favourite kind of chocolate bar is Mars bars.
23) This may have been brought upon when we used to go to our aunts house to sleep over and have Mars Bars for breakfast.
24) We had ice cream for breakfast at our other aunt’s house.
25) My favourite kind of candy is Rockets.
26) My favourite kind of alcoholic drink is a tie between Sangria and Margaritas.
27) I have officially run out of room on my Stickie, which now fills the whole page, but this is not stopping me from writing.
28) Speaking of sticky notes, I have a very large collection of them on my desk in all different shapes and sizes. L’s, hearts, squares and rectangles.
29) I fear that this little project is just feeding my bad habit of rambling, which I have recently decided that I need to cut out of my life.
30) None of my sisters know this yet, (and they won’t until I post this because it’s not on the edit page!), but at the end of May I am doing the 5k portion of the Ottawa Marathon with my friend Kaylee.
31) I am very fortunate that I have a gym in my apartment complex so I can train in our -30* weather.
32) Referring back to my celebrity idols, anyone who has seen my laptop backgrounds ever will know this, because it is usually either Lindsay Lohan, the Olsen’s, Marilyn Monroe, or me and my sisters.
33) I HATE the bass being loud in music, unless I am in a club or somewhere equally as loud, and have no desire to hear anything. In other words, unless never.
34) Unfortunately for me, my three boy roommates LOVE their bass, and will take any excuse to use it. (Eg. car in the garage, playing video games, sitting in their room doing nothing, doing schoolwork, driving in their car, eating. ANY. excuse)
35) One of my favourite things about my winter clothes is putting my hand in my pocket and finding money I forgot about from the year before.
36) Just about every day I see something that reminds me about ski racing and I miss it SO much.
37) Moms dream for me is to go to the Olympics. It is my dream too actually.
38) My two favourite animals are hippos and porcupines.
39) I LOVE country music.
40) I also love any other type of music, and there is no real music that I hate (except music played with a loud bass, as mentioned before). My iTunes is filled with anything from Taylor Swift to Girl Talk to The White Stripes.
41) One of my roommates introduced me to Girl Talk around when we moved in in July, and I listened to them almost nonstop for about a month after that. I suggest you give them a try, especially “Here’s The Thing”, “Hand Clap”, and “Warm It Up”.
42) I’m taking Criminology at Carleton in Ottawa.
43) My favourite class that I’m taking right now is Developmental Psychology, but I think most of the reason I like it most is because I like my prof. She is the nicest person you will ever meet, and she has 4 kids all around me and my sister’s ages.
44) I learned today (in Developmental Psych) that introverts will put themselves into situations where they don’t need to interact with others or be in public a lot, and extroverts will put themselves into situations where they will have a lot of people to talk to and be in public.
45) I don’t really think that is true, because any of my sisters will tell you that I am an introvert, yet I play a lot of group sports, I was a facilitator for frosh week this year, and of course there is this blog, which all put me in positions where I have to talk to people, meet new people and interact. Maybe this makes me a closeted extrovert?
46) I drink wayyy too much coffee at school.
47) My favourite colour is purple. But not light purple, just dark purple
48) Last year at the beginning of the school year I HATED the taste of mushrooms, and would pick them out of anything. But then I visited my aunt in Toronto for a night when it was too snowy for me to be picked up from the airport, and she made me a pasta dish with mushrooms in it. I ate the mushrooms because I didn’t want to be rude and pick them out, and since then I’ve loved them.
49) I get distracted very easily. I was just making notes for Forensic Psychology, and thought of something to add to this, so I’ve been doing this for about 10 minutes now.
50) I never use my laptop in class because I’m paranoid that people behind me are reading what I’m writing. It’s weird, because I’d just be writing notes, but still. I think this is because that’s what I do when I sit behind people. Especially if they’re on MSN or Facebook or something like that.
51) At home in Ottawa I am a neat freak, but as soon as I get home I go back to my old ways and am very messy.
52) My favourite movie is Grind.
53) My favourite book is either Summer Sisters or Picabo Street: Nothing to Hide.
54) I love making lists and schedules. I always make lists of what needs to be done either in a day or in a week, then make a schedule of when I’m going to do everything on that list.
55) I get terrified if I have to speak in front of a class. The first day of my Human Rights tutorial we were going around the room, saying our names, where we were from, and what our program was, and by the time it got to me my heart was pounding SO hard, and I was like shaking. It was pretty much nothing, but I was just so nervous about it for some reason.
56) I LOVE my cat Herman. In our house he’s the old, cranky one, but I love his crankiness. Especially now that his favourite place to sleep is a cardboard box in the back kitchen. I miss him!
57) I get TERRIFIED of scary movies. I can’t even watch a preview in the daytime with other people of that new movie The Unborn.
58) Yet I still go watch them at the theatres.
59) I, like most of the fiveblondes, LOVE musicals, and have been in a few, again, like most of the fiveblondes (well, all except Micaela).
60) When I laugh too hard my eyes well up with tears.
61) I also go really red.
62) Aaand my eyes go all squinty.
63) I’m really self-conscious about all three of those things, so I always try to calm myself down when I’m laughing and they happen.
64) I used to read ALL the time, and I was a really fast reader. That’s one of the things that all my friends knew about me. I would just pick up any book and start to read, and next thing you know, I was halfway done.
65) I found that this ended when I got to University. Something about having to read more textbooks, it just made me not able to concentrate on books anymore, and now I’m lucky if I finish one novel a month.
66) It REALLY upset me when I realized this. I miss reading. I still try to read, but for some reason I can never pay enough attention, or I get bored with it.
67) I used to highland dance.
68) When I was in preschool I bit my teacher. She also happened to be friends with my mom, and now happens to be related to Katelyn!
69) When I was younger (like a lot younger…like soother age), I stole a soother from the Big V Drugstore.
70) Once when I was younger I got a needle from our family doctor and kicked him.
71) I was apparently a very violent and rebellious child.
72) I’ve been cheerleading since grade 9 when I was asked to be on the team. About 6 years ago.
73) I, like three of my sisters went to 2 elementary schools. One from kindergarten to Grade 4, and another from Grade 5-8.
74) The second school was a choir school that you had to try out for in Grade 4.
75) At that school we did musicals in Grade 5 and again in Grade 8.
76) My Grade 5 play was “The Elephant’s Child”. I was a baboon in this play.
77) My Grade 8 play was Anne of Green Gables, and I was a townsperson. I was angry about this play, because playing the parts of the older people were teachers and other adults. Helloo? This was a Grade 8 play.
78) I type how I talk. For example: hiii, helloo, I knowwwww, iiiiii, yeaaaaa. Apparently I like to let words go on forever when I talk, and you probably have to hear me talk like that to really understand what the heck I’m talking about.
79) I aalllways do this when I write things (see?). I don’t know why, but maybe because I’m pretty sarcastic a lot and maybe when people see how I’m saying things they’ll understand how it’s supposed to be said?
80) One of my friends from cheerleading got me talking like her. Instead of “so” it’s “sewwwww”, and instead of “you” it’s “yewwwww”. Maybe I’ll grow out of this…hopefully.
81) I have a lot of anxiety.
82) My favourite kinds of flowers are sunflowers, gerbera daisies and tulips (keep this in mind gentlemen).
83) I worked at a greenhouse one summer and would always buy some gerbera daisies to bring home with me.
84) Some of my friends are having baby fever and it reeaallly freaks me out sometimes.
85) I can cry like anytime of any day. At the drop of a hat, and especially when I get embarrassed, but I’d rather cry easily than not at all.
86) I hate swearing, and the most I will say is “oh crappy”…which I realize makes me sound like a loser, haha. I’ve already gone through my cheerleading team making fun of me for it, so I’m kind of over it.
87) I have a scar on the bridge of my nose from when I had chicken pox and scratched one there until it scabbed.
88) I have a problem with itching mosquito bites until they scab and scar. You should see my legs.
89) The summer before grade 12 I worked for the Ministry of Natural Resources for 7 weeks near Huntsville living in cabins with about 25 other girls. That was the summer showered about 7 times all together, and stopped shaving my legs for 7 weeks.
90) I shower regularly now. I promise.
91) I would recommend that job to absolutely ANYONE. It was amazing.
92) I have had no real boyfriends.
93) I HATE black heads, and for some reason Biore strips don’t work on my nose. Even when I take my nose ring out.
94) I’ve had my nose pierced twice in my life. Once in grade 9 for about 3 weeks (before I got in trouble at school because we weren’t allowed to have piercings), and the second time last October, and I still have it now.
95) I’ve never had braces on my teeth, but I’ve also never really liked my teeth either.
96) My bedroom in Ottawa is a whole different climate from the rest of the house, so I am constantly in huge socks, slippers, sweaters, tights and sweatpants.
97) I am a ski instructor and a ski race coach.
98) My birthday is June 9. Same as my Opa!
99) I looovee camping. Hence the whole living in a cabin for one summer. One summer at home I spent almost the whole summer sleeping in a tent in our backyard.
100) I HATE racism and racists, and it doesn’t help that I live with who I live with.

Thanks for opening up to us, “Lau!” The Ottawa Marathons are great – I was there a couple years ago and could be back again this year, maybe I’ll see you there! PS I love dark purple too but I insist on calling it “deep purple” – same name as the awesome classic rock band.

I never realized how alike we are.
Also, your teeth are cute! I love them.
I loved it Lau! I am so proud of you for doing the 5k – that will be SO good for you. You know, Dad is going to get mad at you for saying “loser” on our blog. It is the one forbidden word in our household. I learned a lot about you, whcih is weird because I have known you for 20 years! Go figure. Thank you for sharing this with us.

@Saver Queen- hmm deep purple. sounds good! I was in Ottawa at the time of the marathon last year too, the only thing I remember is that the roads were terrible!
@Leah- I say loser a lottt. haha
@Sarah- I think it may have a song about Crocodile Tears. I remember three songs: “In Africa”, “Pulll, everybody pullll”, and “The great gray green and greasy limpopo river, is not the kind of place, for a child to be”. haha, it wasn’t the most famous of plays I think, but Rudyard Kipling wrote it.

You’re adorable Lauren. I don’t think you’re an introvert. There is such a thing as a shy extrovert, so I think that’s what you are. Extroverts aren’t always masters of social situations, they can be shy too!

You made me want to finish my post!! I think I’m about half way done mine?
I am so with you on the getting scared when you have to say your name in a group of people! I get so nervous!
I also realized in University that I stopped reading (I felt guilty reading anything but my textbooks) and I also realized in University that I didn’t sing at much, mostly in 1st year because I was very unhappy.
