Last time I wrote about something I loved there was a bit of a public backlash from a lovely fellow/lady in Woodstock, ON. I immediately deleted the comment but thought it was too priceless to share.
My first thought after reading this? Wow, this person has excellent grammar. So, bravo hater. You’re kinda mean but at least you can spell. From Woodstock, that’s pretty impressive (sorry to any Woodstock readers…)
So, there you have it: I’m stupid because I blogged about a scarf. Oh, and Erica isn’t really blonde. Gasp! She’s definitely a dark blonde, but it doesn’t bother her. Would you ever tell a black person they weren’t black enough? I should hope not. Why shouldn’t the same go for hair colour? We are all about self-identification here, people. Unfortunately for this person I won’t be shaving off my blonde hair anytime soon, but I did get a nice trim the other day so now my beautiful blonde hair is super shiny and soft.
I have a point and I suppose I should get to it. I like blogging about things that I love. I like sharing them with you and talking about them. So I am going to continue to do so, even if it makes some people think that I am stupid. Sometimes it is tough to think about blog topics, especially when you are forced to by NaBloPoMo, and perhaps writing about a scarf was an easy way out. But this is my blog and I get to write about whatever I want to. That’s the beauty of a blog.
I have thought, and noticed other people twittering, about feeling stupid about potential blog posts. I often brainstorm blog topics, sometimes even write a post, and resist pressing the publish button because I think it is a stupid idea and people might stop liking me. Getting that comment was actually kind of good for me, because not for a second did I feel bad about what I had written. I know that I was being me when I wrote that, and there is nothing stupid about me.

You tell ‘em Leah!
Never feel ashamed/sad / bothered, anything negative about anything you blog! its freakin yours! ( and the other FOUR blondes, Ya Erica is still blonde even if it is a little dark mr/s stupid Woodstock person! )
I hope next time you blog about socks!! long ones, short ones, toe, stripped / solid!!
Hahahahahahah
Oh, Jaime – you make me laugh! How about knitted socks and sport socks? And maybe, MAYBE, I’ll even write about leg warmers.
it’s sad that people waste time with such hurtful comments. blogs are personal and the beauty of them is that you can write about WHATEVER you like and for every one person out there that thinks it’s “stupid” there are about a hundred others who love hearing what all of you five blondes have to say.
keep blogging about whatever your heart desires! i love reading it=)
maddiemarie´s last blog ..All I want for Christmas is to not bounce my checks….
Thank you Maddiemarie!
Why the hell is that person reading your blog if they think you’re so stupid?? There’s a lot of blogs that don’t personally interest me, and I simply choose not to read them. Just sayin.
That’s also cuz you are an intelligent woman! P.S. Welcome to Twitter!
wow .. really right now .. first of all no one is obligated to read your blog .. so if the topic disgusted them that much (not that scarves are disgusting.. lol) why did they read it ? i would politely tell them to eff off
i love your blog and your twitter posts and i dont see how anyone could not like them .. but apparently they dont know whats good
and that .. is their loss .
Kaitlin Johnston´s last blog ..Cleaning Lady .. That’s Me **
Thank you Kaiti! Some people have’t grasped that idea – the whole “don’t like, don’t read” concept is apparently difficult for a lot of people.
Ahahahaa….I laughed at the comment…it’s sad how pathetic people can be. Who gets that upset over a post about a SCARF? Ridiculous. I wish my biggest problem of the day was somebody posting on a topic I don’t find particularly thrilling.
I remember your scarf post. Shortly after reading it, I actually saw *the scarf* at Smart Set and was like, “oooh, what a great scarf! Too bad I can’t buy it because someone I know has it” and it was only much later in the evening when I remembered I’d seen it on your blog. I still might end up buying it now that I know I’m not copying one of my friends who lives here in Halifax
Amy´s last blog ..November Goals in Review
I would recommend the scarf even though it is a stupid one! I am sure it will look beautiful on you. I’m glad you laughed at the comment!
I liked your post. I got a new scarf from Joe last week and I am contemplating writing about it because it is a great scarf.
Lauren´s last blog ..Haters to the left
You should definitely, definitely write a post on your new scarf.
In regards to that comment, I think even if one of you dyed your hair blue you would still be the ‘Five Blondes’ and I really just can’t take anyone seriously that uses two spaces after a period! haha some people…
You are so right – blonde is a way of life and an attitude, not just a hair colour! Happy one-month-till-baby!
Ummm, I love scarves and think there should be more posts dedicated to them. Bravo Leah for writing what you love and screw whomever left that comment. No one is forced to read this blog, if they don’t like what you write about, they can simply move on or if they disagree that much, there is a proper way to write a comment. For what its worth– I love the FIVE blondes!
mandy´s last blog ..Losing Track of Time
And Mandy, WE LOVE YOU! Well, I do. I can’t speak for all of my girls, but I’m sure they do too : ) You should do a scarf post! Haha.
It is amazing that anyone could be so hateful. It’s your blog so you can write about whatever you like. I enjoy reading it! By the way, her grammar is a little off. Erica is a noun so the “E” should have been capitalized. My mother always told me that if you don’t have anything nice to say then say nothing!
Good eye on the grammar error. That was the rule in our household too – “If you can’t say anything nice, then don’t say anything at all.”
I’m sure that this person is saving the world with their insightful and grammatically correct blog posts and comments. Keep up the great work, all five of you lovelies!
ashlie´s last blog ..Is this annoying?
You made me laugh so loud with this comment! Thanks Ashlie.
Laura – I use two spaces after a period
… but I love scarf posts!!! So where do I fit in? lol
Stefanie! You fit right in at the top of my list! Laura is just pregnant, you can’t blame her. You know, baby brain and all. (For the record, Laura – you are up there real high on the list too)
You guys should do a whole Week of Scarves or something – a week dedicated to blogging about scarves. I know your readers who aren’t assholes would love the satire of it all.
doahleigh´s last blog ..What animal would you be?
Brilliant, just brilliant. And ’cause the amount of non-asshole readers greatly outnumbers those of the asshole variety, we are in luck.
Congratulations, Leah on your first hate comment! I think this is worth celebrating!!! (This is not meant to be sarcastic, I think it’s a big/fun deal!)
Please, I can’t handle anymore celebrating. How about we celebrate in two weeks
Atta girl Leah!! You tell them.
I have yet to get a hater comment, mainly because I don’t think my site is that “popular” so to speak, yet. I’m kind of excited to receive my first one, and I know that sounds bizarre.
Clearly you need to start writing about more controversial topics. You know, like scarves or something. I will bake you a cupcake the day you receive your first hate comment. Good luck!
I am totes mcgotes writing a post about scarves today!
Please do. That would make me feel so happy! Hopefully you get some hate mail from it.
Shoot … I loved the scarf post. Does that make me stupid?
Angela´s last blog ..that_angela: On traffic report last night, @660news called traffic jams the ‘Festival of Hazard Lights.’ That’s beyond brilliant. Well done.
Ha, and thank you! You? Stupid? Nofreakingway! You are lovely and kind. (And while you are not stupid, I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the first time anyone described you as lovely and kind – which by the way, I mean wholeheartedly. Feisty? Yes. Intelligent? Oh yea.)
Wow.. this lady is what my friends and I call “redic!” She clearly was having a bad day or something if she had to rant about a blogger’s scarf post?! haha
You know I love the scarf
And BTW Leah, Happy belated Birthday!
Christina´s last blog ..Feels like i just got the wind knocked out of me…
Thanks a lot Christina!
Hey – I sometimes write about scarves that I’ve knitted. Consider me stupid too
Jenn´s last blog ..The St. Jude Half is Almost Here
I’ll be sure to remind you of your stupidity next time you blog about scarves!!! (Just kidding, obviously!)
This girl is obviously jealous because a) you are cuter than her, and b) back in the day when we lived in T-dale, her boyfriend had a major crush on you.
… No comment ; >
I have one word for this person – LAME.
I agree that you should write about scarves for an entire week, you could call it “scarf week”.
Look for more scarf posts to come!
I suspect they found something they liked on your blog, to have found you in the first place.
Keep up the great posts. Keeping it real is what it’s all about.
Carol VR´s last blog ..Pecan Pie Cookies…
Thanks Carol. I wonder how long the person has read us for (or if they know us in real life) because they seemed to know exaaaactly who Erica is.
I love this blog, and read it faithfully. You are definately not stupid, because I thought it was a nice looking scarf and dont understand why someone would read a blog if they thought you were stupid… maybe they are just jealous?
Keep up the good blogs 5 Blondes!!!!!!
Thank you SO MUCH Bridget!
I’m guessing by the amount of vitriol directed at the intricacies of hair colour and a scarf, there are other deep seated issues going on in the background with this person. Hopefully they can get past these issues and be more enjoyable person to be around. But regardless, keep writing. I enjoy reading your blog ladies, whether the topic is about the little issues or the big issues in life. Cheers!
Vitriol? Not lying when I say I had to look up the definition and I vow to use it in a sentence this week. I think you are correct all around, and thanks for reading and commenting!
haha love this, way to put the hater in their place.
katelin´s last blog ..Hollywoodopoly.
Thanks Katelin!
what the flip? seriously…. what a lame comment little miss woodstock left.
Leah (and all the other BLONDES!), keep up the blogging! OBVIOUSLY people love what you write about… i mean look at how many people read and comment all the time.
guess it just goes to show you cant please everyone all the time.
Mich´s last blog ..Shopping, Shopping, Shopping!
You are right, and if we try to please everybody then we will probably not be pleasing ourselves. Happy moving day tomorrow!
Oh, that poor person. Since you know, they were forced to read the blog and to comment on it. They couldn’t just…go on with their life. Results 1 – 10 of about 2,700,000 for scarf blogs.
Eeeeexactly. Good thing you are on the intelligent side of the readers (which is all except said commenter)
I actually enjoyed the scarf post as I have a favourite one and I am a guy. I bought my scarf at BR in San Francisco and wear it with my favourite blue woolen coat. I wore it all around NYC last year. I’m even wearing it I noticed in my blog photo. Way to go five blondes, keep it up.
iHing´s last blog ..Why Mac?
It looks like scarves are on people’s minds more than we think! Thanks for your support : )
Wow….how dare you subject readers to such torture as writing about a scarf?! You are evil….
I really liked that post. I thought the scarf was really cute. Whoever wrote that comment was clearly having a bad day, or is just not very nice, and chose to take it out on you. Whatever the reason, this blog clearly has lots of supporters!!
Someties it is just hard to write about such a controversial subject such as scarves … a person can easily come across as evil.
Thanks for you comment!
Well I thoroughly enjoy this blog no matter what the topic of the particular post is! I don’t get this kind of behaviour from people. Didn’t their mamas ever tell them “if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all”" My mama did! No one holds a gun to their heads and makes them read this or any other blog. I haven’t had any nasty comments on my blog (yet) but there is someone on Facebook who keeps telling those of us on her friends list about the “rules of Facebook” – what you are and aren’t allowed to say on your status messages and how often you are allowed to post a new status. Just as no one forces anyone to read a blog, no one is forced to be my friend on Facebook and if they don’t like what I have to say, I wonder why they just don’t block me from their feed – quietly, without attempting to tick me off or hurt my feelings! The internet seems to make people feel that they no longer need to have basic manners. Sad.
