An Icebreaker

I often go to meetings and conferences that have “fun” icebreakers to assist people in getting to know each other. Personally, about 99% of the icebreakers that I take part in are not fun at all and provide me with feelings of anxiety and embarrassment! Not fun at all.

Yesterday, I had to do the typical “two truths and a lie” icebreaker. In doing it, I got so flustered that I said said two lies and a truth instead. I’ve decided that I need to prepare some in advance so that I can be prepared for the inevitable next time I have to do this activity.

So, dearest friends family and freaders, let’s see how well you know me! Here are my two truths and a lie.

1.) I have coached a snowboard racing team.

2.) I have run a marathon.

3.) I grew up in a trailer with my family.

Which one is a lie? Hmm… Share your two truths and a lie so you can be prepared for this icebreaker!

I know which one is a lie! But I don’t want to ruin it for everyone else..

Easssy! I won’t ruin it either though.
The other day I had to help make up (with a group) a skit, introducing ourselves in Dr. Seuss form. I hate that kind of thing too! We had to do it on a stage in an auditorium. Oh well… at least I didn’t get the Harlequin romance one.

I always get so flustered too! Even if it’s something easy like your name, where you’re from and your major. We had to do that for cheerleading.

Oh god I hate ice breakers. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t find them awkward and uncomfortable. Why do they still exist?

I HATE icebreakers like this, too! I always get very nervous and flustered and end up saying something totally lame. One time for a “get to know your floormates” in college, we had to share something “interesting” about ourselves, and I could think of nothing. For 5 minutes or so. It was even more awkward because I was the last person to go, so it wasn’t like they could just come back to me.
