Lately most of the world has been focusing on ‘greening’ up our lives, making it a better world for our future generations (and for us to enjoy too!). I have seen many articles and blog posts on this topic and wanted show you some wonderful things that I found! Reduce, reuse recycle
When going grocery shopping I make sure to always use my re-usable bags. I have 3 bags, 2 large ones and 1 smaller ones and my groceries always fit! I find myself getting mad inside when I see people using plastic bags, it’s so easy to switch over to re-usable bags, and much better for the earth.
One thing that still bugs me is the plastic bags that you put your fruit and vegetables in. I try not to use them, but sometimes you need to have something to keep your fruit together (who wants 5 peaches floating around in their grocery bags, not me). Then I came across this website that made their own string bag for produce at the grocery store! What a fantastic idea. I’ve yet to make one (Mom wanna lend me a sewing machine?)

The website has a step by step process for making the string bag, these are very simple to make! The fabric they used was tulle netting, in all sorts of fun colours!
The 2nd thing I found is on etsy. The shop is called thegreenmarket, and the owner basically makes refils for swiffer products that can be used over and over! I do like swiffer products but hate that it causes a lot of waste and this is a great solution. (Again I’m sure this would be very simple to make). Here’s an example of the duster product.

Kristal also had some great things to say about going green, make sure to check out what she does to help the planet!
Other things I do for the environment? Recycle. Use re-usable water bottles. Never leave my car running. Carpool. and that’s just to name a few.
There are so many simple ways to green up your life, what are you doing to help? Come on! Jump on the bandwagon!
And something to inspire you.

i hate plastic bags too, but where i live i need to get them so that i can use my green box ( i dont know if u guys have that system or not )
Oh wow. I LOVE that swiffer thing. I would be wary of how effective it is. As much waste as swiffer products do generate, it’s still the best product I’ve seen do what it does. Keeping my fingers crossed!!

great post kate! maybe you should do a “green update” every once in awhile with green products for us.
i’m so bad when it comes to using re-usable shopping bags. I’ve got loads of them all over the house, but never seem to plan grocery shopping (i’m a whim shopper) and so never have them with me. and I always feel like an idiot taking all those plastic bags out of the store. as well, i get SO mad when the grocery store person doesn’t pack them as full as possible. I just wanted to tell them to stop and i’ll do it.
long comment rant!
Allison- I will definitely try to do some updates on this! Also you should keep your bags in the car, that way you always have them!
what a great idea! I love the fruit bags and the swiffer thing… I also hate plastic bags. I use the ones we have now for garbage but I’m so glad they’re going out of style!
“Why didn’t I think of that?!”

Yay for green blog posts.
I use my road bike as often as possible to save $$ on gas, to be green and to make my calf muscles awesome. I biked to my hair appt this summer and my hair dresser was so annoyed with me! I was getting highlights and she didn’t approve of me putting a helmet on her masterpiece.
Really like the blog – I’ve never happened upon five cool sisters sharing a blog…I might borrow the idea with my own sis!
