Since I don’t have that exciting of a life right now, I was kind of waiting for my sisters with more exciting to blog… like, I don’t know, maybe the one who just got married and went to Vegas, a trip that we have heard nothing about yet? However, that does not seem to be happening so I’ll post my “weekly” Tuesday blog on a Monday evening. In point form.
1. The Jon & Kate Plus 8 drama. Since I love this family more than life itself, it’s breaking my heart a little bit. I hope that they can get it together. I loved them even more last night when I was watching it with Kent and during a scene with all kids he said to me, “Babe, let’s have kids.” Not that we were ever thinking of not having kids, but it was sweet that he felt the need to say it. I said that we will have kids when we have a bedroom to keep them in. He told me that that’s just material things and that we have lots of room and that hello, my parents raised 4 kids in a trailer. That’s true… but I bet he’d be singing a different tune if he was the one without a bedroom.
2. Wedding. It’s coming up FAST. It always seemed far away until Denis and Erica’s wedding. That was kind of the point that I started to panic a bit. From now on the weekends will be consumed with weddingy things. This weekend we have to get our Special Occasions Permit for our stag and doe, print off invitations and get them all ready to send, and meet with our priest again. It sucks that Kent is working so beyond ridiculously hard all week and has to spend his weekend driving back home and doing wedding chores with me, but hey, it wasn’t my idea to move two hours away… I’ll try to make it fun.
3. A newly engaged best friend. Congrats Michelle! And congrats to her fiance, who is also my friend (in fact I introduced them, in a sort of roundabout way.)
4. Cooks are crazy. Kent and I are trying to do lots of touristy things while we live in Toronto, so on Saturday we went to the ROM, toured around Yorkville and Kensington Market, and went to a restauraunt that apparently the cooks at his restaurant are all dying to go to – The Black Hoof. I like to think I’m adventerous when it comes to my food but this place was out there! Kent had to translate the menu for me and then find which few did not include any raw meat. I can’t do raw meat. It’s too weird. And wrong. So we got the charcuterie plate (which was excellent) and I got one of the only non-raw meat dishes, “Crispy Pig Ears with Scallops Chevice.” (Seh-vee-chay means cooked – my magic word – in oil, if I remember correctly. So you can feel smart if you ever see this on a menu.) Yes pig ears. They were actually good, if you pretended they were something else. Kent got some sort of veal tongue brioche – veal tongue in a sandwich, really. It was scary. He loved this place and I’m pretty sure he dreams about it now. So if you are an adventerous eater, you should check it out.

Reading about the dinner you had was too funny! We grew up eating beef tongue and it is still one of my favourites although it has been years. Kudos to you for trying the pig ears!!!
He loooved the tongue (and would love to eat it every day) so it must be good. For me it was pretty much pig ears or starve, but I’m glad I tried them.
Hope to see you at the stag and doe…!

oh man, that sounds so GROSS.
and re: Jon&Kate … I hate her, I hate him, and I feel overwhelming pity for their children. However, I’m a huge hypocrite, because the ’season premiere’ is set to DVR tonight.
For shame.

Hey Mic! Don’t stress about the wedding stuff it will all come together and everything will be perfect. Thanks for the shout out! And it’s true that Dane and I would not have met without you! Crazy how this world works huh? Anywho Love you!
I feel so bad for the kids! having everyone in the world know that their parents are going through what they are! Tonight’s episode almost made me cry it was sad!
Tell Kent he can borrow my apt. and my kids and see how much he likes it! haha.. right now we have Liam sleeping in his crib in our room.. ( sounds okay.. but it’s sooooo not! haha )
I don’t know if I’d try pigs ears, as we used to give them to our rottie! haha, he loved them though..
and while you were in Kensington, you were right where I used to live! ( Spadina & Dundas )
If you’re down there again, you should try out the village idiot.. its a pub type place, and really good! ( it’s right on Dundas by the AGO – between Spadina and University )
eww when I think of people eating animals tongues I think of when I bite my own tongue by accident, and it’s the grossest feeling in the world. Like hard to bite into.

I think you should wait to have children until we are living within a block of each other (or at least within an hour driving). But you and Kent are going to have the worlds cutest children, so you should probably get started early so you can have a million of ‘em.
I don’t love Jon and Kate (at all) but I did watch the premiere last night, and it seemed to me like they were going to get a divorce for real. Am I alone in that thought?
The Black Hoof sounds really intense. Maybe even too intense for Timbo.
