I’ve gotten some requests to blog about this story so here goes!
I’m not much of an animal lover but I have some serious love for my cat, Dragon Baby. I’ve had him for about five years, although he lives on the farm with my parents. I was visiting for a couple days and yesterday my dad came in the house to see me and asked, “Have you seen Dragon Baby lately?” Turns out he had seen an orange cat resembling mine that had been hit by a car down the road. So of course I looked for Dragon throughout the house and didn’t see him anywhere. I hopped on a bike and very nervously biked down the road. As I got closer and closer the cat looked more and more like Dragon. I got off my bike, looked closer and sure enough it looked exactly like him. Sadly, I biked back home and told my dad the sad news, and we drove the truck over to pick up his body.
My dad took a look at him and agreed that he looked an awful lot like Dragon. We brought the body home and dad started digging a grave. We talked about my cat and how wonderful he was (well, I did, dad said things like “Dragon was a real whiny cat!”), and I thought about how he followed us around on Erica’s wedding day and how I had been looking forward to that on my wedding day, and now it wouldn’t happen.

I went inside to get my mom to tell her the sad news and to come outside for the funeral, when strangely enough, Leah called. She loved Dragon too so she was very saddened by the news. I talked to her as we laid Dragon’s body in the ground and covered it with dirt.
After the funeral, my mom and Katelyn’s husband Scott both mentioned that for various reasons they weren’t convinced that the cat had been Dragon. “I wouldn’t be surprised if he showed up at the front door,” said my mom. Dad and I both told her she was wrong. The thing is, mom doesn’t even like cats and doesn’t pay attention to either Dragon Baby or their other cat.
But sure enough, half an hour later as my mom was fitting my wedding dress on me (I know, but I had to move on with my life), Scott called out, “Mic? Come here.” I did.. and guess who was at the front door? DRAGON! Happiest moment of my life. I ran outside and scooped him up, and said I was going to find dad to show him. Scott and my mom thought the situation was hilarious and didn’t want to miss dad’s reaction so they came along. He was suitably shocked.
So now we have an orange cat that is definitely not ours buried in the backyard. I guess I need to go home more often and look at Dragon a little more closely. Sorry, Dragon.

Ahem, other side of the story:
I was laying in bed before work, when Dragon Baby came and visited me. We hung out for a while, he meowed in response while I asked him questions about how he was doing that morning, as we do every morning before work. Before Kate came to pick me up for work I let him outside because he loves to whine about going outside and inside about 100x per day. Both Kate and I saw Dragon Baby in the garage bidding us farewell as we drove away, then we saw the dead cat on the road, and Kate said “well, at least we know that’s not Dragon Baby!” And I agreed.
Later, while working in the field, Kate gets a call from Scott telling her this story, and we die from laughter while sitting in a corn field.
Dragon is now known as “our dead cat”, and “the cat that can resurrect”

I’m still laughing sooooo hard! We’ll never be able to get rid of that damm cat. Kidding, kidding, you have to love a cat who meows “thank you” every single time you let him in the house.

Okay, I totally got all choked up about the cat and was so upset telling the office staff about your cool cat. I’m so glad to hear he’s okay and feel sorry that I laughed about the strange cat now buried in your yard.
