The Micaelaest.

Until the last few years, my name has been so rare that I’ve always loved telling people my name because the reaction is always something like “WOW! That is a beautiful name!” It has gotten to the point that I wait for that reaction. Sometimes people tell me that I should immediately go thank my mother for naming me Micaela (thanks mom). To me, it’s just my name, I can’t love it or hate it, but I do think that I like it. I’ve always loved being the only Micaela because I don’t associate my name with anything other than myself, the things I like, and the things I do. It probably sounds a little silly, but it’s true! I’ve always been the most Micaelaest person, to me, and to other people too. I love when people say (and I hear it a lot), “That’s very Micaela.”

Now the name is catching on, and there is a lot of young children with my name. the response is always something more like, “That’s a beautiful name! That’s my niece’s name!” I don’t really mind, and working in an elementary school, I love to meet all of these young Micaelas, which are never spelt the same way as mine, by the way. I’ve met a couple now, and it’s interesting to see what another Micaela/Michaela/McKayla/Mikayla… (you get the idea) might be like.

I am thankful that I’ll always be one of the only people around my age with my name. This is just me: first a daughter and a sister, then a girlfriend and a fiance, very soon a teacher and a wife and always, always, the Micaelaest.

Growing up I always wished my mum had named me Micaela.. I think it was beacuse of Dr.Quinn Medicine Woman.. hahah.. and actually Liam was going to be Michaela if he didn’t have a penis.

I have a friend with the same name, though she has an h in there. She HATES her name, which makes me sad, bc I think it is such a nice name. She says she was teased when she was younger because of it. Also, it is her mother and her grandmother’s middle names, but was given to her as a first name. Apparently her grandmother wanted M to use the name for her future daughter, but she’s refusing…
