The wedding is drawing closer (my bridesmaid Michelle P informed me on Saturday night that it was 217 days away – how’s that for a bridesmaid that’s on the ball!), and Kent is moving even further away from me in a couple weeks (4 hours – booo) right after our trip to Calgary (yay! A whole week with Kent? Craziness). I realized that we really need to do our engagement pictures as soon as possible, as in hopefully while we still live together on weekends, or before Kent gets caught up in restaurant insanity in Toronto, and works every day of the week.
Considering our town seems like the snow capital of the world, especially this year, this only means one thing: Engagement photos out in the cold and snow. I’m not sure shivering is my best look. I’ve been looking at winter engagement photos online to see what I should wear. I’ve decided that it does not look very good when couples are standing in the snow wearing just a shirt or even sweater – they mostly just look cold! Luckily, I have the most beautiful black dress coat to wear. Leah has the same one and she can attest to the fact that you can’t wear it anywhere without multiple people complimenting you on it. It’s even better that it’s a few seasons old now and still in style to the max! Hmm… I just read a suggestion that since you are the bride, you could wear white for your photos. I like the idea of wearing a white coat. Here are some other ideas I’ve seen that I like.
There’s a cute coffee shop in town where we could do something like this:

Love this couple and her coat:

This coat is awesome as are the red boots! All of this couple’s engagement photos looked so much fun and they looked so happy. Happy engagement photos are where it’s at.

This couple was laughing in 90% of their photos, which I loved.

Sledding!

I’ll leave it at that – hopefully mine turn out just as great!

You mean to tell me that those great shots that I see in most engagement photos aren’t spontaneous occurances?!?!? They’re pre-planned poses requested by the bride & groom? I’m shattered!!

All these photos are gorgeous, leaving you with plenty of options for your winter engagement photos! The only thing I don’t like is the pair of black leather boots in the Ruthmann photo – well actually the boots are cool, but I wouldn’t wear them in my engagement photos, I think they make a really different statement than the rest of the picture that is more earthy and natural. Just my babbling. I’m sure your photos will be great!

I actually thought the exact same thing Saver Queen! I really hate her boots with the outfit that she paired it with. Plus I think the boots-over-jeans look dates the photo because that’s a trendy style that probably won’t be fashionable in the future! But that is neither here nor there.
What IS here AND there is that these are all great photo ideas, and I’m sure your photographer will have some good creative ideas too

you could also do like an ice skating pic too, that’d be cute in a “winter” theme.
or building snowmen… cheesey but kinda cute.
Apparently you need to hire this Anne Ruthman, because her pics are so amazing.

Love the winter idea, although spring in some of the toronto parks would be really nice. you do have a great little town to do some winter pictures, like down by the falls or have you ever been up on that trail that has the old railway bridge? and it would remind you of where you first lived. I like the skating idea too…
Winter photos! So fun!
Definitely a coat. White would be fun…is there a friend who has a white one you can borrow? Unless you feel like investing in a new coat i suppose!
I think the sledding one is cute, but it definitely looks posed. The last time I saw someone in a leather coat and jeans going down a hill was a rental person…you know what I’m saying!
Ice skating? Adorable. I wonder if our pond is frozen yet that you could use?
Oh! I remembered something else
I really like the girl with her coat and purse on because it kind of seems like the paparrazi just caught her and her man out doing their everyday things like being madly in love!
Can you do snow angels in one picture? I think that’d be really funny! But make sure it’s the last picture or else your pants will be soaked for the rest…. PS – I think this is also a fabulous excuse to go shopping for a cute winter coat
So many great ideas for your pictures! Can only hope that you’ll post some here for all of us to swoon over.

@Stef – hahaha – snow angels are great idea, but yeah, no soggy-butt pictures will do.

Reply Time!
@Fragileheart – Disappointing, no? Then again Kent and I actually do look like any of those couples on a regular basis.
@Saverqueen & @Laura – I actually really like those shoes on her! I think that she seems like a really down to earth girl and probably bought those boots just for these pics and was so excited about them. I could be totally wrong, but that’s how the story goes in my head.
@Jaime – The couple in the third picture were actually running to the ice skating rink and those pics were really good too. It’s a possibility…
@Dut – I know… Shipping a photog here is out of the question unfortunately!
@LJ – We LOOOOVE that bridge! That’s where we want to do them.
@Allison – haha.. I definitely don’t want to be a Jean Machine, good call. I was thinking the EXACT same thing about the girl’s purse! Definitely makes it look way more natural.
@Stef – I was looking at snow angel pics and I actually didn’t like them that much. I think snow angels only look good after the people are off of them, unfortunately.

I agree with Er.
Can’t wait to see the pictures. I always love pictures that take the norm out of the box.

I LOVE LOVE them! They are all so cute and unique and so, so … Micaela! I love the purse one the most I think, and coming in a close second the coffee shop one!

That one is my fave too Leah. I got a purse like that! From Jacob, the one that Lauren liked but vetoed for the bigger one. It’s on sale for $25 and Laur you’ll be happy to know that yours is not on sale.

Yess. Am very happy. I am also thrilled with mine. It’s so much better than straps on your shoulder always falling off, plus it fits my books and laptop.
