Canadian Idol

Canadian Idol is holding their auditions once again. In addition to the traditional in-person auditions they are trying something a bit different this year: “Last chance auditions” - online auditions! You record your video, and send it to them and they put them on the website so everyone can watch them! I’m not sure if they put all of them up, and I actually doubt that they do because there were probably so many sent in. We actually know someone who is on the site- she sang Oh Canada for her song. They had to sing specific songs, but I’m not sure how many there were to choose from because I don’t see the rules posted anymore (the contest is closed). As an alternative I think you could have written your own song, which is what my two favourites did! Here is a bit more information that I found.

I actually tried out for Canadian Idol years and years ago. In grade 12, my best friend and I took the bus to Toronto and waited in line forever and sang, and didn’t make it. It was fun thought. I think our problem was that we definitely didn’t sing the right song. I didn’t pick my song until I was in line, and kept thinking of songs, and then realized that I didn’t think I knew all the words. Looks like I won’t be found in the limelight any time soon!

Anyways! Here are some videos that I liked. You need to click through to the next page because they kinda mess up our formatting.

I think these two should go on, I’m not sure how they decide who goes on.

I love the tone of this girls voice, and love that she wrote this song! I could easily see getting it stuck in my head.

This is what was on the Canadian Idol website about this performer:

Read please!!! Hi, my name is Kellie Loder and I’m a nursing student. The song I have written reflects the lives of the ill that I can see right from my dorm room window and into their hospital rooms. The song talks about how we can be selfish sometimes and overlook the most important things in life, when others would do anything to find their sense of self again. Please consider my audition and my talent because I am confident that I can touch the hearts of many people with my music and that I would be the greatest Canadian Idol yet. p.s. I hope you aren’t sick of watching these vids by the time you get to mine. haha. Plese give me the chance. My talent needs to be shown to the world, instead of boxed up in a dorm room. Thank you, Kellie Loder

I just wandered into your blog while browsing and this is great! Do you think you will try out again? You should…and blog the entire experience.

I’ve only missed one year of Canadian Idol, when I was living in the US and just couldn’t get it down there. My favourite shows are the early ones, with the kids who don’t get to the top anything. I just feel so proud and happy to see so many young people putting so much into getting something they want.

I definitely love the second video. The first one is nice but I just love Kellie. I’m honestly regretting not trying out this year… I mean I haven’t been able to apply since the first season because they always held the Toronto auditions during an exam of mine(!!) and of course then last year I was in Ireland. This is the first year that nothing was standing in my way… oh well. Thanks for sharing these, Kate!

Kathy- Perhaps someday I might try out again, if I can persuade people to go with me.

Laura- I like the later shows better because I get annoyed at all the people who are horrible singers that they put through just for enjoyment, what about all those good people that they had to turn away!

fragile- I think I like the first one so much because it’s kinda folk-ish and growing up with that music made me love it.
