Can you really KNOW? +12 weeks

in Scott & Kate Plus One, pregnancy

A woman I work with recently found out I was pregnant, and her response was “I knew it”. I assumed that she was gossiping with two other co-workers, because before I announced it at work they were guessing I was pregnant. But the woman, Sue, said nope, I probably knew the moment you conceived. It’s just this thing she has, she knows when people are pregnant. Sue then went on to tell me that she also (thinks she) knows the weight and name (and the gender) of the baby and is going to write it down and see if she is right. Insane right?

I was in such shock when she told me that. I mean I guess you can always guess at the weight, and gender, but to say that you even have a name in mind is pretty crazy and cool if she was right. In my mind I’m like hey, maybe she should just tell me the name and then we don’t have to decide! But really I want to wait to hear it until we have the baby and then I tell her. She already told me she won’t tell me (which is good), but now every time I see her I will want to ask!

Do you think people can actually know things like that? A different co-worker also told me that she knows this guy who can walk by a woman and knows the gender of her baby, with 99% accuracy. Is that really possible? How can someone just know? People say there are clues, but to be right 99% of the time is pretty nuts.

This week I’m 12 weeks pregnant (as of Monday July 6th). And still feeling sick. I am throwing up every morning basically as soon as I’m awake, and there is no stopping it. So pretty much that sucks, but I’ll get through it. Everyone keeps saying, it’s worth it. And obv I know it’s worth it, but man it sucks! I find that I can eat mostly everything, but in really small portions, and I still get grossed out by hamburgers and now I can add bananas to that list.

I can tell that my body is changing, and I’ve been taking belly photos but the little bump is totally not a real baby bump, it’s just a bloat bump. All my clothes fit as normal, although I am more comfortable in stretchy clothes, they aren’t really necessary at this point. I must admit that I bought maternity pants a few weeks ago. I was very hesitant to try them on but by the urging of a pregnant friend (who is 3 weeks ahead of me!) I tried them on and loved them. So I’m not really wearing them yet, but they are an option for later on.

I skipped posting a few weeks in there, because they all look the same, however slllowwllyy things are changing!

Also to answer some questions from my first post.
Laura- yes that is my pee stick.
Kasia- we are going to wait to find out the gender. However I’m realizing that this may kill me because I feel like I can’t buy any clothes because either I love all the girly ones or the really boyish ones.
doahleigh- yes, this is the first Baby Blonde! This will be the first grandchild for both sets of parents and the first great-grandchild for most of the grandparents.

Oh it’s very possible to know! I’ve only predicted two pregnancies so far, but I know my gift is getting stronger. Sometimes I can just sense when a girl is pregnant. On our way home from a mother’s day lunch last year I told Matt his sister was pregnant. Turns out she was maybe a day pregnant when I told him that! Weird, huh? I just had this feeling she was with child! haha.

The second time was a wife of one of Matt’s clients. We saw them at a festival and I told Matt after we talked to them that in a month they’d be telling people they were pregnant. What were they doing in a month? Announcing their pregnancy!

You ought to google “Chinese Birth Chart”. It is often VERY accurate at predicting the sex.

SHUT UP I did NOT just look at pictures of my lil sisters baby bump!
As for predicting…I am a skeptic when it comes to this type of thing! I *did* correctly guess the sex of a friends baby…however I guessed she was having a boy only because everyone else at the baby shower was guessing girl!

the Chinese test never worked for me, but it might work for you ( as Carold VR suggested )

BUT as of right now I’m going to go with Boy.. haha..
when you get to about 20-25 weeks, post a picture and I’ll tell you for sure what you’re having.

old wives tales :
~ weight gain just in the tummy area, boy
~ weight gain everywhere, girl ( they say she “steals” your beauty ~
~ heartburn – lots of hair

take your ring and a strand of hair, and hold it over your belly and if it goes in a circle its a boy, and if it goes back and forth its a girl.

Oh I’m so glad you’re posting belly pics – FUN! It will be so nice for you to look back later and see how you looked at different stages of pregnancy too.

You know, I want to be a skeptic about predicting whether or not a woman is pregnant (and I AM a skeptic that your coworker knows what name you’ll pick, but it’ll be fun to find out later won’t it!?) but when my friend became the first in my circle to get pregnant, I had a hunch that she was knocked up before she even knew. I never told her that until she told me later that she was pregnant, but I remember thinking back to the day I saw her and just had a sense that she was pregnant. And I was right. I still don’t know what it was about her that day that made me think she was carrying a baby, but there was something.

Not sure I have a gift for “knowing” that though. Maybe it was just a one-time intuition thing.

Well the Chinese Birth Chart says both you and Mic were supposed to be boys-fail! I am the least intuitive person I know- baby wise anyhow, having asked at least one person when she was due, and finding out that she had the baby 3 months previously. That’s a bad thing to do and people tend to harbour anger over things like that! Enjoy the experience and feel free to call me during your panic attack in the middle of the night a week before “our” bundle of joy is due, when you finally REALLY realize that there are only two ways the baby is going to emerge, and neither of them is painfree!

YOU LOOK SO GOOD!
I remember both my sisters hating the first 4-5 months because they felt they just looked bloated rather than pregnant.
I hope you start feeling better soon. In the mean time, I say bring on the maternity clothes while you can!!!

These are so cool!! I love them- congratulations again!

I love how people get all superstitious about babies and want to feel included, so they invent all these ‘powers’ they have. I would take it as a complement that they want to be part of what’s going on with you, and laugh off the rest.

You look fantastic! I couldn’t hide being pregnant even at 8 weeks with our girls. When I was two months pregnant with Rachel, we had a family get together and everyone who walked in the door knew just by looking at me. I was the opposite of the wives tales – I was only belly and had two girls. I carried completely like a basketball with both of them. And I totally think you can ‘know’ you are pregnant, but have never experienced ‘knowing’ someone else was. I knew I was pregnant both times about 2 weeks after I conceived. Good luck with the pregnancy!

Okay.. so.. this happened to me when I was pregnant. Everyone EVERYWHERE I went would guess what we were having and, yup, everyone was RIGHT (boy!). I asked what made them know and they said that I looked like I was hiding a basketball and that the rest of me didn’t look much different. So, maybe the old wives tales are correct?

Either way, I’m new to this blog, so Congratulations!!!! Life will never be the same again, but you won’t want it any other way. :)

PS – I blogged my entire pregnancy if you are curious of what is to come.

PSS – My boy is also the first grandchild for all 4 sets of parents AND the first great-grandchild for all 4 sets of great-grandparents! My advice? Start setting some boundries now! Haha!

I’m guessing boy, but only because your family is all girls too. That, and everyone one seems to be having boys right now. My baby group is full of little boys.

i’ve been lurking on this blog for months and haven’t commented. i’m in love with the concept of this blog-keeping you five sisters united. i love it.
i had to comment on this post in particular though because i have this weird thing where i too have predicted people’s pregnancies several times before they themselves knew about it.
i can’t predict gender or weight, and certainly not the name of the baby either though. haha. it will be interesting to see if she is correct!
why is this lady not working as a psychic?

Ooh, we do the ring on a string/hair thing too (and here I was thinking it was a Polish thing?).

I think you’re right to not ask your coworker what she thinks it is. What if it’s the one time that she’s wrong? Eep! Everyone and their dog thought my brother and his wife were having a boy (just a feeling we had) and when Ella popped out, it took us all a couple days to get used to the idea.

p.s. Love the pics too.
