Let’s face it. You can’t avoid the election talk today, not even on this Canadian blog. I’ll keep it short and sweet: My American friends, I hope you voted. Like I tweeted this morning, “To all my American friends so excited about voting: your passion is exciting! Inspiring! Contagious! Keep it up!”
It really is contagious. So many of my (predominantly Canadian) friends on Facebook have devoted their statuses to their candidate of choice or simply using their status to remind Americans to vote (‘early and often’ as Canucklehead put it!). My status invites you to cast your “World Vote” – non-Americans, go! Vote!
I’ve been reading a book called The Drunkard’s Walk: How Randomness Rules Our Lives (giving me the perfect reason to use our “random” category). When I bought it I didn’t realize that there would be so much mathematical theory that would sail miles over my head, but thankfully much of it is at a level I can understand. It’s about, well, randomness in everything from sports, to medicine, to polling, and more. I happen to have just finished the section on polling and margins of error that uses a mayoral election as an example. Margin of error is a scary thing. Polling results can say one thing pre-election, and you can end up with something else after the votes are counted.
NONETHELESS.
I have a lot of hope that America will make a wise choice and I’ll be clicking right here all night until I know for sure. Don’t let us down!
My friend who lives in Baltimore had to wait 1 1/2 hours to vote – there were an estimated 150 people in front of her.
When I voted in our Canadian PM election, I also waited in the longest lineup I had ever seen at our polling station – there were 2 people in front of me!
Same in France, everyone seems to be inspired by the enthusiasm that shines out of the US election!
Now… let’s just keep our fingers crossed and hope that O-BA-MA climbs all the way to glory and CHANGE!
xx
It is a very exciting day here in the US. Two of my coworkers announced that they voted for the first time today, one was an immigrant, the other just a stupid soul who never got involved. But either way, an exciting fete.
And I have no idea how my email address got into the website field.

I hope Obama wins!
Palin scares the crap outta me.. I feel sorry for the u.s. if she’s voted in.. actually I’m scared for the whole world if she is.
Well, it’s over and it’s good! Thanks for weighing in. It was great to watch last night.
I’m sorry I’m not interested in all this but I am glad he won! I would’ve voted for him too and I had a feeling he would win (based only on the last few days though – not the entire year of campaigning).
Fingers crossed!!
