I’ve never been much of a shoe girl. At 5′8″, I am pretty tall for most heels out there and my feet and ankles are skinny meaning that most straps don’t fit me and the shoes look silly. When gladiator sandals first became popular they quickly became my best friend, because not only are they flat but with the straps they can be made bigger or, in my case, as small as possible. Plus I just love love love the look of them.
I decided to put an end to my anti-heel feelings because I have an occasion coming up that I want to wear heels for. Another problem is that when I go to the mall I just get distracted by all the dresses! I love dresses and right now is the perfect time to dress shop! So after trying on way too many dresses and not allowing myself to buy any even though they were all perfect and beautiful, I ended up with these:
They are from Nine West and I am very very happy with them. I love the clunkiness of them and they look really good with skinny jeans. The salesgirl and I were trying to decide between nude (which I tried on first) and black but as soon as I tried them on we were both like BLACK! So black it was.
Here are the nude, what do you think? The dress I’m wearing them with is black and white.
I also got these. Just cheap casual gladiatorish sandals from American Eagle.

So… tell me what you think!

5′8 and not loving heels? Do you hang out with lots of shorter people? I’m 5′7 and a half and I absolutely love the height heels give me. If it weren’t for my poor gait and need for comfort, I’d wear 2-3 inch heels everywhere! I’d love to be taller!
I love the gladiators, too. My vote goes for black.

I’m so very jealous! I am always steered in the opposite direction of Nine West by a certain nameless man…
The black is gorgeous, good choice!
I Love them in black!
and if my husband wouldn’t kill me, i’d buy them! hahaha
Jaime - pshhhh… he’ll love them and then quickly forgive you. PLUS they are on sale for half price. Kent told me very sincerely that they were awesome.
Erica - never go shoe shopping with a man! Or any sort of shopping for yourself.
Lisa - It probably has a lot to do with the comfort factor as well… who knows really! I guess I just feel ridiculously tall in them.. but I can get over that!
I love them in brown, but I think for a black and white dress the black is better!! Good choice Micaela!
Love the black!!!

Definitely think that for a black & white dress, you made the right choice going with black instead of tan.
Not sure I’m feeling the clunkiness if you’re pairing it with a dress though. I would personally opt for something a little more elegant and less chunky. But with skinny jeans, I think they would be fabulous.

Micaela, I would love to be able to do that but with my hubby in school full-time for another year and me being a stay at home mum, he’d kill me for sure! hahaha
Aww well, maybe next year!!!
