I’ve decided to go along with Mic’s music theme. Music has always been a huge part in our lives (side note. When writing the word part does anyone ever just add a “y” on the end without thinking? Yea I just did that and it made me jealous that my keyboard was having a party without me.). When Erica was in grade 4, we were all going to the same school (maybe I wasn’t in school yet, but you get the idea.), and mom had heard about this music school that you had to audition for, which started at grade 5, and went until grade 8. So Erica tried out, and made it. Er’s first couple of month’s weren’t that great at this school I guess, and when it came time for Micaela to try out, she saw how Er wasn’t having a great time, so she didn’t want to try out. Although Kate decided that she wanted to try out when she was in grade 4, and Leah and I soon followed.
I should probably explain a bit more about this school. St. Marys was a “choir and orchestra” school. This meant that we obviously had to sing in our audition, but we also had to learn a stringed instrument. Erica played cello, Kate played violin, Leah played viola, and I played the cello, but then in grade 6 I switched to bass. There were 60 kids in each grade, with 30 in each class. The school had uniform days, which consisted of black shoes, blue knee socks, a gray, burgundy and blue kilt, a blue v neck sweater, a white button up, and a burgundy, white and blue striped tie. Nice mental picture eh? Here’s more to add-the kilts had to last us from grade 5 to grade 8, which is where a lot of your growing happens. In grade 5 the kilts were almost always down to your calves. Aaand a better mental picture. We also had concerts at different holidays, and held masses. In grades 5 and 8 your grade did a play. When I was in grade 5 I did The Elephant’s Child, (I was a baboon!), and in grade 8 my class did Anne of Green Gables. I believe Leah did Godspell in grade 8, and Kate’s grade 8 class did Bye Bye Birdie, but I’m not sure about anything else. The girls can fill you in in the comments!
Anyways, the whole point of this post is to explain how important music is to everyone in our family. We have been in the choir at church since I can remember, and someone is always singing at an anniversary or a wedding. I don’t know about anyone else, but you know how you always see that girl sitting in her car alone belting out the words to a song on the radio? Yea, that is sooo me! And sometimes playing the drums on my dashboard/steering wheel, and dancing crazy, just to bug Kaylee. My roommate Kaylee is always laughing at me because I am always singing to her, and making her watch musicals with me.
I recently heard a song that quickly became a new favourite, and got added into the “faves” list on my itunes. It’s a song by a group called Bomshel. I just went to their website and found this: “Bomshel is: The joy that comes with letting down your guard and being yourself, no matter how wild, silly or serious you may feel at any given moment.” Which I think is an awesome motto for a group, especially a girl duo group. This song is about loving yourself and not letting anyone or anything define who you are or what you can become. I suggest you all give this song a listen!
Other songs in my “faves” playlist on itunes include:
The Galway Girl -Steve Earle
These Days -Rascal Flatts
Telluride -Tim McGraw
Mrs. Robinson -Simon & Garfunkel
Summer Girl -Stereos
Dead Flowers -Miranda Lambert
And obviously, Fight Like a Girl -Bomshel
But other than those, I listen to pretty much anything by Missy Higgins, Serena Ryder, Miranda Lambert, The Good Lovelies, Great Big Sea, and *ahem*MileyCyrus*ahem*. Anywayyyyys…

Oh, but just so this isn’t alllll text and no cuteness, here is a little kitten for you to love. Everyone, meet Tequila Monroe, more commonly known as “t-mo”, or “keedoe!” Prepare for cuteness overload:

Clearly soo excited about the hugely cute gray body/white back paws!

This was the first time she came up and slept on my chest. Definitely not the last since she is even there right now.

Aaron came into my room to play with her, then put her on my back, where she stayed, crawled around, and slept anywhere from my butt to my neck for about 2 hours. I love cats sleeping on my back. I must have like 10 pictures of Herman and DB3 sleeping on my back.

Oh heddooooo litte one!

High five for being cute! We took this about…30 seconds ago.
Okay, enough with t-mo for now. Favourite songs anyone? I love hearing different songs! Favourite pictures of cute kittens are welcome too!
oh ps. I added some of my own favourite links along the right side over there. Hope you all enjoy them as much as I do!

I discovered Bombshel back in university with “Absolutely Finger-Lickin, Grits and Chicken, Country Music Love Song”! I used to sing that song alllll the time!
Now I’m going to go see if I can dig it up on my old desktop school computer. Desk top?! How lame!
I loved that song! I listened to it in bed and it pumped me up pretty good for the day.
And cats sleeping on my back is my most favourite feeling!
I drive a lot for work and I am always rocking out in some way. I sang and danced for 2 hours with Tim when we went to Lake Louise a few weeks ago. HE laughed at me the whole way but I had a lot of fun
Stop that. You’re making me want a kitten.
Galway Girl is a great song, we played it at the wedding. Try Fairytale of New York City by the Pogues too. It’s really fun to sing as a duet.
ummm.. Now and Forever by Blue Rodeo.

@Allison: I love that song by them too!
@Leah: Yea, Kayl always laughs at me too, but I just keep doing it to bug her!
@Mic: Fairytale of New York is another favourite of mine! Dear Ps, I Love You, thank you for all these awesome songs! Downloading Now and Forever right now!

Listened and loved!
My favourite FiveBlondes music memory is of y’all belting out “Cecelia” in the van with the windows down. How could I ever let you sing a song that goes “makin love in the afternoon with Cecelia up in my bedroom” (with you singing “makinnnn loveeee” in the background) !!!!!!! You did always love all Simon and Garfunkel tunes though.
I seem to remember belting out ‘leavin on a jet plane’ with at least one of you blondes on a chair lift once.
WOW! I love the idea behind this blog! You guys totally rock!
