I’ve moved past coffee cup conundrums and onto a new one, along with the one called there’s a freak snowstorm and I’m stuck at my parent’s house on a Saturday night.
So instead I will blog. Because I need some help.
You might remember that I went shopping a month or so ago and found a dress that I absolutely loved:
Let’s call her Dress#1. The back goes down super low (which I love) and a big random flower (also love).
Well I went back today just to be sure, and I was so sure that I wasn’t going to find anything better that I only invited my mom to come along with me. I tried on a few that were the same style as Dress#1 and I did like them but not as much. Then I saw one on a mannequin that was completely different. I don’t like your average wedding dress because I find that they are all very similar and whenever anyone goes to a wedding and I ask what the bride’s dress looked like they say “I don’t know… poufy… strapless…” At the same time I understand it because you go into a wedding dress store and this is what ALL the dresses look like. It’s hard to find something different. Except for a small section of grecian style dresses that I bolt towards.
Anyways, Dress#2 is more of your average wedding dress and this picture does NOT do it justice but I have to show it to you anyways because wedding stores are lame and don’t let you take pictures so it’s all I have:
The fabric on the bottom is actually more crinkly and less perfect than the picture suggests. I hate the skirt in the picture but love it in real life.
So you probably think I’m nuts because the dresses are so totally different and that’s the problem, I can’t even combine elements of the two at all. So I’m going to do a pro and con list.
DRESS#1
Pros:
1. It is the most comfortable dress I’ve ever worn. Seriously amazing.
2. It’s really different from the average wedding dress.
3. It’s not heavy.
4. It’s not strapless so I don’t have to worry about that aspect.
5. It goes with the theme and colours of my wedding: bright pink, bright yellow and a casual, fun vibe.
6. I love it!
Cons:
1. The amazing, comfortable fabric that it is made out of might be hard to find? (because my mom is making it). Maybe it won’t be hard to find though.
2. I might regret not having a big poufy dress on the one night that I can? Then again I won’t have many chances to wear a dress like this again, either.
3. …it’s not the other dress?
DRESS #2:
Pros:
1. It’s so pretty!
2. It’s very bride-like.
3. Everyone in the store loved it and I even made a stranger’s mom cry.
4. I love it!
5. It’s really, really, really flattering.
Cons:
1. It’s not very different which is what I thought I wanted in my wedding dress, and still think I may want. Or maybe not. Who knows.
2. … it’s not the other dress? I guess either way I will have to give up on something I like, which is a bit disappointing, but either way I will also get something that I love.
So, readers, I need your two cents. Talk to me about everything that went through your head while choosing a wedding dress or with the choice you ended up making. Or if you aren’t married, tell me what you know about wedding dresses. And of course give me your opinions on these.
Real life friends, I need you to come to Nicholas and Elizabeth with me in a couple Saturdays so you can see the second dress in person which actually does it justice and help me make a rational decision.

Micaela, no matter what you wear you will look fabulous in it, Kent will adore you and it will be the best day/night of your life. I will come to see it whenever you want, however I think that you already know which one you really want. Sleep on it and which ever one pops in your head first tomorrow might help decide things.
Dress number #2 i think is the one..
more and more people are going for that ” non traditional” wedding dress, so #1 is more of the one most worn now.
and it’s your wedding day, you have ( well you dont HAVE to ) wear a dress that is totally different than a dress that you could / would wear on a daily basis and that’s what dress # 1 seems like to me ( although it is beautiful) it just doesn’t scream ” walking down the asile to meet the man I’m gonna marry” dress, it’s more of a ” I’m at a formal occasion” kinda dress… if that makes any sense to you?!?!
I still like dress # 1 the best.. Dress #2 actually reminds me of my own (take the top half and cut it off add a plain skirt and you have your gown (and add a sash)…
I’ll have to see it on though.

Michelle – I really honestly can’t decide. Although I just showed Kent and he loved the second and liked the first but didn’t think it was very bridal. Darn.. I shouldn’t have done that because it just made it more difficult for me! Not to mention now my wedding is jinxed!
Jaime – That does make sense and I do agree with you that it seems more “walking down the aisle-y” but maybe that’s just because it’s what we are used to seeing people wear while walking down the aisle. I really haven’t seen anyone wearing any like the first one in real life.
Kate – Yeah I can see what you mean.. I think it looks way different in person though. Nothing like yours.. well you’ll see.

Well I don’t really think you should be rational or analytical about this decision. You can’t be. Go with your heart!
For me, I knew which one I wanted because I just didn’t want to take it off, ever. Did you get that feeling with one of them? It was like falling in love. I just *knew*.

Hi,
I have been reading your blog for a while but have never commented before. Thought I would share my two cents.
I think this is a very tough choice. I love dress number one for the same reasons you do. It unconventional. That’s what I would be looking for in a wedding dress. It looks light and flowy and very comfy.
I also like dress number two. The bow does it for me. Perhaps you should go back and try on both dresses with a bigger audience and decide which dress makes you feel more like a bride…
It’s times like this you wish you could have one dress for the actual wedding and the second dress for the reception
Good luck.
Great choices
Well, if you had CALLED me I could have BEEN there yesterday to offer my opinion…heck, we were downtown yesterday afternoon!! JEEEEEZ…
I’m sure you looked great in the “Whitney” dress (not too fond of the name btw) but I still like the first better right now.
Mr X thinks that the first one is a more “Micaela” dress and would also like to point out that considering the date of your wedding, you will probably be more comfortable in #1.
You are going to look amazing no matter what you wear, but I adore #2. It’s so classic and perfect.

Hey Mic,
So I like both dresses, but seem to see you MORE in dress number 1…
Plus August is a hot month, would dress #2 be much heavier and warmer?
I personally know nothing about wedding dress shopping, so I am basing the only on what I think is practical, and I would hate a warm heavy dress in 30 degree weather.
BUT you will look Amazing in both dresses. But I think #1 is more you…
Mic, did them not letting people take pictures ever stop us? I want to see them on you!

I guess this question would be for your mamma, but which one is easier to make?
I think the key is figuring out which dress you feel you look more beautiful in.

Dress number 1 is my vote!

I really like the first dress. It’s simple and chic and not the usual dress. Plus it looks like it’s a good cut–one with no need to panic about pre-wedding weight. I haven’t done it (or started it) yet but I feel like during the planning process, you could lose or gain depending on stress levels and who needs to worry about hiding a pound when it’s all said and done?

Wow Mic. I love both of them, and I can see why you are having trouble deciding. It always helps me when I make decisions is , which dress am I going to regret NOT wearing. Which one is going to haunt me forever because i will never get another chance to wear it. I think they both are unique, and very YOU. When I see something at a store that I love, I always leave, and if I am thinking about it two or three days later, I go back, because it is love. Which one are you dreaming of the most?

As a random Australian reader who doesn’t know you in person, I vote dress #1. It’s a wonderful, elegant dress. Dress 2 seems to be a nice version of what most women wear on their day.
Vote dress 1!
Vote dress 1!
I picked my wedding dress cause I loved the colour (dark red) and the skirt was just the right length and knit fabric which had some give and movement. It twirled and swayed, but not too much. It also had a black fur collar on top which really suited a December wedding.

If your Mother is sewing the dress you want. Why not have the pouffy skirt and the sash of dress #2 with the big flower and strappy top of dress #1. From the photos in your post I can see them combining well that way. With the belt/ sash going over one shoulder maybe. In that case one shoulder could be bare, strapless. But, I don’t have the full picture of course.

I actually had a similar dilemma in choosing my wedding dress. I had a destination wedding so started out with a very simple white mermaid style dress with a little bit of ruffle. I ended up buying it and after trying it on some more I just knew that even though I was going to be in Jamaica, a simple wedding dress wasn’t going to do it. I ended up with an ivory drop waist beaded gown. Quite different but I was def. happy with my decision.
I knew that for myself, I would regret not wearing a “wedding” (pretty-poufy-princessy) wedding dress so I guess is that how you are going to feel?
Both are gorgeous btw. I love the jewels and the flowy-ness of the first one.

I love both dresses!
Number 2 is stunning!, number 1 is beautiful but its just not special enough.. Im looking for something like number 2 for myself, could you tell me the name of the dress or were its from please? or the designer?…
Good Luck and congratulations x
Yes! I think number 2 is amazing!! Actually I was wondering where you found this?? So # 1 can not even compare.
Wow! I am so happy to know there are other brides out there like me. I am having the SAME exact challenge and was hoping i could get your opinion. However, as for you – #2 is VERY BRIDAL yet different. My advice – buy #2 or have your mom make it, host a halloween or dress up party when you’re a newly wed and be juliet! It would be perfect and make you happy so you can wear both
wedding day , go with #2 – GOOD LUCK
oops – i meant to say, buy #1 as juliet. The other for your wedding
